Good news for makers around Munich (apart from the current Corona restrictions): The WerkBox 3 has found new rooms and the Fablab Oberland has finally become a reality. After the repair month of October, the sustainability area continues with a look at the future of clothing production. In addition, the network invites repair initiatives for online networking.

New Fablab in Gmund The “Hubertus” bus has been traveling through the Munich Oberland as a harbinger of the Oberlab for a year. After a long period of planning, the time has finally come: From November there will be a permanent hands-on workshop at Tölzer Straße 3a in Gmund am Tegernsee. There is currently no opening ceremony – but it will be rescheduled later. The Oberlab has six departments: 3D printing, wood, electronics, software, a cutting workshop with laser cutter and plotter, and a laboratory for biological and chemical experiments. Only workshops are currently planned in the field of textiles.

By the end of the year, there are dates for 3D printing construction with OpenSCAD and hand-sewn purses on the program. Every Tuesday, the Oberlab is also open to non-members on “Tüftel Tuesday” (participation is currently only possible with registration). Incidentally, thanks to funding from the Education Foundation of Stadtwerke München (SWM), Hubertus will continue to drive in the coming year and visit schools, educational institutions and events.

Repair knowledge online The Repair Initiatives Network held three webinars on the basics of repair knowledge in the summer. Topics were the repair of vacuum cleaners, CD and DVD players and interesting facts about measurement technology and soldering. The webinars can now be viewed online. On the page you will also find further handouts for Repair Cafés, for example for the repair of fully automatic coffee machines or sewing machines.

The new pottery workshop is already open and the Repair Café also resumed its work on the last Tuesday of the month. The welding courses should start again soon. Support is still being sought for the further expansion of the rooms. Every Wednesday the WerkBox³ is also between 19 and 20 Open to those interested without registration who want to implement their own projects.

Online hackathon “Hack Your Fashion” Can clothes be made in Germany again ? What opportunities does upcycling offer startups? These questions about sustainable clothing will be the focus of the online hackathon “Hack Your Fashion” from November 5th to 8th. During the three days, various workshops, symposia and a simulation game are on the program in which the future of textile production is discussed. The hackathon is a project of the non-profit organization Wissenschaft im Dialog and the University of Technology and Business (HTW) Berlin in the Bioeconomy Science Year. Participation is free. The platforms used are the video conference provider Zoom and the messaging service Slack. Registration is possible until November 5th.
