Many fans of new technologies laugh at Intel, which has long struggled with the complete transition in its lithography processors 14 nm to promised thunder 10 nm. Especially when AMD in the Ryzen family already uses the 7nm production process from TSMC. Of course, these figures cannot be compared 1 to 1 between different manufacturers, but Americans have long promised golden mountains that are still not there. However, it seems that there is room for a much older lithography on the market, that is 28 nm. TSMC records a record high number of orders in the production process in question, which are to use almost all the processing capacity in the fourth quarter 2020 of the year.

Although lithography 28 nm made its debut on the market in 2011 of the year, there are still many companies willing to do so. Russia reportedly placed a large order in connection with state-owned computers based on proprietary Elbrus-8SM chips.

TSMC processing capacity at 5 nm is fully reserved

The economic war between the US and China is in full swing, probably the Chinese giant Huawei, whose smartphones were first deprived of Google services, was most severely affected by it, and then the company was cut off from the supply of systems SoC. All because of the US administration, which introduced regulations to prevent the use of their latest technologies in foreign lands, but not only the Chinese suffered, but also TSMC, which thus lost an abundance of orders. In this madness, many manufacturers flit over. on the still available, much older lithographs. Taiwan DigiTimes editorial team says TSMC has recorded record-high interest in lithography 28 nm. We are talking about such a large number of applicants that in the fourth quarter 2020 of the year almost all production lines for this process will be occupied.

NVIDIA can refresh GeForce RTX graphics cards 3000 at 7 nm

Interestingly, DigiTimes claims that one of the companies that orders a lot in 28 nanometers is … American Qualcomm! There are also voices that Russia is another major client. All thanks to computers for Russian Railway Lines, the Ministry of Industry, and educational institutions and offices. The Russians rely on machines based on their own Elbrus-8SM processor designed in 28 nm, but they do not have such production lines. Well, there’s no wonder there is a growing interest. Apart from the US-China war, lithography 28 nm is one of the most profitable, especially since it debuted on the market in 2011 year and has been refined almost to perfection since then. And where performance takes a back seat, price always comes first.
