It is Samsung the winner of the challenge between producers of smartphones with 5G technology support , a market still small in terms of overall volumes but which in perspective will experience strong expansion both in recent months of 2020 and next year.
Strategy Analytics, in its most recent analysis, highlights how the Korean company has garnered a market share of as much as 88% among companies that have sold smartphones with 5G support in Western European nations. This figure refers to the first half of the year, during which the Samsung Galaxy S 20 5G terminals were commercially available in addition to those A 90 5G with a more affordable cost.
The historical competition with Huawei , a company that is the victim of the decisions of the US administration that prevent it from being able to implement support for Google services in its most recent terminals. This generates in consumers, as a direct consequence, a disaffection from this brand which has recorded a strong negative impact on sales in the European regions.
Western European nations have collected sales of approximately 4 million smartphones with 5G support , a low value compared to the total market but still very interesting compared to the corresponding period of 2019 . The market share was approximately 7% in the reference period, against a value of less than 1% recorded in the first 6 months of 2019
However, Samsung’s position is bound to change due to the availability of smartphones iPhone 12 by Apple . The start of sales of these models will change relations in the 5G smartphone sector, together with the availability of models developed by Chinese companies such as Xiaomi and OPPO offered at increasingly accessible prices.
Just the availability of affordable 5G smartphones, together with the spread of networks by national carriers, will allow 5G technology to become more and more popular . This is the trend that we can expect for 2021, with a definitive adoption of 5G which will be adopted by an increasingly large percentage of users both in terms of smartphones and contracts with network operators.
