After all, the year 2020 was a positive year for the video game industry. The coronavirus pandemic left gamers spending more time at home, which also led to more games being purchased. Few, however, could have predicted that this year’s holidays the Steam platform would be so popular. The number of players logged into the Valve platform this Christmas not only broke the record of previous years, but also brought about one of the largest numbers of players in the history of this platform. According to the collected data, 25 December at 16: 00 Polish time, on Steam almost “sat” 23 millions of people, i.e. eight million more than last year at the peak of Christmas. The following days of this year’s holiday season brought even higher numbers.

The number of players logged on to Steam this Christmas not only broke the record of previous years, but also brought one of the largest numbers of players in the history of this platform. It reached almost 25 million.

Best Selling Games PC in 2020 on Steam – Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2 on top

Namely 26 and 27 December 2020 there were almost 25 million players on Steam. It turns out that also on Christmas Eve, not much less people sat at the desk instead of going to the table. This number was largely influenced by recent game releases, including Cyberpunk 2077. Where do you get that confidence? If only because the Valve platform just around the premiere of this game recorded a record of actively playing people, amounting to 24, 5 million. We are still waiting for the magic number of 26 million to be reached.

Steam Winter Sale 2020 has started – Christmas promotions for PC games. There are also sales in Ubisoft and EA Origin stores

According to industry observers, this has a chance to happen next weekend, which follows the New Year. A lot of free time, pandemic restrictions and popular games will undoubtedly contribute to another increase in the number of players. Unfortunately, this leads to a rather sad conclusion. Although, of course, not the whole world is celebrating Christmas, it seems that many Christians this year over the table on Christmas Eve and meeting with the family chose entertainment. There is also a sad chance that they were simply alone this Christmas.
