While the smartphone market is dominated by Android and iOS, several operating systems are competing for flat screen televisions. Overall, Android TV scores with a clear design, high operating speed and an extensive selection of apps. Smaller weak points in terms of performance can only be found on very inexpensive or older flat-screen TVs with an Android system. It is therefore important to check every now and then whether there is an update for your own TV.

Tizen OS With Tizen, Samsung uses its own operating system; the sheer number of Samsung TVs alone makes it a major competitor to Android TV. With Tizen OS, all functions are packed into a horizontal menu bar. You can store the most important apps here, preview streaming content, switch sources, open TV recordings from USB sticks and jump to the picture and sound settings.

Tizen OS from Samsung offers a lot of information at a glance and likes it colorful. All of this succeeds quickly even if the selected Samsung television does not have the fastest processor. In contrast to its competitors Philips and Panasonic, Samsung has integrated a powerful media player into Tizen OS, which can play photos and videos as 360 Degree view. In addition, there is a function in “Ambient Mode” to display paintings, photos or infographics with news or weather data on the screen when not in use. Alternatively, this takes on the look of the wallpaper behind the flat screen TV.

Relatively new is the intelligent program guide, which combines content from television and streaming services. In terms of apps, Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers on the market. In addition to HD +, you can also find Disney +, Apple TV, DAZN, Sky Ticket, Netflix, Tidal, Amazon Music, Spotify and Deezer. Tizen OS supports Apple AirPlay 2 to stream photos, music and videos from iPhone or iPad wirelessly to the hip flask, as well as Google Chromecast and Bluetooth.

If you like control by voice, you will also get your money’s worth with Tizen OS. A recent software update makes Google Assistant available on Samsung smart TVs in addition to Bixby and Amazon Alexa. Together with WebOS from LG Tizen OS is one of the most user-friendly and versatile operating systems on the market.

Web OS LG uses the WebOS operating system in its OLED and LCD televisions, which is visually reminiscent of the keyboard of a piano. The latest version, WebOS 5.0, is extremely fast and clearly structured. The high level of operating comfort is also due to the fact that you can control a mouse pointer on the TV with the LG remote control. So you can move the so-called Magic Remote freely in the air and navigate to the desired window like with a laser pointer. This is surprisingly precise and you get used to it quickly.

LG’s WebOS provides apps and functions like on a keyboard. The individual tiles give access to the TV program, the most important apps (these are freely configurable), the home dashboard – an overview of all connected and networked devices – as well as the art gallery, the sports alarm and the fast media player for 360 – degree representations. The art gallery contains paintings, photos and drawings that transform the LG TV, including a wooden or metal frame, into a deceptively real work of art. The sports alarm provides timely information about when your favorite team is playing again, for example in football or basketball, and provides constantly updated results.

With AirPlay 2 and the support of Chromecast and Miracast, WebOS 5.0 is very communicative. The range of videos and games in the app area is plentiful, including Apple TV, Disney +, DAZN, Sky Ticket, Google Play Films, Netflix and Zattoo. However, music and news apps still have room for improvement. The already installed application “Reelgood”, a streaming guide that bundles content from Netflix, Disney +, Amazon Prime Video and Maxdome, is very useful.

LG has thought of the Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for voice control. In terms of handling and clarity, WebOS 5.0 is currently ahead, closely followed by Samsung Tizen OS, Panasonics My Home Screen and Android TV.

My Home Screen Panasonic equips its current flat screen TVs with the My Home Screen 5.0 operating system. This is clearly laid out, almost spartan, and requires little space on a flat screen. In the horizontal bar you can find the app icons from Netflix, YouTube and the “HD +” platform as well as access to the complete range of apps and an overview of all connected devices.

My Home Screen from Panasonic is limited to the essentials and is therefore intuitive to use. The sorting of the symbols is flexible, other applications can be added. You can also assign a button on the remote control to start your favorite app with just one press of a button.

New in My Home Screen Version 5.0 is the preview of thumbnails with various cinematic content as soon as you navigate to the streaming apps from Netflix and YouTube. The Panasonic software works quickly and smoothly with barely noticeable waiting times when changing menus. In addition to a DLNA server, My Home Screen also has the TV> IP function. This allows the TV signal to be transported over the network to a television set in another room in which no programs are traditionally accessible via cable, satellite or DVB-T2.

At Panasonic, the app offer is still expandable. With Disney + and Apple TV, two industry giants are missing here. Even those who like to stream music are currently losing out with the Japanese. When it comes to voice control, Panasonic is also not up to date: Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant can only be used in conjunction with separate speakers.

