Without too many surprises, Nintendo was forced to postpone the inauguration of his amusement park due to the current health emergency. The announcement was released by the same Universal Studios Japan , targeting people who were not looking forward to set foot in the colorful theme park inspired by the titles of Mario and his companions.
Nintendo vs. COVID – 19: opening of the Osaka park postponed
As announced last December, Super Nintendo World was supposed to open its doors on February 4th. With the grand opening, Japanese visitors would experience Osaka park’s first attractions, including Mario Kart Koopa’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, and colossal Bowser Castle. Unfortunately there is bad news.
Last January 13 Osaka Prefecture promulgated the state of emergency , which will remain in force until 7 February 2021. This forced Universal to move the inauguration to a date to be defined , releasing an official press release via the website dedicated to the park: “Super Nintendo World grand opening date will be announced again after Osaka Prefecture’s declaration of emergency is lifted “.
As Reuters reports, Japan is facing a third wave of infections , with rather worrying numbers. It seems that Osaka is one of the most affected areas, hence the decision of Universal Studios of Japan to postpone the opening of the park.
