Quasi-parallel rays of light and a diffuse blue background are the secrets behind natural sunlight. The Youtubers from DIY Perks show in a video how to build an “artificial window” with an extremely natural-looking light incidence: The main components are a large, disused satellite reflector, a powerful LED with water cooling and a flat glass cuvette with soapy water.

DIY Perks: Building an artificial sun that looks unbelievably realistic

A high-performance LED in the focal point of the parabolic mirror supplies the parallel rays of light, which experience the same wavelength-dependent refraction of light in the bluish shimmering soapy water as in the atmosphere. The result is simply impressive – not only photographers will appreciate the artificial sun, but also souls clouded by the dark season.

The DIY perks video also provides instructions for smaller photo projects how to get artificial sunlight from a self-made light box with a Fresnel lens. Worth seeing! (cm)