Loewe OS The traditional Loewe brand, which after the takeover by the Skytech Group was able to avert its final end at the very last second, is building its high-priced television with the Loewe OS6.3 operating system. In contrast to earlier Loewe TVs, the current models are easy to operate thanks to their attractive user interface with rectangular symbols and a simple menu structure. However, you have to get used to some little things first, such as the fact that a longer press on the “Home” button leads to the picture and sound settings.

The Loewe OS is clear, but important streaming apps such as Netflix are missing. The start page gives you access to the TV recordings that land on the internal hard drive. With the apps, however, you have to do without industry giants such as Netflix. These are only accessible via a Fire TV Stick from Amazon, which Loewe makes available to its customers free of charge after registering online. All applications on the streaming stick can be accessed via the heavy Loewe remote control.

In the spring 2021 Loewe wants to significantly expand the range of apps with a new platform. Loewe OS6.3 works quickly overall, but like Panasonic only enables voice control via Amazon Alexa via separate speakers such as the Echo Dot. Multimedia files can be accessed from a smartphone or a Fritzbox, for example. Loewe OS 6.3 has caught up with the market leaders from LG, Samsung, Panasonic and the like, but cannot quite keep up in terms of appearance and comfort.

Metz While the cheaper smart TVs of the Metz Blue series are delivered with Android, some Metz televisions come with a Linux Operating system used. This offers a special feature: The user can decide for himself how complex the user interface should appear. In addition, the number of functions can be gradually adapted to your own needs (“Simple”, “Comfort”, “Expert”). The start page and the submenus are kept very factual with clear labeling, but dispense with colored frills. But you know immediately which function is where.

The Metz user interface is based on a Linux system and attaches great importance to sober objectivity. The Linux system promptly implements control commands via the remote control and works at a good speed. The heavy metal signaling device with a well-structured key arrangement has reserved three keys so that preferred functions can be freely assigned to them.

If apps are important to you, you should think twice about buying a Metz TV. Because Netflix, Disney +, Apple TV, YouTube, Rakuten TV or Amazon Prime Video are just some of the relevant applications that are not available here. You have to buy a Fire TV stick separately.

Instructions are stored in the operating system so that you can look up almost any important topic quickly if you have any questions. Bluetooth and Chromecast are supported for streaming. Overall, the Linux operating system is very tidy and quickly transparent, without setting optical highlights.

VIDAA U3. 0 At the steadily growing TV manufacturer Hisense, the operating system listens to the bulky and somewhat getting used to name VIDAA U3.0. Conclusion The operating system of a TV may not seem essential at first glance. But it depends a lot on how you want to use the television in the future. Anyone who mainly watches traditional television or plays via a Blu-Ray player (guide) does not have to attach excessive weight to the TV OS. But if you use apps and streaming services, or stream video games from the cloud via a cloud service such as Shadow or Geforce Now, you should take a close look at what you are buying. Android TV is one step ahead here, and hardly any other manufacturer has app support.

Fitness trackers are available in various price categories and with a different range of functions. TechStage shows in a comparison test which device is suitable for which requirements.

If you want to buy a fitness tracker, you will find a large number of potential devices on the market that want to lure users with various features and often with low prices. We have tested numerous products in our fitness tracker theme world, all of which have an integrated pulse measurement and sleep analysis:

Fitness and pulse measurement What all trackers in our comparison test have in common are pulse measurement and step counter: The devices all measure the pulse via an optical sensor and record steps taken. The Fitbit Sense also counts the floors you climb every day. All trackers worked without any problems in the step counter test and reliably recorded the steps taken. They also all allow you to set individual daily goals using the app provided. If we have reached the daily goal, the trackers inform us about it.

The permanent pulse measurement also works reliably with all trackers: The deviations from measurements with the pulse belt were in the low single digits in any case Percentage range, whereby all trackers allow a useful long-term analysis of the heart rate. The Amazfit Band 5 and the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 also classify our pulse into different categories and indicate how much time we spent in a relaxed state, with light exertion and intense activity.

In addition to steps and pulse, all trackers also measure the calories burned during the day, but evaluate them relatively conservatively. In addition, some trackers offer an activity index that users can use to set specific goals for active minutes per day. The Amazfit Band 5 has the Personal Activity Index (PAI) for this, the Fitbit Inspire 2, the Fitbit Charge 4 and the Fitbit Sense offer a comparable function.

