Until February 8th 2021 the Developer Economics Survey of the analysis provider SlashData is running. The semi-annual survey is aimed at professional software developers, hobby programmers and computer science students. According to the organizer, it makes no difference whether you work for desktop, web, mobile, cloud, games, IoT, augmented and virtual reality, machine learning or data science. Front-end and back-end developers and all-rounders can participate.

What do developers need in the pandemic? The current issue focuses in particular on the developer needs in the pandemic. The aim is to take stock of software development worldwide and to provide a practical preview of how the ecosystem will develop for developers 2021 and beyond. The survey records the (professional) skills, preferred programming languages, tools, platforms and technologies used. The evaluation is automatically available to the survey participants afterwards.

All participants receive a “virtual goodie bag” and the evaluation of the survey results. For every completed questionnaire, a small donation goes to the “Black Girls Code” initiative to promote diversity in the IT sector. There are obviously developer-related prizes such as laptops to be won: Everyone who took part will take part in the raffle.

Participation in the survey According to the provider, around 30. 000 Developers from 165 countries, the results of the last survey are available for viewing. The questionnaires are available in several languages ​​such as English, Chinese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Japanese and Korean (a German version is not available).
