Solid Cooper Maker Block Case: Complete copper case for the Raspberry Pi 4
Source: Hardware Luxx added 28th Nov 2020Cases for the Raspberry Pi 4 are a dime a dozen and in all sizes, shapes, colors and materials. From simple injection molded plastic housings to aluminum variants to 3D-printed models. Desalvo Systems has now presented a full copper version of the Maker Block Case. This is compatible with all models of the Raspberry Pi 4B.
The housing measures 75 x 100 x 33 mm and weighs, believe it or not, 785 g – without the Raspberry Pi. Together with the mini-board it is about 830 g. The housing is made in a CNC mill from a block of C 110 copper. To prove the cooling performance, Desalvo Systems offers a measurement report showing a Raspberry Pi 4 with four cores for 30 minutes under full load. The cores were overclocked to 2. 100 MHz and should be able to keep this clock over the entire time. The temperatures should only have exceeded a value of 50 ° C at the end. Desalvo Systems wants to show that active cooling is not absolutely necessary.
In addition to the SoC, some other components are connected directly to the cooler using thermal paste. This should ensure the passive cooling of the Raspberry Pi 4.
Of course, the housing contains all the necessary openings for the connections of the Raspberry Pi. In addition, there are 33 openings with “M4 x 0.7” thread, which can either be used to attach accessories or for cooling. Ten more holes have a diameter of 4.2 mm.
Of course, the fun is not cheap. The material value of the copper alone should not be insignificant for almost 800 g. Desalvo Systems charges 249, 95 US dollars for the Solid Cooper Maker Block Case. A Raspberry Pi 4 Model B with 8 GB of RAM costs around 75 Euro.
