The Sistine Chapel is an undisputed and indisputable masterpiece of art. Being able to admire it in first person is a unique experience as unique is the experience that Callaway wants to give to those who buy the photo book (divided in three volumes) with an extraordinary price of 22 thousand dollars currently in pre-order . Here are the characteristics of this unique work.

The photo book of the Sistine Chapel

How it can cost 22 thousand dollars a photo book , as far as a work such as Sistine Chapel which is known and appreciated all over the world? First of all, the project lasted five years to be able to obtain a result equal to the beauty of the work to be portrayed. But that’s not all.

Callaway collaborated directly with the Vatican Museums and with Scripta Maneant (well-known publisher of Bologna). High resolution cameras were used to be able to capture details usually invisible to the visitor.

The three volumes enclose 822 pages with dimensions of 61 x 43 cm and it was aimed at maximum color accuracy (accuracy of 99, 4%) and print fidelity. This is to be able to give the buyer the impression of being able to touch the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel . The paper chosen is also of great quality: Fedrigoni Symbol Tatami.

The binding of the volumes was done by hand (bodonian binding in silk) while the covers are made of white calfskin with engravings in silver, gold and platinum to distinguish the three volumes.

In the pages, the lucky owner will be able to scroll 270 thousand digital images collected in 67 nights during the closing of the chapel to the public. And to collect the photographs from particular locations, supports up to 10 were used meters.

Not just images! Because in the pages we also find some descriptions made by Antonio Paolucci (Director of the Vatican Museums) which further immerse the reader in the extraordinary spectacle of the Sistine Chapel .

To contribute to the high price there is also the choice of having a limited edition of only 1999 copies (600 available in English). Furthermore, according to Callaway’s words, there will be no reprints in the future making the photo book even more rare.

Each volume weighs a little more of 11 kg while the total weight is 34 kg (luckily the price also includes shipping costs). Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Vatican Museums for the conservation of the works.
