The interactive site to see the photos captured by the Canon CE-SAT-1 satellite
Source: HW Upgrade added 18th Jan 2021In the past we have written about some satellites that Canon launched into Space equipped with cameras of type consumer . Thanks to an interactive site, the Japanese manufacturer makes available to users some beautiful images taken from about 500 km of altitude thanks to CE-SAT-1 . This model is not particularly recent as it has been in orbit since 2017, but it allows us to understand the capabilities of a EOS 5D Mark III and one PowerShot S 110 .

The Canon CE-SAT-1 satellite is not to be confused with those more recent ones, which have been launched or have been part of a failed launch. This model is however based on similar technology and adopts rather common solutions. We are far from more sophisticated, expensive (and secretive) satellites. It is a way to diversify your market commitment and do research. For example, it can monitor various types of data ranging from pollution to fires.

As written above, inside we find a EOS 5D Mark III coupled to a telescope with Cassegrain structure with focal length of 3720 mm for enlargements, while the PowerShot S 110 is used for wide angle photographs. The images captured by the first cover an area of 4.8 x 3.2 km with a ground resolution of just under 1 meter.
Among the possibilities offered by the site (linked at the beginning) there is also that of seeing Venice from above. Other areas filmed include the mountains of Alaska, the area where the Burning Man event is held (Black Rock City), San José, New York, the Bahamas, Antarctica, Dubai and Japan. Users have some margin of freedom being able to zoom in on certain areas and save the shot. To add an extra touch of Space, there is also the narration of Marsha Sue Ivins , NASA astronaut who flew five times on the Space Shuttle.
