Xiaomi prepares two Redmi Note 9 phones with 5G, leakster reveals key specs

Xiaomi launched a number of Redmi Note 9 phones in the first half of the year, but the company is yet to introduce the lineup at home and it appears this is finally happening.

According to prolific Chinese leakster Digital Chat Station, there are two phones in the pipelines – Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 5G Standard Edition and Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 5G High Edition. The former will be smaller in size and with modest specs, while the latter is likely to bring a mighty camera, chipset, and fast charging.

The vanilla Redmi Note 9 5G is going to have a 6.53” LCD with 1080p resolution with a single punch hole in the upper left corner for a 13MP camera. Around the back will be a triple camera with a 48MP primary sensor.

The specs sheet also says 5,000 mAh battery with 22.5W fast charging and the device will weigh 200 grams.

The mightier phone is likely to come with a 6.67” panel and 1080p resolution. It will also be LCD like its vanilla sibling, but will have a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The front camera will be 16MP, but the main one is where it gets interesting – 108MP shooter with Samsung’s HM2 sensor.

The chipset on the Pro (or whatever else it’s called) variant is allegedly the Snapdragon 750G that allows 33W fast charging for the 4,820 mAh battery. This phone will be slightly taller and heavier – 214 grams.

There’s still the mystery whether any of the original Redmi Note 9 phones with LTE connectivity will make it to China, but odds seem slim.

huawei-nova-8-se-announced-with-64mp-quad-camera,-66w-fast-charging,-and-5g-support

Huawei nova 8 SE announced with 64MP quad camera, 66W fast charging, and 5G support

Huawei introduced the nova 7 SE back in April, and after more than six months, the company has announced its successor, dubbed nova 8 SE.

The nova 8 SE is just 7.46mm thick, weighs 178 grams, and has a design largely reminiscent of the iPhone 12 with flat frames and squircle-shaped island on the back. The latter hosts a 64MP primary camera, 8MP ultrawide unit and two 2MP modules for macro and depth information.

The nova 8 SE is built around a 6.53″ FHD+ OLED display that has a waterdrop notch for the 16MP selfie camera. It also has a fingerprint scanner underneath for biometric authentication and supports HDR10.

Under the hood, the nova 8 SE has a Dimensity 720 chipset, but there’s also a High Edition that has Dimensity 800U at the helm. Both variants come with 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and run Android 10-based EMUI 10.1 out of the box.

Keeping the lights on is a 3,800 mAh battery which is smaller than the current industry standards, but it supports 66W charging, which promises to juice up the cell from flat to 60% in 15 minutes and 100% in another 20 minutes.

The rest of the highlights of the Huawei nova 8 SE include a USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 5.1, dual SIM support, and dual-band Wi-Fi.

Both the Dimensity 720 and Dimensity 800U-powered models of the nova 8 SE support 5G networks, but the High Edition offers 5G connectivity on both SIMs, whereas the Standard Edition supports the next-gen network only on the primary SIM.

The Huawei nova 8 SE has four color options and will go on sale in China from November 11. The Standard Edition is priced at CNY2,599 ($390/€330) and the High Edition will set you back by CNY2,699 ($410/€345).

better-business-bureau-finds-t-mobile-to-be-misleading-americans-about-5g-in-ads

Better Business Bureau finds T-Mobile to be misleading Americans about 5G in ads

A new release from The National Advertising Division (NAD) of BBB (Better Business Bureau) National Programs is calling out T-Mobile for its most recent marketing ads that could mislead customers about its 5G network.

The ad in question may lead customers to believe that T-Mobile and Sprint’s networks have combined and resulted in immediate benefits to T-Mobile customers.

T-Mobile has made clear its ambition to “build American’s largest 5G network” and that “T-Mobile’s 5G network will have “more towers, more engineers, and more coverage” than 5G networks of competitors. These would come as a result of the merger, though in the future tense.

The claims at issue for T-Mobile’s post-merger with Spring 5G service, which appeared in online and television advertising were challenged by Verizon Communications, Inc.

