After all the controversies about security problems in the Zoom video calling application that led to governments such as that of the United States prohibited its use, the company has put to work to try to become a secure platform for its users.

Its latest addition is point-to-point encryption, a function that we can already find in applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram (in secret chats) and that allows to provide an extra layer of security to the data sent between the users of the service. Zoom has announced that it will arrive shortly.

October 20 will arrive point-to-point encryption to Zoom

Point-to-point encryption will arrive on 19 October in a new update Zoom in beta form or “technical preview” that will last one month, after which, if all goes well , will begin to integrate into the final versions of the service.

The system, E2EE, will use a system of public keys generated by the users’ own Zoom clients and not by the servers, such that Zoom itself will not be able to access the encrypted content. It will be compatible for the version for desktop, mobile and Zoom Rooms. Even so, for the moment, activating this option will deactivate some tools such as entering rooms before the creator, private 1-to-1 chats, streaming or recording transmissions in the cloud.
