We recently wrote about the possibility that Sigma you start making lenses for Nikon Z cameras, but it wouldn’t end there! The Japanese manufacturer could also launch a new series of lenses for cameras Fujifilm X ! A novelty that would deny the declarations of the past months.
Sigma lenses for Fujifilm X?
As in case of Nikon Z, have a manufacturer like Sigma making optics for Fujifilm X would allow users to have more choice. Currently there is no precise information on the models that will be launched or on the precise timing, but something is moving.
In the 2019, Sigma had stated that they would not make optics for Fujifilm systems and the concept was also reiterated in February 2020. In the last few months, however, the surrounding conditions have changed with Fujifilm which has acquired greater market shares .
With the opening to sharing connection protocols it is now possible to create lenses with AF, as demonstrated by Tokina. Therefore two of the objections that had been raised in the past to achieve objectives for this ecosystem fall.
Sigma stated that some models may arrive in 2021 and a further anonymous source confirmed that indeed the debut could take place over the next year. As written above, we do not know which models will be used, what the costs will be and how the issue will actually evolve (with the unknown of the pandemic and the camera market). However, this is good news for all fans and photographers who use the mirrorless APS-C by Fujifilm : you just have to wait.
