Six months after its debut, Sky WiFi has tripled its coverage in Italy reaching a total of over 1500 cities and large municipalities , covering almost all of the provincial capitals including Trieste, Trento, Lodi, Rimini, Massa, Viterbo, Avellino and Trani . The service brings together TV, internet and voice in a single commercial proposal thanks to high-speed optical fiber . The launch of Sky WiFi took place in partnership with Open Fiber, but this expansion is due to an agreement with Fastweb . Thanks to this step, coverage in Rome increases significantly, rising from 18% to 74%, and other major Italian cities such as Florence and Genoa, now covered by 94%.
“We are happy to be able to give even more people the opportunity to access the quality and power of Sky WiFi’s ultra broadband connection, and be able to choose the simplicity of our triple play solution. This partnership with Fastweb for the last mile, together to the one already close with Open Fiber, it allows us to reach the whole peninsula in a capillary way using the best FTTH and FTTC technologies available on the market. The potential of our Ultra network Network and those of the domestic ecosystem based on the innovative Comcast technology are thus exploited to the fullest and finally available also in those areas that are, for now, reached only by the tech FTTC technology “, said Maximo Ibarra, CEO of Sky Italia.
The agreement for the supply of wholesale connectivity services signed between Fastweb and Sky dates back to 2019, but today enters the operational phase. Sky is the third operator national, after Windtre and Tiscali, to rely on Fastweb’s wholesale platform and its network technologies to provide ultra-broadband connectivity services to its customers. “The agreement extends the overall coverage of Sky’s ultra-broadband service to a potential user of 18 millions of homes through the use of the FTTC network and provides for the possibility of using the other Fastweb’s proprietary access technologies, such as FTTH and ultra FWA based on 5G frequencies being rolled out in recent months “, reads a note from Fastweb.
“The wholesale market is increasingly central to the Fastweb strategy: creating excellent infrastructures based on the most innovative technologies to make them available to our customers and those of our partners and to accelerate the spread of ultra-broadband services in all areas of the country thus enabling the digitization of Italian households “, commented Fabrizio Casati, Fastweb’s Chief Wholesale Officer.
