T-Mobile , one of the world’s leading telephone operators, has announced a five-year agreement with Ericsson to to expand and enhance its US 5G network . Ericsson will provide equipment, software and services. The American 5G market is strategic and is growing fast: it is estimated that by the end of the year 5G will represent 4% of mobile subscriptions, a percentage that will increase until it reaches 80% by 2026.
T-Mobile focuses on Ericsson technology for 5G in the USA
T-Mobile plans to expand its US 5G network, aimed at both increasing coverage and enhancing the service, also enabling new usage scenarios. To achieve the goal, the operator has chosen Ericsson , signing a 5-year contract which provides the supply of equipment, software and all related services. Ericsson will therefore supply the antennas, active and passive, both for the low band (which guarantees a wide coverage) and for the medium and high band, the only frequencies that guarantee the maximum performance of 5G, in terms of latency and transfer speed. . The implementation of the 5G network for T-Mobile also includes 5G Standalone (SA) architecture, Voice over New Radio (VoNR), New Radio (NR) carrier aggregation, network slicing and Massive multi-user MIMO .
“ This agreement builds on our 20-year relationship with Ericsson to build, expand and further improve the T-Mobile network in the 5G era, enabling us to deliver more 5G coverage, speed and capacity to more people across the country ”, commented Neville Ray, President of Technology of T- Mobile.
“ We are proud to extend our partnership with T-Mobile, accelerating further the evolution of 5G in the United States. Ericsson’s industry-leading Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio enables T-Mobile to enhance their 5G network while working on midband spectrum ”, stated Niklas Heuveldop, President of Ericsson North America .