Training The trackers differ less in terms of training functions than in our previous comparison test. Almost all trackers have a sometimes very extensive portfolio of different sports that can be recorded with the device. Classics such as running, cycling and swimming are included here, as are yoga, cardio, weight training and sometimes more exotic candidates such as rowing on the machine or jumping rope (Amazfit Volume 5). The largest selection is offered by the Amazfit Band 5 and Xiaomi Mi Band trackers, the last one being the Fitbit Inspire 2, which only offers profiles for running, cycling, swimming, treadmill, weight lifting and interval training. The Beurer AS 90, on the other hand, falls again significantly because it is only Records sports in which steps taken can be measured. Overall, however, all other trackers cover a sufficient amount of sports so that amateur athletes should be satisfied with each of these devices.

All trackers are also waterproof and survive a trip to the swimming pool or under the shower. Some devices can also record running and cycling routes with an integrated GPS (including the Fitbit Sense and the Fitbit Charge 4). The other trackers use the GPS of the connected smartphone or measure the stride length. Even without GPS, the detection of the route length worked comparatively well with all devices – so you can also use a device without GPS if you don’t always want to take your smartphone with you. The Fitbit Sense even allows us to set the length of the lap while swimming and then counts the lanes swam. Most trackers also have training profiles for strength training, but none of them were really convincing in our test – the measurements of the individual repetitions were too imprecise.

Displays and controls Even if some manufacturers have improved the screens compared to previous models, some trackers fall significantly compared to their competition from. The devices all have a color screen, most of them with an OLED or AMOLED display, and can be operated using touch controls. This works everywhere without any problems, but the readability of the display on the Amazfit Band 5, the Fitbit Charge 4 and the Fitbit Inspire 2 leaves a lot to be desired – the screen is too dark in both cases in direct sunlight.

The Fitbit Inspire 2 also suffers from the fact that the display does not activate automatically when you touch it and we first have to press a side button before the screen appears. The Fitbit Charge 4 had a negative impact in the test when it came to touch operation because the tracker did not correctly recognize individual swipe gestures and the menus jerked.

The Fitbit Sense, Xiaomi Mi Band 5 and Honor Band 5 offer the best display, all of which convince with a sharp display and excellent brightness.

Apps Anyone of us If you want to use a tested fitness tracker, you must install an associated app on your own smartphone and create a user account. This works in all cases without any problems, but before we can use the individual devices to their full extent, we first have to click through various data protection declarations and consent menus.

If you can live with it, you will get good and clear apps for controlling the trackers across the board. All services provide intuitively operable statistics and menus with various information on collected data. The Zepp app of the Amazfit Volume 5 also has its own AI algorithm that analyzes the data and prepares its own recommendations. The Fitbit app focuses on maximum clarity and presents data from several days directly below one another, which actually promotes an overview. Beurer is apparently primarily aimed at an older target group and has therefore designed its own app to be rather simple and a bit conservative, almost old-fashioned. This also affects the overview and the rather cumbersome operation.

All trackers also allow notifications to be shown on the display. Users can set separately which apps are allowed to send such notifications in the respective smartphone app of the tracker.

Sleep Even if the meaningfulness of the sleep analysis of fitness trackers is still limited, show the devices we tested show long-term trends. The devices measure our pulse and, in most cases, automatically notice when we fall asleep and wake up. The respective apps show how much time we spent in which sleep phase. Fitbit trackers evaluate our sleep with a special sleep index that includes all measured sleep data and enables our sleep quality to be compared over a longer period of time.

The Xiaomi Mi Band 5 analyzes our sleep and then makes additional recommendations on how we can improve our sleep quality. Apart from the Beurer AS 90 we felt the measured data on all devices at least subjectively as credible and reliable. The Beurer AS 99 had problems with the sleep analysis: It was inaccurate Measurements of the waking phases and once the sleep tracking stopped in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. We have to work with Beurer AS 99 also activate the tracking separately before sleeping. The Beurer app then does not provide any information on the heart rate during sleep – a no-go in our opinion.

Finally, all trackers have an integrated vibration alarm clock, which always worked reliably. The Huawei Band 4 and Fitbit Inspire 2 also have a special do not disturb mode that we can activate in the tracker’s menu as required. The devices also lay comfortably on the wrist while sleeping, there were no unpleasant pressure points.

Battery life Depending on which functions we activate on the trackers and how intensively we use the individual tracking features, the battery life varies. Almost all devices in our comparison test lasted at least a week with activated notifications and regular use including training functions.

