The newest phone to arrive at GSMArena’s doorstep is the Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G. Not to be confused with the Oppo Reno4 Pro, the 5G variant comes with a Snapdragon 765G processor, 65W Super VOOC 2.0 charging, and up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage at the highest configurations.
The camera setup is tweaked from the Reno4 Pro. On the Reno4 Pro 5G there’s an 8MP camera with OIS, and a dedicated video camera in the form of a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 1.4µm pixels. There’s also a 13MP dedicated telephoto camera with 2X optical zoom. All of these cameras are capable of autofocus. One of the Reno4 5G’s headlining camera features is the Ultra Night Wide-angle Video, and Ultra Steady Video 3.0.
The Reno4 Pro’s display is a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. This screen is protected by the latest Gorilla Glass 6 which curves over the edges of the handset. Although the phone is rated for 500 nits of peak brightness, we tested much higher on the Reno4 Pro and we hope to see the same with the 5G version.
The phone comes in either 8GB + 128GB or 12GB + 256GB memory configurations and comes preloaded with Color OS 7.2 based on Android 10. The Reno4 Pro 5G is a higher-end midrange phone and we’ll be sure to let you know if it deserves to be your companion.
MediaTek continues its quest to create affordable 5G smartphones – the latest step in that direction is the Dimensity 700, a 7nm chipset similar to the recently-announced Dimensity 720.
The most important component is the 5G modem. It supports carrier aggregation which enables faster connections (up to 2.77 Gbps downlink speeds) and seamless handover between 5G cells. The modem also features Dual SIM, Dual Standby and VoNR (“Voice over New Radio” offers better audio quality than previous generations).
The modem also boasts global 5G NR band support and MediaTek’s “5G UltraSave” power saving technology.
The CPU of the Dimensity 700 is made up of two Cortex-A76 cores running at 2.2 GHz (slightly faster than 720’s big CPU) and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz. The chip can be connected to up to 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM (2,133 MHz) and UFS 2.2 two-lane storage (up to 1 GB/s transfer speeds).
The new chip can drive 1080p+ displays with 90Hz refresh rate, though its GPU is an ARM Mali-G57 MC2, down from the G57 MC3 found inside the 720. Check out the table below for a more detailed comparison between the two chipsets.

The Dimensity 700 is limited to 1080p resolution for video capture, while the 720 goes up to 4K, which makes it more suitable for mid-rangers. For photos, the new chip can handle cameras up to 64MP and features multi-frame noise reduction and several AI enhancements.
Speaking of AI, multiple voice assistants can run on the chip, including the ones from Google, Amazon, Alibaba, Baidu and Tencent.
MediaTek also added two chipsets meant for Chromebooks to its stable, the MT8195 and MT8192. The MT8195 is the more advanced option, fabbed using TSMC’s 6 nm process and featuring four of the latest Cortex-A78 cores in addition to four A55 cores.
There’s also a 5-core Mali-G57 and an APU capable of 4 TOPS, which can be used for voice and image recognition (including ultra low power voice wake-up). Dolby Vision, 7.1 surround sound and AV1 decoding are all supported.
The MT8192 is built on the older 7nm process and uses four A76 cores, which are two generations old now. The APU is slower too, rated at 2.4 TOPS. The GPU is the same, a 5-core Mali-G57, which can drive a 1440p displays at 60 Hz or a 1080p display at 120 Hz. Both chips feature PCIe Gen 3 and UBS 3.2 Gen 1 connectivity.
Chromebooks using the new chips will be out in the second quarter of 2021.
The two best-selling smartphones in the world during Q3 were iPhones, according to data by Canalys. The Top 10 chart also features five Samsung phones and three Xiaomi devices.
None of them come close to the Apple iPhone 11, which is miles ahead of the competition with 16 million units sold. Its sibling, the iPhone SE (2020) is a distant second with around 10 million units. While the SE is the cheapest new iPhone, the better feature set created the perfect value for money offering.
This is par for the course for these two – Canalys’ report for Q2 showed that the iPhone 11 made up nearly 40% of Apple’s global volume, the SE clocked in at 28%. The iPhone 11 in particular has held the #1 spot in the Top 10 chart for four quarters straight.
The Samsung Galaxy A21s is nearly even with the SE, followed very closely by the Galaxy A11. In fact, the only Samsung phones to make it into the Top 10 are from the lower half of the A-series – the most premium model is the A51.
Similarly, the best-selling phones by Xiaomi are Redmi models, lead by the Redmi Note 9 (including the Redmi 10X 4G version). Not even the Pro model and not the 5G variation either.
No 5G smartphone managed to get into the Top 10 chart during July-September quarter. However, Apple’s launch of the iPhone 12 generation and the multiple mid-range Androids with 5G that came out recently may change things in the next quarter.
Originally launched in December of 2019, Samsung’s Galaxy A51 is one of the most popular phones of 2020 and was followed up with a 5G counterpart in April this year. Today, we have our first substantial leak of the Samsung Galaxy A52 5G which will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 750G chipset and 6GB RAM.

