IBM

The services of IBM were chosen as the basis for the creation of the SDF Data Platform , the platform that will allow you to connect to the network and monitor the media produced by SDF , a company from Bergamo that owns, among others, the Lamborghini Tractors brand. Leading the development will be Cefriel , a spin-off of the Politecnico di Milano, which will use IBM Cloud and the platform IBM Watson IoT .

IBM chosen to develop the SDF Data Platform

The digital transformation underway is involving all sectors, including the more “traditional” ones such as agriculture. Being able to collect useful data from agricultural machinery can in fact allow, for example, a better maintenance and the identification of possible efficiency improvements. That’s why SDF, which is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of tractors and machinery for the agricultural sector, has decided to create the SDF Data Platform : an open ecosystem capable of collecting data from different sources to then make them available to customers.

The new production vehicles are natively equipped with the capacity to collect and send data, but it is also possible to purchase adapters to be applied to models already in circulation . It is also possible to also connect the tools and sensors present on the fields .

The information collected in this way is useful for having a clear picture of the operating status of the machines, the conditions in which they operate and for monitoring performance. You can also get to predictive maintenance : based on the data it is possible anticipate malfunctions and breakdowns , replacing problematic parts before an expensive (and annoying) downtime occurs.

The SDF Data Platform is open by nature and this allows to integrate SDF vehicles with other platforms , such as applications for digital farming ( digital farming in English).

“Thanks to the support of Cefriel and IBM cloud products” – underlines Massimo Ribaldone , SDF R&D Executive Director – ” we are working to create new digital services dedicated to the end customer, with a view to Smart Farming, Agriculture 4.0, Fleet Management and Predictive Maintenance. The goal is to combine our ‘core’ products, tractors and harvesting machines, with a set of integrated services and functions that allow us to improve the management and performance of our customers’ companies. “