The Fitbit Sense had to lose some battery life when the GPS function was activated and it brought it with a training session including GPS per day for five days. At the bottom of the list is the Beurer AS 90 with only four days, while the front runner Amazfit Band 5 and the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 easily hold out two weeks.

The advantage of all trackers: The battery can be charged very quickly and takes a maximum of one hour. Corresponding charging cables are included with all trackers, but these differ depending on the model and rely on different connections. We didn’t notice the latter negatively in the test and we found them to be user-friendly throughout.

Particularities The individual trackers from our comparison test mostly rely on a similar look and comparable features, but most of them have Devices have a few more unique features. The Amazfit Band 5, for example, supports voice control using Amazon’s Alexa – a feature that no other tracker can offer.

The three Fitbit devices include a free year of Fitbit Premium when purchased. The service offers, among other things, training programs lasting several weeks with instruction videos, virtual competitions with other Fitbit users, mindfulness and meditation exercises, and detailed health reports. The Fitbit Sense also allows you to answer and make phone calls and can be controlled by voice.

The Mi Band 5 from Xiaomi compares our sleep data with that of other users and gives us based on it individual recommendations for our sleep hygiene, while the Honor Band 5 also measures the oxygen saturation of the user in the blood. The Beurer AS 99 and the Realme tape do not have any additional features worth mentioning.

Conclusion Although all of the fitness trackers we tested have individual strengths and weaknesses, a few clear winners and one clear loser emerge in comparison. Our overall winner is the Fitbit Sense, which with just under 122 Euro costs by far the most, but it delivers the best overall performance and provides users with an all-round carefree package. This is not only due to the excellent display, but also to the wide range of different tracking functions as well as the integrated voice and telephone control.

As the price-performance winner, the Xiaomi Mi Band 5 comes off with us, which scores with an excellent display, a very long battery life and extensive training functions. The cheap price of just under 30 Euro makes this tracker a real bargain. Almost equivalent alternatives are the Honor Band 5 and the Huawei Band 4, closely followed by the Amazfit Band 5, whose screen, however, cannot keep up with that of the competition.

We liked the Fitbit Inspire 2 less, the Compared to the Chinese competition, it offers too few features for three times the price, and the Fitbit Charge 4, whose display leaves a lot to be desired in terms of brightness and control.

The two taillights, which we currently advise against buying, are in our comparison test of the Beurer AS 99 and the Realme Band. The Beurer AS 99 suffers from an old-fashioned presentation and awkward operation – both exist it is better and cheaper with the competition. In addition, the Beurer AS does not have 99 sufficient tracking functions for athletic training. In the test, the Realme Band showed clear problems with heart rate measurement and sleep tracking, which is why we cannot make a recommendation here either.

iPhone 13, ARM Macs & Co: What we expect from Apple in 2021

The pandemic hardly seems to have thwarted Apple’s product plans 2020. The manufacturer brought a large number of new hardware onto the market: It started with an updated iPad Pro and a new edition of the entry-level iPhone SE, followed in autumn by the extensively redesigned iPad Air, a HomePod mini, and the two new Apple Watch Variants Series 6 and SE as well as the – several weeks late – iPhone 12. The first ARM Macs and AirPods Max ended a packed autumn.

But Apple shouldn’t take its foot off the gas, important product launches are also imminent for 2021. We give an overview of the expected devices and innovations.

MacBook Pro and iMac with Apple Silicon With the move the entry-level Macs based on ARM-based Systems-on-a-Chip (SoCs), Apple has only just proven that its in-house processors don’t have to hide from Intel. The entry-level models with Apple Silicon are superior to many benchmarks much more expensive Intel Macs and use comparatively little power.

Already in the first half of the year 2021 could now be followed by a high-end version with faster chips, more RAM and additional connections, possibly in the form of a new MacBook Pro. A 14 “model with mini-LED panel has been under discussion for a long time, which will replace the previous 13 “replaces MacBook Pro. Apple is working on processors with up to 16 high-performance cores as well as four energy-saving high-efficiency cores and more powerful GPUs with 16 and 32 shader clusters, it was said last. In addition to a new MacBook Pro, an iMac with Apple Silicon is also expected, possibly not until the second half of the year. There are also rumors about a new case design with a 24 “display. AirPods 3 Design changes are coming to the AirPods: The AirPods 3 will probably be based on the design of the AirPods Pro, so Apple should shorten the noticeably long stem. Active noise suppression is likely to be reserved for the Pro models. With the second generation of AirPods Pro, Apple is said to have a more compact design in a rounder housing that does not require any style.

