The new standard UFS 3.0 for memory cards of the JEDEC will allow reaching 1.2 GB / s
Source: Geeknetic added 13th Dec 2020The JEDEC, the organization in charge of defining different standards related to storage and memory in the technology market, has published the UFS Removable Card 3.0 standard, a removable memory card format that allows you to take advantage of the high speeds of the UFS 3.0 standard, used up to now in embedded storage chips in devices such as high-end smartphones.
The new memory cards UFS 3.0 memory can reach up to 1.2 GB / s speed
Using the JESD standard 220 – 2B, compatible cards will be able to reach speeds of up to 1.2 GB / s, double that of the previous version that remained in 600 MB / s like these Samsung models.
Some of the potential use cases for this technology are in Smartphones, obviously, but also in video camera systems, even in recordings s with multiple cameras, or even navigation systems or autonomous vehicle navigation. At the moment this format is far from overshadowing the much more popular microSD format, but there is no doubt that achieving these speeds above 1 GB / s in such a small card format opens up new possibilities for devices that require it.
The specification document for Universal Flash Storage Card Extension Version 3.0 is available on the JEDEC website, although it is necessary to access it disburse 76 Dollars