[…] NAD concluded, however, that claims about the benefits of the Sprint-T-Mobile merger together with the combination of imagery depicting magenta and yellow beams rapidly shooting from tower to tower, speeding through server rooms across cities and over vast landscapes, engineers installing technology upgrades, and consumers using their smartphones or teleconferencing, reasonably convey the unsupported message that the touted benefits of the merger will be imminently realized by consumers.

The NAD is recommending that T-Mobile modify its wording in the ad as to not suggest that the benefits of the Sprint merger are immediate. T-Mobile has supported the NAD’s recommendation and will modify the claims like “You’ll get the best 5G network”, “building a 5G network that will deliver unprecedented… reliability, and the highest capacity in history”, at least without means to support these claims.

sizing-up-the-iphone-12-mini-and-12-pro-max

Sizing up the iPhone 12 mini and 12 Pro Max

Apple’s iPhone 12 and 12 Pro are the “default” size iPhones this year. But Apple also has two more new devices: the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. One is Apple’s smallest iPhone in years — and the other is its biggest iPhone ever.

Here’s a first look:

From left to right: the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

iPhone 12 mini

If you’ve seen the iPhone 12 already, it’s basically that, but smaller. Same processor, same cameras, same design, same everything. But instead of a 6.1-inch screen, the iPhone mini has a 5.4-inch display.

But thanks to the iPhone X-style bezel-less design, the 12 mini is actually a physically smaller phone compared to the bezeled, 4.7-inch design that Apple has used on the iPhone 6, 6S, 7, 8, and the new version of the SE.

And by the standards of 2020 flagship smartphones, it’s really small.

From left to right: the iPhone 5S, iPhone 12 mini, and iPhone 7.

The 12 mini is also Apple’s lowest-priced new iPhone, starting at $729. Compare that to last year, where the least expensive new iPhone was the 6.1-inch, $699 iPhone 11: to get a more compact iPhone 11 Pro (which, at 5.8 inches, was Apple’s smallest 2019 model) you had to shell out a whopping $999. The 12 mini, on the other hand, offers a compact size with a smaller price tag.

And that smaller size is really nice to hold. iOS scales well to the 5.4-inch display, and the iPhone 12 design looks and feels just as nice on the slightly more compact version as it does on the full-sized model. If you liked the size of the the old 5 / 5S / SE, though, the 12 mini feels like the closest Apple has come to that style of device in a long time.

The iPhone 12 (left) and iPhone 12 mini (right).

It’s honestly a bit weird to hold at first, especially if you’re coming from a big phone. Some things do take a bit of an adjustment, like typing — but other parts of using an iPhone, like swiping down from the top of the display for notifications or the control center, are easier than they’ve been in years. But for the first time since arguably the iPhone 8, Apple has made a flagship phone that nearly anyone should be able to comfortably use and hold in one hand.

There are some concerns: the smaller physical size means that the mini has a smaller battery, which could translate to lower battery life, too — especially with 5G in the mix. We’ll have more on that, along with a much more comprehensive look at the 12 mini, once we’ve done a full review.

iPhone 12 Pro Max

On literally the other end of the spectrum is the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which — with a 6.7-inch display — is the biggest phone Apple’s ever made. It’s also the most expensive model in this year’s lineup, starting at $1,099.

And it is big, bigger than both Apple’s older iPhone Plus models and last year’s iPhone 11 Pro Max in terms of sheer size. The 12 Pro Max benefits from the same squared-off design as the smaller iPhone 12 models, meaning that it’s not as big of an increase as the bump in screen size might suggest.