iPad mini 6 Apple also likes to introduce new iPads in spring, usually in March, alongside an iPad Pro with faster ones With the chip, mini LED display and 5G support, a new edition of the iPad mini could also be pending, which 2020 did not receive an update. There are hardly any tangible rumors about the small iPad, but maybe Apple will bring the far-reaching innovations of the Air to the iPad mini 6, including the display that extends to the edge and the relocation of the fingerprint sensor to the standby button.

iPhone SE 2021 With the iPhone SE no major innovations are to be expected, but the device could become even cheaper in the trade and slide well below the 400 – euro mark . Occasionally it was speculated that Apple also wanted to launch a large version of the SE – based on the former Plus models with a 5.5 “display – but so far there are no concrete indications for this.

rC3: espionage in the cellular network

With clandestine cell phone inquiries and silent SMS, attackers can determine the location of hundreds of millions of cell phones. At the remote Chaos Communication Congress (rC3), security researcher Cathal Mc Daid from AdaptiveMobile Security reported on the fight against secret surveillance.

The attacks on the cellular networks have been under surveillance by the CCC for years. Already 2014 Karsten Nohl presented on the 31 C3, how open the SS7 cellular protocol for Abuse of all kinds up to the interception of SMS and the redirection of calls was. Some of the same problems exist with the successor version of the SS7 protocol for 4G networks called Diameter. The core assumption is still that in principle only authorized companies have access to the system and only use it for regular purposes. In practice, however, surveillance companies, criminals and governments use access points for the purpose of espionage.

Indirect attacks via Cell-ID or IMEI After all: Many providers are now using technology against abuse, for example provided by AdaptiveMobile Security. In practice, abuse is still commonplace, but only accounts for a tiny fraction of SS7 traffic, said Mc Daid. In order to avoid detection by cell phone providers, the attackers tried more and more often an indirect attack in which they first request information about the cell phone of a surveillance target such as the cell ID or the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity). The information that is actually desired, such as the location of the cell phone, is only skimmed off later.

The attackers have set up a complex infrastructure for this purpose. Mc Daid reported on a case in which an attempt was made to determine the location of a former French secret service employee with inquiries from Great Britain, Cameroon, Israel and Laos. But because of the provider’s countermeasures, none of the attacks was successful. The black market for SS7 queries shows that the fight against commercial espionage is successful. The price rises the more SS7 inquiries are made, since the providers fear that they will lose their access if their business is exposed.

Vulnerability in the S @ T browser A relatively new attack actually made this complex procedure unnecessary. The Simjacker attack published last year managed without interfering with cell phone systems: a specially prepared SMS was able to instruct a victim’s cell phone to send its own location back to the attacker. A weak point of the so-called S @ T Browser (SIMalliance Toolbox Browser) is used for this, which is installed directly on the SIM card by cell phone providers in many countries. As with cellular network attacks, the victim does not even notice the query, as the SMS is not displayed, but processed and answered directly on the SIM card. The attackers only need the phone number of their target. You can find out whether you can be affected by the attack yourself using the SIMtester tool from SRLabs.

After a year of observation, Mc Daid joined the group Convinced that so far only a single surveillance company uses this technology. She does that to a large extent, however. Many simjacker attacks are concentrated on a few providers on the American continent. At one provider, the security researcher even counted 400 attacks per 100. 000 customers within one year. Before the vulnerability is published, the number should even be used for 1300 queries per 100. 000 customers. This suggests that this method was used for broad and continuous monitoring.

After the discovery, mobile phone providers were also able to ward off these SMS attacks. Therefore, the attackers try to hide their interventions better. In practice, Mc Daid is now observing queries that combine Simjacker and SS7 attacks. For the 5G network, Mc Daid sees great advances in security design. However, the technology is also much more complex than 4G, so new weak points are to be expected. “Providers must expect to be the target of attacks – and must therefore work on their defense mechanisms,” warns the security researcher.

Realme UI 2.0 beta now available for the Realme 6 Pro and Narzo 20 Pro

Ever since its original unveiling back in September, Realme UI 2.0 has been eagerly-anticipated by many. While the company isn’t quite ready with the final releases for most of its lineup, it has managed to technically stick to its update roadmap. Yesterday, we got word of an opt-in limited Realme UI 2.0 beta program for the Realme 7 and Realme X2 Pro. Now it turns out that the Realme 6 Pro and Narzo 20 Pro can also participate.

