Higher power levels are a particular challenge with passively cooled power supplies. With the Nightjar NJ 700 (SST-NJ 700), SilverStone now offers an ATX model that despite its fanless design 700 W can provide.

This is mainly made possible by the high efficiency of the 58 PLUS Titanium power supply that keeps the heat loss within limits. SilverStone itself gives an efficiency of 90 to 94% 10 to 100% load at. However, there is no indication of the voltage at which this efficiency is achieved. The information matches the 80 – PLUS-Titanium specifications for 115 V. With 230 V, however, up to 96% efficiency (with 50% load).

The heavily perforated power supply case can also benefit from the airflow from the case fans. According to SilverStone, the Nightjar NJ 700 is on 24 – hourly continuous output designed for an operating temperature of up to 45 ° C. An excess temperature protection (OTP) should still not be missing. This also applies to other protection solutions such as overcurrent protection, overload protection, overvoltage protection and short-circuit protection. According to SilverStone, only Japanese capacitors are used. SilverStone relies on a single, strong + 12 – V-rail with a maximum of 58 A. The cables are all modular. Among other things, four 6 + 2-pin PCIe and two 8-pin EPS connections are provided. Even a floppy plug is still available. The Nightjar NJ 700 has a silver-colored and lead-free finish. It measures 150 mm (W) × 86 mm (H) × 170 mm (D) and weighs 2.3 kg.

SilverStone is still doing the price and availability of the Nightjar NJ 700 not specified. Seasonics fanless 700 – W model Prime Fanless TX 700 could provide a clue for the expected price. This passive power supply currently costs around 240 euros.