The phone was spotted bearing the SM-A526B model number and scored 298-points in the single-core department and 1,001-points on the multi-core test. These scores are noticeably lower than the Galaxy A51 5G which does around 700-points on the single-core test and over 1,800 on the multi-core department but we’re likely seeing a pre-production model here.

Another interesting bit is that the A52 5G is listed with Android 11 on the software side. The only previous bit of intel we have is that it will feature a quad-camera setup similar to the A51. It remains to be seen what else Samsung has in store.

Apple has announced its first MacBook Pro laptop that will run on an Apple-designed processor at its “One More Thing” event, ushering in a new era of Mac computers.
It’s not just that Apple is making an Arm-based Mac; it’s that Apple is specifically making an Arm-based MacBook Pro, products it has emphasized as core parts of its lineup for both creative and technical professionals.
The new MacBook Pro comes in a 13-inch size and starts at $1,299. It replaces the previous entry-level MacBook Pro model. (The high-end model, with four Thunderbolt ports, will still be sold as usual.) The new MacBook Pro will feature Apple’s new M1 processor, which the company says features the “world’s fastest CPU core,” the fastest integrated graphics, and big power and performance gains compared to the Intel chips it had previously used. It’ll also launch with macOS 11 Big Sur, which Apple says it designed specifically to take advantage of the new hardware.
Apple says that performance on the new 13-inch MacBook Pro is 2.8 times as fast, with graphics that are up to five times faster than the previous generation. It’s a big leap forward, not just for Apple’s in-house chips, but for Arm-based laptops in general, which have largely been relegated to ultralight form factors and devices like the Lenovo Flex 5G, Samsung Galaxy Book S, or the Surface Pro X. No one has made an Arm-based laptop that promises the kind of performance that Apple claims the new MacBook Pros can offer.
Apple has been preparing for this since it first announced that it’d be switching over to its own chips, with the company already showing off applications like Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom running on Apple chips back in June. (Although it’ll clearly take some time to roll those out: Lightroom won’t be available on Apple silicon until next month, and other key apps, like Photoshop, won’t launch until 2021.) And of course, Apple’s own pro-level applications, like Final Cut Pro or Logic, have already been fully ported to work on Apple silicon Macs.
The new Apple silicon MacBook Pro won’t just run those professional applications, though: it’ll also offer compatibility with the massive library of existing iOS and iPad apps, thanks to the shared chipset, which could vastly expand the app options available for users at launch.
The company has also been designing its own processors for almost a decade, going back to its A4 chipset from the original iPad and the iPhone 4. And while Apple’s A-series chips have only grown more powerful over time (scaling up to products like the A12Z, which powers the iPad Pro and which Apple will have you believe offers performance on par with a laptop). Apple has used its own chips inside recent Macs, like the T2 security chip or the repurposed Apple Watch processor that powers the MacBook Pro’s touch bar.
But today’s release marks a considerable shift, one that will see those same iPhone and iPad chips — or at least, chips that are built on the same architectural foundation — make their way to macOS computers.
The fact that the company feels confident enough in its estimate of the Arm-based chips to offer a machine that’s designed for professional work (at least in name) is significant to see. That said, Apple has badly misjudged professional device needs in the past, with the company’s much-lambasted 2015 Mac Pro, in particular, standing out as a huge miss. It’s entirely possible that the new MacBook Pro could suffer the same fate.
The new MacBook Pros aren’t the only new Macs running on Apple silicon. The company also announced a new 13-inch MacBook Air and a new Mac mini, both of which run on an M1 chip.
The new 13-inch MacBook Pro will start at $1,299, with preorders starting today ahead of the November 17th launch.
The Stockholm Administrative Court has temporarily invalidated Huawei’s exclusion from the auction of 5G frequencies in Sweden. The court announced on Monday evening in Stockholm that legal action could be taken against the decision of the regulatory authority to exclude the Chinese suppliers Huawei and ZTE from the auction. The rules relating to Huawei are not to be applied until further notice, because the outcome of the proceedings “can be viewed as uncertain”. The regulatory authority PTS then canceled the start of the auction planned for Tuesday at short notice.