The iPhone 12 mini (left) and iPhone 12 Pro Max (right).“,”image_left”:{“ratio”:”*”,”original_url”:”https://rondea.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/echo/cgartenberg_201105_4276_004.0.jpg”,”network”:”verge”,”bgcolor”:”white”,”pinterest_enabled”:false,”caption”:null,”credit”:null,”focal_area”:{“top_left_x”:0,”top_left_y”:0,”bottom_right_x”:2050,”bottom_right_y”:1367},”bounds”:[0,0,2050,1367],”uploaded_size”:{“width”:2050,”height”:1367},”focal_point”:null,”asset_id”:22015272,”asset_credit”:”Photo by Chaim Gartenberg / The Verge”,”alt_text”:”iPhone 12 mini”},”image_right”:{“ratio”:”*”,”original_url”:”https://rondea.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/echo/cgartenberg_201105_4276_006.0.jpg”,”network”:”verge”,”bgcolor”:”white”,”pinterest_enabled”:false,”caption”:null,”credit”:null,”focal_area”:{“top_left_x”:0,”top_left_y”:0,”bottom_right_x”:2050,”bottom_right_y”:1367},”bounds”:[0,0,2050,1367],”uploaded_size”:{“width”:2050,”height”:1367},”focal_point”:null,”asset_id”:22015270,”asset_credit”:”Photo by Chaim Gartenberg / The Verge”,”alt_text”:”iPhone 12 Pro Max”},”credit”:”Photo by Chaim Gartenberg / The Verge and Photo by Chaim Gartenberg / The Verge”}” data-cid=”apps/imageslider-1604631157_5409_320146″>

But unlike the mini, which is just a smaller version of the 12, there are bigger (pun intended) differences between the standard 12 Pro and its Max counterpart: Apple is taking advantage of the extra space to debut a whole new camera system, including a much bigger sensor and a new telephoto lens. Given how good the regular iPhone 12 and 12 Pro’s cameras are, that’s exciting.

We’ll have a lot more on that new camera — and how it compares to the standard 12 and 12 Pro — in our full review, so stay tuned for that, too.

As for how the 12 Pro Max is to actually use and hold, it’s still very much a surfboard of a phone, just like Apple’s other Plus and Max-sized devices. Looking at it on its own is somewhat deceptive, since it’s proportionally similar to the regular-sized models. It’s only when you see it in context next to another iPhone that the scale of it really hits you.

Despite the big size, it doesn’t feel too heavy in hand: I’d describe it as comfortably solid, although between the steel frame and the size, it’s not the sort of thing that I’d want to drop on my face, either.

Plus, while the screen size on the 12 Pro Max is bigger than ever, Apple still isn’t doing much to take advantage of the larger display. There’s no option to run apps side by side, like many supersized Android phones have, and it still seems like Apple is scratching the surface when it comes to utilizing the extra space. Right now, using it just feels like using a regular iPhone that’s been scaled up.

From left to right: the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

We’ll have a lot more on these devices soon, once we’re able to do full reviews for both the iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 mini, along with how they stack up to the already released iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

alleged-meizu-18-max-specs-sheet-reveals-sd875,-120w-fast-charging

Alleged Meizu 18 Max specs sheet reveals SD875, 120W fast charging

The Meizu 17 family arrived back in May, but we haven’t heard much from the Chinese manufacturer since. Yet today a leakster on Weibo claims to have the first renders and specs sheet of the Meizu 18 Max 5G.

The upcoming flagship is said to have a Snapdragon 875 chipset, paired with UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM.

The screen is said to be 3K OLED with unnamed exact resolution and the image reveals no punch holes, notches, or bezels for the 32 MP selfie camera. On the back, we should expect a 64MP main cam with ZEISS optics.

And here’s where it gets interesting – according to this one image, the phone will support 120W charging over the wire and 45W wirelessly, which would be a huge jump from 30W/27W rates in the Meizu 17. Other highlights include dual stereo speakers and a dual linear vibration motor for gaming.

However, this whole leak has a bunch of red flags to it so we wouldn’t get our hopes up just yet. The phone looks suspicious, the back panel has no flash of any sort and charging speeds while not unprecedented seem like a bit of a stretch seeing how Meizu was never at the forefront of the charging speeds race. Until we see further proof, we’d be leaning on this being more wishful thinking than actual early intel.

new-oppo-phone-with-64mp-camera,-65w-charging-leaks

New Oppo phone with 64MP camera, 65W charging leaks

Oppo is already working on its early 2021 mid-range lineup, supposedly called Reno5. A specs sheet of one of the upcoming phones leaked on Weibo at the same time it also appeared on TENAA.

