Security update: Attackers attack Microsoft's Edge web browser

Source: Heise.de added 27th Oct 2020

Microsoft’s developers have closed several security holes in the Edge web browser.

Anyone who surfs the Internet with Microsoft’s Edge web browser should quickly bring the browser up to date, as attackers are currently actively exploiting a security gap. The developers have closed five holes in total.

The exploited vulnerability (CVE- 2020 – 15999) relates to the FreeType program library. Much information about the vulnerability is currently not known. Attackers should be able to trigger memory errors. This usually leads to a DoS state, which causes an application to crash. However, the execution of malicious code is often also conceivable. The threat level is ” high “, writes Microsoft in the security center for Edge.

This also applies to three other gaps. The fifth vulnerability (CVE – 2020 – 16003) is classified with ” medium “. This can lead to a memory error when printing (use after free).

Edge and Chrome are both based on Chromium. On Edge the output is 86. 0. 622. 51 secured. The fixed Chrome issue 86. 0. 4240. 111 has already appeared.
