Introduction

Wooting made a spectacular debut in 2017 with the Wooting one analog keyboard, which remains probably the most influential keyboard I have ever used, and I have kept to this day. By going for analog controls and an extremely featured web based software customizer, which only got stronger over the years, Wooting effectively started the race towards the use of Hall Effect switches. We saw this with the Wooting two HE two years ago, and the 60HE further cemented Wooting’s legacy as a strong gaming-centric keyboard. In fact, things got to the point where some features got the attention of not only other mainstream keyboard brands, but also game developers, publishers and e-sports organizers. We’ll cover some of this over the course of this review, as we get ready to cover Wooting’s latest entry in the keyboard market.

Wooting went the crowdfunding route with the original Wooting one, and I thought perhaps now the brand was large enough to go with a traditional launch. Little did I know how much demand there would be for the new 80HE to where Wooting arguably did the logical thing again, and held a large “Founder’s Campaign” that has since generated over €7 million across 20k backers. Timely updates and untimely delays later, we are now finally seeing the light at the end of this crowdfunding tunnel, the Wooting 80HE has finally started shipping to customers, with recent orders due in November 2024. In the meantime, the brand has continued to take pre-orders and has sent out review units to various media channels to hype up the interest further. The 80HE comes in a variety of options, including pre-builts with different cases and layouts/languages or modules that you use with your own case, switches, and keycaps. Wooting also sells various accessories for the 80HE, but overall I’d say my pre-built sample is going to be quite representative of the keyboard as a whole.