Apparently the next Oppo Reno5 will have a 64MP camera and offer support for 65W fast charging. It will also run Android 11 with the latest ColorOS on top.

Oppo PEGM00 certification at TENAA

Two models (PEGM00 and PEGT00) have been certified, but they have the exact same specifications so it’s likely two versions of the same phone. The papers confirm 6.43” screen, 4,200mAh battery, and 159.1×73.4×7.9mm dimensions.

The leaked specs sheet, shared by Digital Chat Station, adds that the screen will be an OLED panel with with a 60Hz refresh rate and 180Hz touch sampling rate. The CPU will be clocked at 2.4GHz CPU and one assumption is that it will be part of a Mediatek Dimensity 800U chipset with 5G support.

The main cam will be accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide shooter and two auxiliary 2MP sensors. The leak claims the battery is 4,300 mAh, but the discrepancy from the official listing at TENAA might be the difference between minimal charge and typical charge.

If the phone really arrives with Android 11 out of the box, it might be the first Oppo phone to do so – right now pretty much all devices from all price ranges ship with Android 10 and ColorOS 7.2.

motorola-has-unveiled-the-new-moto-g9-power-smartphone-with-a-6000-mah-battery

Motorola has unveiled the new Moto G9 Power smartphone with a 6000 mAh battery

Fresh Power is the third phone in Motorola’s Moto G9 range and the successor to the 8-month-old Moto G8 Power.

Motorola has today released the third vesa in its Moto G9 product family – a novelty called the Moto G9 Power. The manufacturer has already released Moto G9 Play and Moto G9 Plus. G9 Power acts as a follower of only 8 months old Moto G8 Power was clearly speeding up this year’s Moto G9 series release schedule after last year’s publications sprinkled half of the year.

As with previous G9 series releases, the Moto G9 Power clearly stands out from its predecessor in terms of size. The Moto G9 Power’s display is as large as a 6.8-inch panel bearing the Max Vision HD + marketing name, the details of which have not been shared by the manufacturer at the time of publication. Based on the name, the resolution is HD + (720 p) level, which means that its resolution is below the Moto G9 Plus with the same size screen. Technically, this is probably a traditional IPS LCD panel.

In appearance, the Moto G9 Power shows clear references to the Moto G 5G Plus released in the summer with a similar square camera system, although a quarter of the cameras in the frame have been replaced with an LED flash. The cameras are operated by 64 megapixel main camera and two 2 megapixel sensors, one of which is a macro camera and another depth camera. 10 The megapixel front camera is placed in a hole in the screen as is familiar from other G9 series in the upper left corner

According to the model name, the battery distinguishes the Moto G9 Power from its mass and sibling models. The phone battery has a massive 6000 mAh, which according to the manufacturer should be enough to carry the device over 60 hours of operation time. iphone-12-mini-and-pro-max-compete

iPhone 12 mini and Pro Max compete

Apple completes the flagship iPhone models 2020. On the introduction of iPhone 11 and 12 Pro in October there will now be a model variant with a smaller 5.4 “display and another model with a 6.7” screen – both sizes were included iPhones not yet. iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max can be changed from Friday to 14 Pre-order the watch, as announced by the manufacturer.

Mini and Max complete the iPhone 12 The iPhone 12 mini has all the functions of the iPhone 12 – from the OLED display to 5G support – with its full-surface 5.4 “display (2340 x 1080 pixels) but at the same time smaller and lighter than Apple’s classic iPhone with home button and 4.7 “display – a form factor that the company in IPhone SE continues to offer its entry-level model. The iPhone 11 mini brings Apple in Germany at prices from just under 780 Euro for the 64 – GByte model in trade, it is on par with the iPhone 11 in the past year. Just like the Pro, it is offered in black, white, blue, green and red (Product Red).