Huawei and ZTE are controversial, also because the US government is pushing for a waiver. Washington accuses the suppliers of maintaining close contacts with the Chinese military and the Chinese Communist Party. Other countries also perceive this as a security risk. Huawei always rejects the allegations. A possible exclusion of Huawei is also controversially discussed in Germany. The group has supplied many providers in Europe with infrastructure for the existing 4G network (LTE) and also played a role in their 5G planning. However, European network operators are increasingly turning to alternative providers such as Ericsson and Nokia, at least for their core networks.

We’re a little surprised Grado hasn’t found a way to make its first pair of true wireless earbuds open-backed. After all, this is a company so convinced of the benefit of the open-backed arrangement that it configured its first pair of wireless on-ear headphones in this manner. But even a brand as single-minded as Grado has had to sacrifice a principle or two in order to join the ongoing true wireless earbuds land-grab.
With the GT220, then, Grado has delivered a visually unremarkable and predictably configured pair of earbuds that go without some of the niceties (such as active noise-cancellation or a control app) and has slapped a premium price tag on them. So can such a small, unassuming product really be worth such big money?
Comfort
We’re not off to the most auspicious start. The GT220 are small and light – just 5g per earbud – but their polycarbonate housing is unyielding to the touch and doesn’t make the Grados feel like the premium product they’re priced as.
Despite following the established (and effective) ‘twist and lock’ fit template, the GT220 prove less than straightforward to get into position. There’s a choice of just three sizes of eartips in the packaging, which really isn’t enough. And even if one of these fit properly, getting the in-ears sitting comfortably and securely proves trickier than it should be.
Perseverance brings its rewards, though: once the GT220 are positioned to your satisfaction they turn out to be nice and stable. The mechanics of the fit provide a little passive noise-cancelling, too, which is doubly welcome given their lack of active noise-cancellation.
Build
Grado knows what it’s doing when it comes to build quality. That polycarbonate material may not feel in any way luxurious, but it is at least hardwearing and resilient, and everything here is constructed with complete precision.
Each earbud has a capacitive touch-surface on its outer plane (beneath the big, stylised ‘G’ logo that lights up depending on what the GT220 are doing). It’s responsive and reliable, difficult to confuse, and covers every major function: play/pause, volume up/down, skip forward/backwards, answer/end/reject call, and for summoning a phone’s voice assistant. The Grados are compatible with both Siri on iPhones and Google Assistant on Android phones, and though there is only one mic in each earbud, there’s nothing wrong with either call quality or voice assistant comprehension.

