Synology now has RackStations RS 1221 + and RS 1221 RP + presented to the public. The 2U rack storage servers have a total of eight slots and, according to the manufacturer, were developed for smaller companies.

The RS 1221 + and RS 1221 RP + are the first RackStation models according to Synology, equipped with the AMD Ryzen-V 1500 B processors (2.2 GHz). A total of 4 GB of DDR4 memory is used. This can also be expanded to up to 32 GB. The maximum size of a volume must not exceed 108 TB. The total dimensions are 88 mm x 482 mm x 306, 6 mm or 88 mm x 482 mm x 407, 5 mm (H x W x D). In addition to two USB 3.2 Gen1 connections, an eSATA interface is also available on external ports. There are also four 1 GbE connection options on both storage servers. Two 80 mm large fans ensure sufficient cooling. The weight of the RS 1221 + is 6.9 kg, whereas the RS 1221 RP + comes to 8.4 kg.

For rack installation, the RS supports 1221 + in addition to 2-post racks (19 inch / direct mounting) also 4-post racks (19 inch). The RS 1221 RP +, however, only supports mounting in 4-post racks (19 inches ). The PCIe 3.0 slot enables an upgrade to a – GbE compatible network card as well as to NVMe cache using Synology M.2 adapter cards or Synology SSDs of the SVN 3000 series. In addition, with the help of an RX 418 – expansion unit and corresponding compatible drives, the servers can be upgraded to up to 12 slots can be expanded. In addition, the 3-year limited warranty can be extended to 5 years.

The RS 1221 + and the RS 1221 RP + are available from Synology Resellers starting today. Currently there is an RS 1221 RP + in the Conrad online shop for around 1 250 Euro with a delivery time of ten to thirteen days.
