Zurich is to become Switzerland's first AWS region
Source: Heise.de added 02nd Nov 2020Zurich becomes the first AWS region in Switzerland and thus represents the eighth region in Europe. From the second half of the year 2022 customers of the cloud service can use the Expect availability. Zurich will offer three Availability Zones (AZ); Amazon intends to operate the data centers exclusively in Switzerland.
So far, AWS only offers one in Switzerland CloudFront Edge Location and a Direct Connect location in Zurich. In comparison, customers should primarily benefit from lower latencies, and applications with stricter regulatory requirements should also be able to be operated in the region. Readers can find details on this in the announcement.
The competitors Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud already offer regions in Switzerland. Amazon has so far limited itself in Europe to Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Stockholm and Milan; Spain had announced AWS 2019 as a new location. The latter should also go online at the end of 2022 or at the beginning of the year 2023.
