After Netflix recently banned its free trial month from its offer, there is information about a new method to attract new users. COO Greg Peters confirmed that a promo event in the form of a free streaming weekend is planned. All free access to the streaming platform would be made possible for a period of 48 hours . The first test run is to start in India. Some time ago, the XDA Developers sniffer dog Mishaal Rahman found evidence of a “Streamfest” in the code of the Netflix Android app.

The event should be advertised aggressively in advance so that as many people as possible take the opportunity and, in the best case, take out a subscription. The event should be available on any device that can normally be used to watch Netflix. After a successful test, the free “Streamfest” should also become a model for other countries, including Germany.

The announcement took place together with the presentation of the new quarterly figures for the third quarter 2020. At the event it was announced that 2020 had been the most successful year for the streaming service so far and now they are aiming for the 200 million user mark by the end of the fourth quarter. Netflix is currently missing around 6 million new users. It remains to be seen if Netflix will hit that number. Since many people share an account, the actual number of users should already be well over 200 millions, but not the official account number that will benefit the company’s earnings.