Anyone interested in test-driving Realme UI 2.0 on these devices should head on over to one of the two source links for the official steps to do so. It is a fairly-involved process that requires a Google Docs form sign-up and even has certain criteria for participating devices. For instance, no rooted units are allowed. Also, apparently, there is a limited number of slots available for each device beta, so you might want to hurry.

There are quite a few things to get excited about, generally grouped into three categories – Creativity, Sociability and Productivity. The main focus of Realme UI 2.0 seems to be customization, which the company says is specifically targeted towards Gen Z users.

We have received a heavyweight from Qnap: the TVS – 672 N NAS server. NAS stands for Network Attached Storage, or in plain English, storage capacity on the network. Perhaps an overkill for one person, a solution for another. We are curious what the Qnap TVS – 743 N us in the streaming era can offer.

Qnap TVS 672 N: Scalable Hardware for User (s)

Technology has an expiration date . You know from a smartphone that a faster and better model will be on the market in a year. A NAS server should be more aging-free. The Qnap TVS – 672 N therefore has a lot of functionality on board, which you can scale. We have the test model with 4 GB DDR4 RAM (RAM stands for Random Access Memory, that is working memory, not storage memory). The processor on board is a desktop processor and supports up to 32 GB RAM. So if the initial amount of RAM is not enough, you can just expand.

This also applies to the storage capacity. It is also easy to expand. Our test model TVS 743 N has six hard drive bays. These can easily be put in at the front. In addition, the device also has 2x m.2 NVMe ssd storage slots (Gen 3 x2.2 GB / s). This makes SSD caching possible, which can increase the overall speed considerably. There is also a USB connection on the front for easy and fast file transfer and a display for reading information.

The party really starts at the back. The first thing that strikes us are the two expansion options with Pcie. It is therefore possible to expand with, for example, a (small) video card. Or the Qm2 card for an extra SSD, if necessary. We also see three ethernet connections type RJ 45. These have different speeds. 5G / 2.5G / 1G network ports make it possible to work with large files over the network. There is also 1x a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, 2x a Type C USB 3.2 Gen 2 port and 2x Type A USB 3.2 Gen 2 port. Because the Qnap TVS – 743 N equipped with a desktop I3 8100 T 3.1 GHz processor, you have access to Intel graphics. At the back we also find an HDMI connection that supports 4K. To make it complete also a 3.5 millimeter audio input and output.

On the Qnap TVS – 672 N runs Qnap’s own software. The Qnap operating system runs from 5 GB flash memory and that is nice and fast.

This is really just the hardware that we can see on the outside just as quickly. This gives you as a user, but also as a small company, an enormous amount of functionality. And we haven’t even looked at the software yet. It does indicate that this NAS is focused on the future.

Qnap TVS 672 N: Roon Ready

Connecting and installing is almost as easy as connecting a Sonos Five or Bluesound to the network. Qnap has paid attention to this in the right way to make it as easy as possible for the user (s). We set a password and end up in the Qnap environment of the NAS server. The first thing to do is add storage. We set a raid volume. This ensures that we significantly reduce the risk of data loss. Preference is given to large discs in sets of two. The support for a large amount of storage is of course available. Drives up to 18 TB are supported should it be needed now or in the future. Multiply that by a factor of six and we can get rid of quite a bit of music and movies, even with raid volumes configured.

There’s actually little you can’t do with the Qnap TVS – 672 N can do. You can set up the Nas for the office or for entertainment. And the latter is exactly what has our attention. Qnap has its own piece of software for music and movies. That works fine and for the average music and video enthusiast this is more than enough. Butâ ?? ¦â ?? ¦ there is something that we as audio enthusiasts attach a lot of value to. Roon! One app to rule them all! Roon does not need any further introduction (If you do, read our article about the Roon Labs software). But if you still want to read more about it, read all about how Qnap how Roon works enabled on the NAS. It can be downloaded and installed as an app. There is a small catch. However, the possibilities don’t stop there. We choose to install Roon on an external Samsung T7 SSD. The Samsung T7 SSD uses USB 3.2 Gen 2 and can therefore use speeds of until 1000 Get Mb / s. Plex is slightly less demanding and can be installed without Diva behavior.