On the inside, the GT220 are fitted with a single 8mm polyethylene terephthalate full-range driver in each earbud. Bluetooth connectivity is via aptX, which is fine for getting high-resolution audio files on board without fuss, but we do wonder why the Grados’ premium price tag doesn’t stretch to aptX Adaptive compatibility – is no Grado owner likely to watch video content while wearing their GT220?
At least aptX Bluetooth assists in delivering quite impressive battery life numbers here. Despite their compact dimensions, the earbuds can hold up to six hours of power – and the equally compact charging case (which weighs in at just 42g) holds another five full charges.
So, as long as you don’t thrash the volume control, a reasonable all-in figure of 36 hours between case charges is achievable. The case can be charged using either a USB-C cable or any Qi-certified wireless charging pad, and from ‘flat’ to ‘full’ it takes a couple of hours.
Sound
Get the GT220 satisfactorily positioned in your ears and it doesn’t take long for them to reveal what they’re all about. Like many a pair of Grado headphones, the GT220 are absolutely unequivocal.
Once through a song as familiar as Fleetwood Mac’s You Make Loving Fun (as an MQA-powered Tidal Masters stream) is enough for the GT220 to give a reasonably full account of themselves. The overall sound is clear, detailed and completely direct. There’s an immediacy to the way they serve up the tune that sets them apart from the majority of their competitors.
The bottom of the frequency range may not have quite the impact the best of their rivals can offer, but it’s filled with information concerning texture and timbre. There’s a positivity to the way the GT220 handle the attack and decay of bass sounds that contributes no end to their overall speed.
Higher up, the midrange is treated with similar attention. Detail levels remain high – even minor transient details are picked up on and described. Clarity is impressive too, and as the GT220 establish a reasonably broad and deep presentation, a vocalist has the whole of the midrange in which to stretch out and do their thing. A listen to one as characterful as James Carr’s during Pouring Water On A Drowning Man confirms the Grados are as adept at extracting the nuance from a singer as any nominal rival – and more adept than most, at that.
But the GT220 overplay their hand a little when it comes to the top of the frequency range. We’re fans of speed and substance where treble sounds are concerned, but the Grados need a little more refinement to the way they handle the highest stuff. At some point ‘assertive’ can become ‘overconfident’, and the GT220 could do with backing off their attack just a touch. An already trebly recording such as Saint Etienne’s Only Love Can Break Your Heart can eventually become a little tiring in the Grados’ hands, especially if you’re listening at significant volume.
This high-end exuberance also contributes to their slightly disjointed way with timing. Broadly speaking, the overall sound of the GT220 hangs together pretty well – but they don’t render the momentum and drive of music with the finesse of, say, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2.
Elsewhere, though, they remain an accomplished listen. Both the broad and low-level harmonic dynamics of Telemachus’ Caroline What Is Wrong With You are described in full, with a kind of casual authority. The same tune allows the GT220 to showcase their out-and-out scale and insight, too.
Verdict
The Grado GT220 don’t look or feel particularly premium, and they go without some of the specification niceties that you might reasonably expect at this sort of money.
They’re not the most accomplished listen where timing or top-end refinement is concerned, either. But if you like your music to sound upfront and fast, detailed and immediate, then you’ll find an awful lot to like here.
A few days ago we could know that Mediatek was preparing some high-end chipsets that he planned to launch before the end of the year, now we have some more information about one of these chipsets, specifically the one named MT 6891 which, according to a leak on Weibo, would be the one that corresponds to the name MT 689 x and although in the previous leak if it had the digit at the end, now they comment that the last digit is not known. This new chip is manufactured with 6 nanometer technology and will be similar to Exynos 1080 from Samsung .
Coinciding that this new Mediatek chip will be an evolution of the Dimensity 1000 + that is manufactured at 7 nanometers, the new MT 800 X will have a Mali-G GPU 77 and would be placed alongside of the Snapdragon 865 with a score around 600. 000 AnTuTu points . So Mediatek will be able to offer SoCs for mid-range phones that can be priced much lower than the competition.
In this way, manufacturers that integrate this type of SoC in their terminals will be able to offer 5G technology, screens with refresh rate at 120 Hz and a good performance according to the AnTuTu score, in terminals that do not have an exorbitant price, such as Huawei that has opted for a Mediatek Dimensity SoC 800 U on your Nova 7 SE 5G Youth Edition, with 5G, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for less than 300 euros .

Micron Technology has announced a new breakthrough in the NAND flash memory : the US company presented the first 3D NAND flash at 176 layer , able to guarantee a density up to 10 times higher than the first 3D NAN projects D seen in past years. The new NAND targets the mobile sector, traditional SSDs that we see in the PC sector and servers and any other industrial sector where large storage capacity and high performance are required, such as that of 5G equipment, artificial intelligence and automotive .
Micron’s 3D NAND is the second generation of solutions the company has developed since ending its collaboration with Intel.
