Should it be cheap and still be able to do as much as possible? We explain what smartphones are up to 93 Offer euros – and what not.
Update from 12. December 2020
One thing should be clear if you have a smartphone up to 93 Euro searches: Neither hardware nor software are mostly up to date and / or particularly strong. Nevertheless, there are models today that master all the essential functions of a smartphone and can be operated reasonably properly without the device ending up in the trash after a few days in frustration. We show what users should pay attention to.
Operating system Even cheap smartphones need a decent operating system. This is made possible by many smartphones in the lowest price range, Android Go, which was specially developed for very cheap hardware. Go versions of Android already run with 512 MByte RAM, even if only special, slimmed-down apps work properly. However, users can usually exchange them for the normal versions from the Play Store – even if there is usually no smooth operation with so extremely little memory and usually weak processors.
Storage It has already been indicated : Cheap smartphones often only offer a small amount of memory. This affects the RAM, the small size of which is at least compensated in some areas by Android Go, but also the mass storage. Particularly inexpensive models only have 4 or 8 GB of internal memory, which fortunately can be expanded in most cases using a micro SD memory card. So at least the storage space is not a big problem, but we still recommend models with at least 16 GByte internal memory and 2 GByte RAM – both is up to 93 Euro also available in current models.
Chip Chipsets in the lower price category usually come with few CPU cores and a weak graphics unit. While octa-cores have long been normal in higher-priced models, smartphones up to 100 Euro more quad cores can be found. The chips usually do not come from brand manufacturers such as Qualcomm, but from cheaper providers such as Mediatek or Unisoc (formerly Spreadtrum). This sometimes has disadvantages in terms of power consumption and update capability of the operating system.
Software / Updates For updates, the chip manufacturers must provide the smartphone manufacturers with devices and Google code. While Qualcomm still does this quite reliably, things often look different with cheaper providers. For this reason, Android version upgrades are normally not to be expected with particularly cheap smartphones. This is particularly unfortunate as many smartphones are under 90 Euro with Android 9 (or older). Updates on Android 10 are normally not to be expected, but there are more and more exceptions, accordingly is also Android 09 for under 100 euros. Since we focus on current models 2020, even the majority of Android offers 10 at.
The display resolution for smartphones is below 100 Euro neist at 720 p or below. Lower than 720 p does not have to be more. Screen Cheap smartphones have cheap displays. What sounds like a truism is not only noticeable in the low resolution and often also a smaller diagonal, but also in the brightness, color rendering and the dependence on the viewing angle. But here, too, the following applies: The market is changing, every now and then even the first models with FHD + resolution for under 122 euros. We recommend a resolution of at least 720 p (1280 × 720 pixels or higher).
Camera Even very cheap smartphones have cameras – but they are more nice to look at on the data sheet than to be used for good photos. Megapixel number, number of cameras, pixel size, aperture – all these are points at which smartphones for under 100 euros is saved. Even in daylight, therefore, only a mediocre image quality can be expected. Cameras should therefore not be a purchase criterion for cheap smartphones – even if the manufacturers themselves sometimes advertise triple cams in this price range.
Battery pack Sounds strange, but it is like this: When it comes to batteries, cheap smartphones sometimes even have compared to significantly more expensive models an advantage. Because they can be exchanged in a few simple steps. While modern, more expensive smartphones have built-in power dispensers in glued housings, the housings of very cheap smartphones can still be opened mostly without tools and the user can then simply replace the battery. Here, too, a slow change towards permanently installed batteries can be observed. In the meantime, the predominant rule is: The battery is permanently installed. We have summarized other models with exchangeable batteries in the article: Smartphones with Android 9 and exchangeable batteries.
In cheap models, the battery can often be replaced without tools Others Even cheap smartphones today offer a lot of what models for 1000 Euros can – mostly only in a very slimmed-down form. This is how smartphones connect for 45 Euro with the WLAN, but not with 5, but only with 2.4 GHz and certainly not via Wifi 6. GPS is also supported, but other positioning networks such as GLONASS or Galileo are often not. LTE is also often available, but mostly with comparatively low transmission speeds. The examples mentioned can be applied to almost all features of a particularly cheap smartphone.
To 50 Euro Under 50 Euro there are no current smartphones that are recommended. Of course, you can also use older models if necessary , after all is a cheap smartphone still better than none . However, we would only advise you to do this in an extreme emergency and if the budget is absolutely no longer acceptable. In addition to the low display resolution and weak processor, the main reason is the 1 GByte to small ar secondary storage of such models. Hardly any user has long fun with it.
