Smartphone batteries are getting bigger and bigger – From 4000 to 4500mAh in a year
Source: Tweakers.net added 16th Nov 2020Just a question: when is a smartphone battery large? And then, of course, it is about capacity, not physical size. Would you describe a 3800 mAh battery as big? Or a 4000 mAh battery? Or do you only speak of a large battery when it comes to 4500 or 5000 mAh? The answer to that question is trickier than you might think at first glance, mainly because it depends on when a phone comes out. An iPhone 6 had in 2014 really no bizarre small battery, but about the same capacity in 2020 with the iPhone SE 2020 almost laughably small.
Last year we mapped out the average battery capacity for the first time in new smartphones over the past few years, how this relates to the volume of smartphones and whether the greater battery capacity has also led to a longer battery life. That was at the end of last year; a lot has happened in the meantime, so it is time to look at how things are now. Is the average battery capacity still growing so fast?
A phone with an average battery for that time of 3500 mAh, but which phone is it?
