Practically by surprise , Raspberry has released a new “miniPC” in card format, the Raspberry Pi Pico . This time it is a considerably smaller model than the conventional Raspberry Pi like the Pi 4 and that, in addition to costing only 4 Dollars, is the first to integrate an SoC developed by the company itself, the RP 2040 .

Based on two Cortex-M0 cores, the RP 2040 is Raspberry’s first proprietary SOC

The RP 2040 is an SoC made up of two cores Cortex-M0 + of ARM running at 133 MHz with 264 KB of RAM memory. Integrates its own DMA controller, GPIO connectivity of 21 pins, 16 PWM channels and a USB 1.1 controller. Supports up to 16 MB of FLASH memory through its QSPI bus

All this is integrated into the PCB of the Raspberry Pi Pico that provides it with 2 MB of Flash memory and a voltage regulator q EU supports voltages from 1.8 to 5.5 v to be able to power it via USB or even batteries. It also has a button that puts the board in mode to USB storage to transfer data directly.

In addition to on the Raspberry Pi Pico, the RP 2040 will also be integrated into other boards such as the Arduino Nano RP 2040 or the ItsyBitsy RP 2040 from Adafruit among many others.
