The 2020 closed, for the television manufacturers , with a slight decrease in sales volumes compared to the previous year: -0.3%, for a total of 217 million pieces sold . This result has been achieved with a very particular market dynamic, with the global pandemic that has pushed consumers to purchase new televisions in light of the long time spent inside the home.
The final demand was directed towards a positive value in annual sales but problems related to the procurement of components during the fourth quarter 2020 forced to review the sales plans and generate a slightly negative final result.
The outlook for the 2021 however remains very solid , with two sporting events that should help push users towards buying a new TV. Let’s talk about the Tokyo Olympics and the European football , events originally planned for 2020 and which have been postponed to 2021 precisely because of the pandemic.
The market dynamics will therefore be positive according to the estimates made by Trendforce : sales will touch 223 million TVs in 2021 , for an increase of 2.8% compared to the year just ended.
During the 2020 yes there was an average increase in prices, generated both by market demand and by problems linked to production. For this reason, users are progressively moving towards larger and larger screens, offered at prices not very far from those of smaller TVs. From this the estimate of a potential growth in market volumes for 2021 of 30% compared to last year, for TVs with a 65 inches or more , which will fill the expected decline for lower diagonal TVs whose price lists are no longer so far from those of the larger models.
