The development team responsible for the source code editor at Microsoft has version 1. 52 of Visual Studio Code released. In addition to some changes to the workbench, the November update brings new features to the diff editor and the ability to assign several shortcuts to a command using a new button.

News for the editors The latest monthly update of the sourcode editor. brings among other things news for the editor. Both the side-by-side and the inline view of the Diff editor now support a line break – even for Markdown files, which are provided with a line break by default. If the diff editor should never or always break lines, this can be done via diffEditor.wordWrap with configure on or off . The standard configuration is inherit , which ensures that the diff editor adopts the settings for the break from the editor.

In addition, the VS Code development team is revising the keyboard shortcut editor with the current version. This gives developers the ability to configure key combinations for a command from the Command palette using the button Configure Keybinding . Multiple key combinations can now be added to a command in the shortcut editor.

Extension Bisect The development team adds a new function to search for bugs in extensions to Visual Studio Code: Extension Bisect. Until now, developers had to deactivate all extensions in search of bugs and then reactivate them one after the other. The Bisect extension is intended to simplify this process.

The approach uses a binary search algorithm to identify an extension that Causing problems. Essentially, the new feature disables half of the extensions and asks users to search this list for the problem. If the problem disappears, the faulty extension must have been in the list of deactivated extensions, not in the list of currently activated extensions. This process is repeated until there is only one extension left.

More commands for Git Visual Studio Code 1. 52 extends the list of Git commands by four commands. With Git: Cherry Pick you can select a specific commit in a branch. Git: Rename allows you to rename an active file in Git. With Git: push tags local tags can be moved to the remote branch. Git: Checkout to (Detached) is used to check out in detached mode.

More details Information on further innovations of the November update of Visual Studio Code can be found in the post on the blog of the source code editor.
