Various rumors are focused on the next development of the family of NVIDIA Ampere architecture-based video cards: here are our predictions

NVIDIA GeForce RTX Ampere

Does not pass week, but we could say day, without new rumors emerging online about next generations of NVIDIA video cards of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX family . We are not talking about new architecture, as for that it will be necessary to wait a long time, as for new versions of high-end cards destined to support the GeForce RTX models 3090, GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3070 now on the market.

There are two acronyms that emerge, characterizing the products expected for the next months: Ti and SUPER . The first has already been used by NVIDIA with the latest addition to the family, the GeForce RTX card 3060 Ti, and it is expected that the company can support you GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and GeForce RTX models You with which to slightly push up the specifications in terms of clock and number of CUDA Cores. More than this, however, Ti cards could introduce different amounts of video memory so as to be better positioned than the competition : we are therefore talking about 20 GB for the GeForce RTX card 3080 Ti e 16 GB for that GeForce RTX 3070 Ti, at least according to our estimates.

Cards of this type will debut only when it is possible to have sufficient quantities of GDDR6X memory , a new generation standard that is was initially made accessible in small volumes and which contributed to the limited availability of GeForce RTX cards 3000. When is their debut? Possible by the end of the first quarter 2021, but a lot will depend on the market scenario.

For the SUPER range it seems logical to expect a debut about 1 year after the presentation of the first GeForce RTX cards 3000; will therefore be the summer, or the month of September , the period in which NVIDIA may review their family of cards presenting the SUPER declinations with increases in clock frequencies and slight increases in the number of CUDA cores.

Those few who managed to buy one of the GeForce RTX cards

in recent months have to complain, imagining that newcomers are able to provide much higher performance than their most recent purchase ? In our opinion, the answer is no, as the technological evolution made possible with Ti and SUPER cards will be contained overall . It will presumably affect more clearly the amount of video memory, expected to increase compared to the cards now on the market: this could give direct benefits to the highest resolutions, 4K above all, with the most demanding titles on the market.

But before talking about Ti and SUPER cards, it is essential that the market situation stabilizes , with GeForce RTX cards 3000 (but the same goes for AMD’s rival products of the Radeon RX 6800) that can be purchased in adequate volumes and in price lists aligned with the official ones.
