Samsung announced the new Galaxy Chromebook 2 , a new member of the company’s range of OS-based notebooks Google Chrome OS . We remind you that the company has recently brought two models to Italy, the Chromebook 4 and the Chromebook 4 +.
The Galaxy Chromebook 2 is a convertible , and is the first to be equipped with a QLED panel , more precisely a solution from 13, 3 inch touch with resolution Full HD (product dimensions are 304, 9 x 203, 2 x 13, 9 mm , while the weight is 1, 23 kilograms ). Any Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) certified stylus can be used, available separately (no stylus is included in the package ). As for the platform, Samsung has selected an Intel Core i3 processor – 10110 U or a Celeron 5205 U , both with integrated UHD Graphics GPU.
The allocation of LPDDR3 memory can be 4 or 8 GB, while the storage of 64 or 128 GB , with further expansion guaranteed by a microSD slot. In terms of ports, there are two USB Type-C and a combo jack for headphone and microphone. The equipment is completed by the 1 megapixel HD webcam, two 5W stereo speakers with Smart AMP, Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, Bluetooth 5 and the keyboard with backlight. Finally, here is a battery from 45, 5 Wh .
At the moment we have no information on availability in Italy, but the base model with Celeron processor 5205 U, 4 GB of RAM and storage of 64 GB will be available in 550 dollars in the United States. For the most powerful version with Core i3 – 10110 U, 8 GB of RAM and storage of 128 GB the disbursement is 699 dollars. Two colors: red (Fiesta Red) and gray (Mercury Gray).
The new Galaxy Chromebook 2, compared to the previous version, does not represent a real leap forward but is in many ways a “downgrade” designed for a lower price range: the first model, sold starting from 999 dollars, in fact it counted a Core i5 CPU, screen of 13, 3 “4K and 16 GB of memory. Samsung, in short, must have become aware that a platform that is too powerful and a price close to 1000 dollars are not the winning formula if you want to find space in the Chromebook market. And it’s run for cover.