Despite the larger display, the dimensions of the iPhone 12 Pro Max has grown only slightly compared to its predecessor, it is even thinner than the iPhone 11 Pro Max and XS Max. It stands out from the iPhone 12 Pro through its camera system with a new 65 – millimeter telephoto lens, which enables a 2.5x optical zoom. According to Apple, the camera sensor in the Max model is also significantly larger and, for the first time, sensor shift image stabilization is used – here the sensor is moved instead of the lens to stabilize. What the new camera system is ultimately good for and how much it differs in practice from the 12 Pro will be first show tests.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is from Apple scarce 1220 Euro with 128 GByte storage space available. The sales start of both models follows on 13. November, at this date the delivery should also start.

Detailed tests and purchase advice for the individual iPhone – 12 – models follow in Mac & i issue 6 / 2020. Subscribers will receive the test in advance as a PDF by email. (If you are a subscriber and have not yet received such advance articles, we probably do not yet have your e-mail address. In that case, please contact leserservice@heise.de). The iPhone – 12 – tests also appear on heise +.

HomePod mini is also launched At the same time, Apple’s new HomePod mini can also be pre-ordered from November 6th – a smaller and cheaper alternative the Siri HomePod speaker. The mini version is based on a ball design and is equipped with Apple’s ultra broadband chip U1, which is supposed to improve the interaction with new iPhones. The HomePod mini is available in space gray and white, it costs just under 100 euros from the manufacturer. In trade it should be from 16. November.

the-premiere-of-the-smartphone-motorola-moto-g-5g-–-the-missing-link

The premiere of the smartphone Motorola Moto G 5G – the missing link

In the middle of this year’s holidays, I had the opportunity to test the Motorola Moto G 5G Plus smartphone, which I remember well for the presence of solutions such as NFC, a traditional headphone jack, a sensitive and fast fingerprint reader, as well as a screen with well-reproduced colors. Today, however, the Moto G 5G model is making its debut, which is slightly different from the previously mentioned device. Whether he is more interesting than him, tests will show. Today I would like to take a closer look at the technical specifications of the phone and the most important features determining its real usability. I will just mention that on the occasion of the premiere of Motorola Moto G 5G, the Moto G9 Power model also debuted, to which I will devote a separate entry.

Meet Motorola Moto G 5G, a new smartphone from the manufacturer that is the next step to popularize the mobile network in the 5G standard. Let’s check what exactly the manufacturer has prepared for customers.

Smartphone test Motorola Moto G 5G Plus – rival for OnePlus Nord

In terms of visuals, Moto G 5G does not differ much from Moto G 5G Plus models and the most important difference here will be the screen notch which has been transferred from the side edge to the center of the top panel. This time it is a single camera module, not a double as in the case of its predecessor. Here we get 16 Mpix unit with f / 2.2 light with Quad Pixel function. This means that photos are processed to a resolution of 4 Mpix. We also find here a number of modes such as: Portrait, Beautify, Night. The image is displayed on a 6.7-inch LTPS Max Vision screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080.

Motorola Moto E7 Plus smartphone test – great camera and low price

Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 G, 4 or 6 GB is responsible for performance RAM and 64 or 128 GB of RAM. The latter can be expanded by up to 1 TB using microSD cards. The battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh, according to the manufacturer, will provide up to 2 days of work on a single charge, but let’s wait for the test results. Speaking of charging, here we find Turbo Power technology for power 16 W. In theory 12 – a minute charge should allow even 10 operating hours of the equipment. As in the case of the predecessor with the note Plus in the name, we find here USB-C (unfortunately only USB 2.0), an FM radio, a single speaker and solutions such as Bluetooth 5.1, WiFi ac and NFC for contactless payments.

Construction with dimensions 166, 1x 76, 1 x 9.9 mm weighing 212 grams, made of plastic, is splash-proof, which is confirmed by the IP standard 52. There is a triple camera system on the backs, consisting of 48 Mpix main unit with f / 1.7 light, 8 Mpix ultra wide angle with f / 2.2 aperture and 2 Mpix macro camera. It is worth mentioning that we also get a new camera application (known, for example, for Motorola razr 5G), which is much more convenient than the previous version. Motorola Moto G 5G smartphone running Android 04 with the effort My UX will cost in Poland 1299 PLN for the basic variant.