To 75 Euro In December 2020 we see until 70 Euro only two recommended smartphones: The TP-Link Neffos A5 and the ZTE Blade A3 (2020) – all other current smartphones also offer a resolution well below 720 p for unreasonably blurred displays.
ZTE Blade A3 (2020) Not even 65 Euro is the price of the ZTE model at the time of writing, that’s not a lot of money for a smartphone. In return, buyers receive a nearly 5.5 inch LCD with 1440 × 720 pixels, that is enough for an acceptable image sharpness of almost 300 pixels per inch. You shouldn’t expect anything from the cameras, luckily the manufacturers of both models listed here try with their simple main k ameras with 5 – and the simple front cameras with 2 Megapixels not even to promise more – commendable!
As drive serves a quad-core chipset from Unisoc (formerly Spreadtrum ), which is flanked by only 1 GB of RAM – miracles in usability should I n do not expect interested parties here, even if Android 9 is used in the Go version comes . The inexpensive model for the internal memory offers a little surprise, with 32 GB is quite large. It can of course also be expanded. USB C does not yet exist in this model; instead, buyers have to make do with the older standard Micro-USB.
TP- Link Neffos A5 The TP-Link smartphone offers for just under 70 Euro an almost 6 inch screen with also 1440 × 720 pixels and almost the same rest of the equipment. The differences here are a slightly different chipset from Unisoc , half of the internal memory, but instead a slightly stronger battery. Attention: The model does not support LTE!
To 100 Euro Between 75 and 100 There are a total of nine recommendable models, of which we would like to highlight three, the are best in our opinion. The first model offers the highest computing power, the second the largest internal memory and the third model is toughest . All models are at least 720 p and 2 GByte RAM, almost all of them already have Android 10.
Oppo A 12 The Oppo A 12 offers the fastest Octa – Core in the field that Mediatek Helio P 35 clocks up to 2.3 GHz and is supported by 3 GByte RAM under . The 6.2-inch HD display offers a drop – N otch and Gorilla glass 3, overall the smartphone looks quite modern. The camera offers 13 Megapixels, a depth sensor another 2 megapixels. Find data in 22 GByte large and expandable memory space. A battery with 4230 mAh ensures a lot of stamina. Biggest drawback: So far there is only Android 9 for the model.
Honor 9A This is different with the Honor 9A, Android is already here 10 in front. The display is slightly larger at 6.3 inches and also has a drop notch. Here, too, the main camera offers 13 Megapixels, added but not t only a depth sensor, but also a wide angle with 5 megapixels. The built-in Helio P 22 also has eight CPU cores, but is something weaker than the chipset in the Oppo A 12 – you shouldn’t expect much in this price range anyway. The main memory is also 3 GB in size. The highlight is the internal memory, the 64 Gbytes of data and is expandable. The battery also has a strong 5 00 0 mAh .
Ulefone Armor X7 At Ulefone Armor X7 is the name program: the entry-level smartphone boasts of outdoor qualities! Accordingly, the model is IP 65 – and even after MILD-STD 810 G certified – for under 100 Euro! The display is comparatively small with 5 inch l with HD resolution, without the device itself being much handier than the aforementioned. The reason is the thick, protective frame around it. The single camera with 13 Megapixel also shows where the Development costs have flowed: In Toughness instead of coolness.
The built-in Quad-Core is one of the weakest representatives in this round, but it is flanked by 4 GB of RAM. 32 GB of internal memory and a battery with 4000 mAh complete the picture.
Here we have all suitable smartphones from the price range 75 to 100 Euro at a glance:
Conclusion Yes, there are usable smartphones up to 100 euros, provided that users make slight cuts in can do the points mentioned at the beginning. It is noticeable on smartphones up to 100 euros that mainly Chinese manufacturers are represented, which are hardly noticed in this country. Although there are basically well-known brands such as LG, Huawei, Nokia and Wiko in this price range, they usually offer a worse price-performance ratio and therefore do not appear in our guide.
For round 50 More euros interested parties will of course get even better technology, it is worth taking a look at our list of the best: Top – 10 of the smartphones to 200 Euro. In another list we have summarized the best smartphones with Android One. If you want to be in the picture, take a look at our list of the best: The 10 best camera Smartphones.
