Elon Musk could be defined by some as an enlightened entrepreneur, by others as a furious madman: he is a bit of both. These two souls allow the owner of SpaceX and Tesla to set up successful business but also dabble with less conventional ideas : think for example when he put a flamethrower up for sale through The Boring Company or the Tesla-branded surfboard from a few years ago.

Well, between a new machine and a space launch, Musk and Tesla decided to present a tequila . Sold in an iconic lightning bolt bottle (to remind us that Tesla makes electric cars) with a price of 250 dollars (here the official website), the distillate has already sold like hot cakes (the sale is only expected in the United States, where shipping of alcohol by mail is allowed) and will be delivered by the end of the year, so that buyers can taste it during the Christmas holidays.

But why Did Musk and Tesla decide to sell tequila? Everything started as usual from a joke made on April 1st 2018 , in an April Fool’s Day series via Twitter about Tesla’s possible bankruptcy. In those tweets Musk said he was found unconscious next to a Tesla Model 3 surrounded by bottles of “Teslaquila” and holding a sign in his hand that read “bankruptcy”.

L he idea of ​​the Teslaquila must have fascinated him a lot, because he later returned to refer to it and register the trademark. After more than two years, from the joke it passed to the facts , presenting the Tesla Tequila in collaboration with the alcohol brand Nosotros and distributor Speakeasy.

Alcohol is described as “ an exclusive tequila añejo 100% obtained from premium agave in small batches based on high mountain and lowland agave from sustainable sources. Aged for 15 months in French oak barrels and in a hand-blown glass bottle, Tesla Tequila features notes of fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and pepper ” .
