Seagate has developed two custom RISC-V cores for use in next-generation storage controllers , so they wouldn’t need to rely on third-party drivers and could integrate their drives much easier.
In this case, we find two types of cores , being one of high performance based on RISC-V architecture that is already manufactured and is probably in the testing phase, while the another, a core with area optimization, is already designed and is in the process of being manufactured.
These cores would offer up to 3 times higher performance for loads of hard disk work in real time, something important in an age when data movement has increased exponentially, although no exact performance figures have been disclosed with which to assess what drives equipped with Seagate’s new custom RISC-V core controllers may be capable of.
What I do know known is that they are hard disk controllers, so that, except for the appearance of a new announcement, the company’s SSD units will continue to have third-party controllers, something to be expected considering the higher figures that must be handled effectively.