Qnap also offers the possibility to run virtual systems. For this Qnap uses the software Container station. This gives you the option to run a Linux virtual machine or use Docker. Why can that be useful (and we think mainly in audio and video)? Because it gives you the option to set up a virtual machine that is purely focused on audio. Suppose you don’t have Roon but Linn. Qnap also provides this. But if you prefer to work with a different system, you can set up a virtual machine that serves as an audio streamer or database. Many people love to interact with a Raspberry Pi and try things out. On the Qnap you just create a virtual â ???? Raspberry Piâ ???? and you start working with it. Maybe you have a security camera around your house and you want the images for a few more days can look back. So there are a lot of possibilities and functionality that the Qnap TVS – 672 N us can offer.

It’s safer to use Qnap’s app center itself, but in some cases it’s no different.

The Qnap TVS – 672 N is a fairly heavyweight. With a price of 1. 599 euro is the Qnap TVS – 672 N not suitable for everyone. The price of one or more hard drives is in addition to that, but the user can start with one or two drives and expand later if necessary. But for the digital audio and video enthusiast, the Qnap TVS 672 N one solution and offers more than enough possibilities to provide storage. The Qnap is also highly scalable and you will always be able to upgrade in the coming years. Think of more RAM, an M.2 SSD or even a video card. And as an audio enthusiast, you don’t have to purchase a separate Roon server, you just install it on the Qnap. An Intel Nuc that functions as a server can easily cost around 365 a 599 euro (without storage or memory), but can expire when using a Qnap NAS.

Our initial question “Is it interesting to own a NAS?” we can answer with “yes”. Qnap also has smaller models and also more extensive models. Should the Qnap TVS – 743 If you are a heavy overkill or even fall short, then there is certainly a Qnap model that suits your personal needs.

New Realme phone with Dimensity 720 5G pops up on Geekbench

A new affordable Realme smartphone has popped up on Geekbench. It has the model number RMX3092 and comes with Dimensity 720 chipset with 5G modem.

The benchmark also reveals 8GB RAM and, somewhat disappointingly, Android 10. We are unsure as to what like the upcoming phone – it is the first one a number 3 after the code letters RMX, so it could be a member of a whole new line.

Alleged Realme 8 on Geekbench

The chipset and less-than-current Android version clearly indicate that it’s not a flagship we have here, so another theory is that we are looking at the Realme 8. We expect to know for sure as more hints and leaks pile up.

LG Stylo 7 5G renders and hardware details surface

LG’s Stylo line has somewhat successfully positioned itself as a more budget-friendly alternative, to Samsung’s Note family for a few years now. The main parallel between the two being the stylus, housed in the phone’s body. A successor to the Stylo 6 is actually a bit overdue at this point, but earlier leaks did already indicate that the Stylo 7 is on its way.

In this new leak we get a much clearer look at the Stylo 7 in higher resolution images along with some basic details, like general dimensions. The phone will sport a 6.8-inch flat display, with a punch hole for the selfie camera, in place of the notch of its Stylo 6 predecessor.

As per the source, these renders depict the 5G version of the device, which will measure 170.4 x 77.2 x 8.8mm (10mm including the camera bump). A 4G variant will exist, as well, likely with minimal physical differences.

Unfortunately, we have no info on the internals of the LG Style 7 as of yet. Even the phone’s camera setup remains a mystery, other than the fact that it will have 3 rear snappers, contradicting the quad camera array, suggested by earlier leaks.

Looking at the renders themselves, we can also easily spot a side-mounted fingerprint reader, as well as a Type-C port and a 3.5mm audio jack. And that’s about as much detail as we have. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any further developments.

Google removes Astrophotography support from Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G’s ultra wide camera

Google dropped the tele camera of the 4th generation and put an ultra wide camera on the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G instead. Some users were excited to use the Astrophotography mode with the wider field of view offered by the new camera, however, they were disappointed with the results as images came out noisy and with a very noticeable tint.

Good news – Google fixed the issue. Bad news – the fix just removed the Astrophotography option for the ultra wide camera. This change appears to have arrived with version 8.1 of the Google Camera app.

The main camera can still capture impressive-looking photos of the Milky Way, but that is probably not the answer people were hoping for when they first reported the issue in the Google Support forum.

Google has updated the Night Sight page with the following message:

Important: On Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5, astrophotography only works on zoom settings equal to or greater than 1x.

It seems that the 16 MP ultra wide camera used on both Pixels is just not up to the task of capturing multiple long exposures that are required for processing an astrophotography shot. Maybe the Google team will come up with new and improved processing and re-enable the ultra wide cam or maybe they’ll just sweep the issue under the rug and move on.

