The identity management company Auth0 has announced the results of its survey entitled “How Development Teams Purchase SaaS”. The survey essentially reveals two central developments: Companies that want to buy SaaS (Software as a Service) components rely heavily on the opinion of their development teams. As a result, more innovative strength and productivity can be observed.

The anonymized and in cooperation Online survey conducted with the US private equity firm Bessemer Venture Partners was aimed at 352 decision-makers worldwide, whereby 64 percent from North America, 20 percent from Europe, 15 percent came from the Asia-Pacific economic region and one percent came from South America. It was carried out in September and October 2020.

More than half of the respondents who introduced new features once a month or more often used SaaS components. In contrast, 80 percent of those surveyed stated that they did not use SaaS components if they had twelve months to introduce functions.

The most frequent reasons given for using SaaS components were time savings and agility. Followed by “extended functionality” and “use of technical expertise”. The application components that were named as “difficult to create” were in this order: payment processing, authentication, data management and storage. Of the respondents who use a SaaS platform for authentication, 83 percent stated an improved time-to-market. 58 Percent of respondents forecast that their companies will increase investment in third-party SaaS services over the next year.
