Source: Pure PC added 30th Dec 2020Volkswagen has presented a working prototype of a robot that will charge electric cars. The company came up with this idea at least a year ago, but only now VW showed its idea in practice, confirmed by the video below. The mobile loading robot looks like the Star Wars droid R2-D2. Not only in appearance, but also in sound way of communicating with the environment. What is the purpose of this project? These are the robots that are to be used in the future to reach electric vehicles parked in large residential complexes. Thanks to this, car owners will not have to bother with special charging points.
Volkswagen unveiled a working prototype of a robot that will charge electric cars. Such devices are to eliminate the need to drive to special charging points in the future. Robots would appear, among others in every major car park.
Bonjour ! I am a robotic parking lot, where can I park my car?
According to the press release of the German brand, the robot works completely autonomously. It independently controls and communicates with the vehicle being charged: from opening the cover of the charging socket to plugging in and disconnecting the plug. Such a “mobile energy storage unit” can also handle charging multiple cars simultaneously. At first glance, this introduces a huge inefficiency: you will just have to charge the robot’s battery, which will then charge the cars, but it is always an idea.

, however, Volkswagen is optimistic: “Creating an efficient charging infrastructure for the future is the main task which is a challenge for the entire sector, “said Thomas Schmall, CEO of Volkswagen Group Components.” We are developing solutions that will help avoid costly steps taken alone. The mobile charging robot and our flexible fast charging station are just two of those solutions. “VW hopes start the mentioned fast charging stations at the beginning 2021 year. In the case of the robot, still assessing whether it makes sense to implement on a larger scale.