OnePlus 9 5G prototype just sold for $3,000 on eBay

Leaks and prototype units are just a part of the smartphone “game” nowadays, but this is not your usual story. If you haven’t been keeping up with the news – the OnePlus 9, 9 Pro and possibly a OnePlus 9E/9 Lite are one the way and likely expected to arrive in mid-March – a bit earlier than usual. There has been no shortage of leaks on the trio, including detailed renders. One source, however, want above and beyond and actually posted high-res, close-up shots of a prototype unit, complete with hardware details and software screenshots. Now, the exact same unit has been spotted on eBay and is officially sold for the whopping sum of $3,000.

How do we know it’s the same unit? Well, the product photos in the eBay listing feature the same distinctive carpet-like surface as a background and otherwise match-up with the earlier leak. Plus, the description of the now finished auction states that:

The leaked images on all internet sites are similar to this because I took the pictures and leaked this to all of them when I purchased it.

Interestingly-enough, it goes on to also explain that:

This is a prototype model with a beta oxygen os Android 11. I cannot guarantee a software update for this phone. This phone has a permanent set of numbers and letters displayed at the bottom that cannot be removed as of now. This is the phone only, no charger or anything else included in this sale … I will be doing a tech review of the phone before shipping and cannot guarantee it will be shipped at a specific time due to the holidays and the review. Once the review is done I will immediately ship the phone and send the link to the review when completed. Again I do not know when I will do the review at this time but it will be done in the next 2 weeks.

This is the really odd part here, since the seller/leaker is definitely aware that he/she has a prototype unit. Hence the lack of update and support guarantees. Apparently, however, they were not quite aware what that “permanent set of numbers and letters displayed at the bottom” was there for. In case you are wondering, it is there to identify prototype units and trace them to the source to prevent exactly these kinds of situations.

Some manufacturers use software-based identifiers like this, while others rely on more-permanent hardware markings, like dots, dashes and other patterns on the frame of the device. The original leaked photos of the phone had the identifier string blurred, but the eBay listing initially featured a photo with the ID fully-visible. Likely an oversight that was eventually corrected, but not quick enough for the internet to not remember it forever.

That being said, we are interested to see whether the seller/leaker will still go through with the review in the next two weeks, as promised. We’ll be keeping an eye out for that extra bit of potential weirdness to add to the story.

As for a quick leak recap of what to expect from the OnePlus 9 5G – it willfeature a 6.55-inch flat HDR display of 120Hz refresh rate and FullHD+ resolution. The Snapdragon 888 chipset will be paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage, while the back will have 48MP main and 16MP ultrawide cameras.

Inside will be a 4,500 mAh battery charging at 65W, while on the outside we’ll see a metal frame.

TUV certifies three batteries for Nokia phones, one with 5,050 mAh capacity (Nokia 7.3?)

Not in September, not in November, not in 2020. The Nokia 7.3 release date always seems to slide forward, but the phone does appear to be slowly working towards launch. The latest bit of info comes from TUV Rheinland Japan, which certified the batteries of two models.

One is possibly the 7.3 – or it could be renamed Nokia 7.4 by the time it launches (WT340). That one is rated at a 5,050 mAh typical capacity. The other device, presumably the Nokia 6.3 (or 6.4), has a slightly smaller 4,470 mAh power cell instead (CN110).

Back when Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 690, HMD Global CPO Juho Sarvikas tweeted his excitement to launch a phone with that chip. Current thinking in the rumor mill is that the Nokia 7.3 will use this chip to enable 5G connectivity while avoiding stepping on Nokia 8.3 5G’s toes (that one uses the 765G chipset). Previously, the Nokia 6.3 was rumored to use the Snapdragon 730, a 4G chipset.

Connectivity may be one of the larger differences between the 7-series and 6-series phones and may explain the need for a slightly larger battery on the 7.3. Other than that, the two phones are expected to e fairly similar.

Early rumors claimed that the Nokia 6.3 will have a 24MP main and 12MP ultrawide cameras (plus two more modules) while the 7.3 is expected to get an upgrade to a 48MP sensor. However, those rumors are now fairly old and it’s not clear how relevant they are (HMD may have reworked the phones since the early prototypes).

3,900 mAh battery for another Nokia phone (V730)

There’s a third device, the V730, though its small 3,900mAh battery could indicate a lower-end model. Or this could be the actual Nokia 7.3 battery, the model name is certainly suggestive. Plus, the Nokia 7.2 had only a 3,500mAh battery, so it will still be an upgrade, if a small one.
