iOS 14.2: New emojis, new functions, many bug fixes

Apple has iOS 14. 2 and iPadOS 14. 2 released for download. The operating system update can be downloaded via the integrated software update (Settings / General / Software update) or installed from a desktop PC via iTunes.

The new iOS version integrates the Unicode standard 13. 0 and contains over 80 new emojis, from ninja to beaver to a classic Italian hand gesture. New groceries, household items and musical instruments are also available, as Apple announced – as well as other gender-neutral emojis.

New functions in iOS 14. 2 iOS 14. 2 contains a revised music control in the control center, which enables quick access to the audio content last played and music output via multiple AirPlay -Speaker intended to simplify. Apple also allows the purchased music recognition service Shazam to be added to the control center in order to quickly identify music played on the device via headphones.

With the update, Apple is also introducing the battery management system known from iPhones on AirPods: “Optimized charging” is intended to extend the battery life by using the earphones only up to 80 percent are loaded – instead of immediately to 100 percent. When playing very loud music through headphones, the operating system should also warn the user of possible hearing damage.

The magnifying glass function can be used in iOS 14. 2 the LiDAR sensor of iPhone Pro and iPad Pro 2020 to record people in the area and to name their distance – a new operating aid for users with impaired vision.

iOS 14. 2 also brings eight fresh background images as well as support for the new intercom function, with which voice messages can be sent to Apple’s WiFi speaker HomePod and other devices. Optionally, users can also anonymously share information about coronavirus encounter notices with health authorities, as Apple notes. Whether this function will also be introduced in Germany remains unclear for the time being.

Many bug fixes The updates for iOS and iPadOS also address a number of errors and problem areas, including jumbled apps in the dock or problems with the photos widget. Also, when creating new reminders, points in time from the past should no longer be suggested, as Apple lists, a possibly black screen during Netflix playback has been fixed. IPhone charging via the Qi charging mat should work reliably again instead of possibly being interrupted.

Apple also seems to have tackled a persistent bug that can lead to missing GPS tracks when recording sports activities with the Apple Watch – watchOS is probably also improving here 7.1 after. According to the manufacturer, restoring an iPhone via backup and migrating data from another iPhone no longer deactivates the corona encounter messages.

With iOS and iPadOS 14. 2 Apple also closes security holes. The manufacturer should publish information on the plugged vulnerabilities shortly.

Best auto-follow drones 2020: Top 4K and 1080p HD flying cameras to give you beautiful aerial shots

(Pocket-lint) – Drones may be the best way to grab an aerial view of the surrounding area, but having an eye in the sky often doesn’t come cheap – unless, of course, you opt for one of the top budget drones that are now soaring onto the market.

The cheaper price point naturally brings with it some compromises, but, generally, the standard of these more affordable flying cameras is good enough for most people. With that small caveat acknowledged, you then need to discover what features are most important – and, obviously, which device offers them.

The recording quality, flight time, and control features, as well as the actual size and weight (particularly important for evading registration restrictions) of the drone, are all essential considerations. And in this guide, we’ll be detailing some of the very best drones at the budget end to help you pick – let’s fly.

Top auto-follow drones you can buy today

Holy Stone

Holy Stone HS720

Holy Stone’s HS720 may be at the top-end of the budget drone price range, but it delivers an expert blend of features that make it a top pick to consider.

The headline is 4K UHD video capture, but it’s backed up by GPS-assisted flight – meaning it will automatically return, follow or circle – and a battery that allows for up to 26 minutes of flight (with recharging taking 5-7 hours).

When unfolded, it measures out at 14.37 x 13.19 x 2.4- inches and weighs just over 453g.

Potensic

Potensic T25

Potensic is a well-established name in the world of drones, and its T25 is another top pick for those who want plenty of features for less.

It manages to capture in 1080p HD, with a 120-degree field of view, auto-return, auto-follow, and the ability to set a custom path letting you capture all the aerial shots you need with minimal effort.

The package – as well as coming with an aluminum case and the controller – also features two 1000mAh batteries, which should each give you roughly 14-18 minutes of action.

Contixo

Contixo F18

If you need to keep your budget under $200, Contixo’s F18 is an excellent device to consider.

The 2048 x 1152 resolution camera operates with a 110-degree field of view, letting you capture from up to 1500ft away. The drone will automatically fly back to you if it loses signal, but, if you want to avoid that altogether, you can also set it to follow your path.

There are plenty more functions to take advantage of, too, and you get to experiment with them for a pretty solid amount of time – the Contixo battery lasts around 20 minutes on a single charge.

Potensic

Potensic Dreamer 4K

squirrel_widget_3625775

We’ve already outlined exactly what you get from Potensic’s entry-level option, but on the other end of the scale is the Dreamer.

This drone shoots in 4K, with the Sony sensor and anti-shake ball able to help you get a stable shot with healthy exposure levels. When it comes to what you control, there’s plenty: follow mode, circle flight, waypoint flight, precise altitude flight, auto return, one key take-off/landing, headless mode, emergency stop, FPV, and APP control.

It’s an incredible amount of features, and, even better, the 3000mAh battery means you’ll be able to take advantage of them for 31 minutes – with recharging taking just two hours.

Deerc

Deerc DE25

You get a simple package with the Deerc DE25, but it’s more than enough for beginners and kids.

The 1080p and 90-degree vertical tilt gimbal give you stable, crisp shots, with features such as follow mode, altitude hold, headless mode, and hand gestures letting you control the experience.

Naturally, it’ll also return to the user automatically once out of range or running low on battery (which lasts for 18 minutes on a single charge).

Drocon

Drocon DC-08

Another excellent beginner drone with a raft of features comes from Drocon, with its DC-08 shooting in 1080p with a 120-degree field of view.

Thanks to the onboard GPS, you’re able to shoot freely – the drone will automatically return when out of range or on low battery, while you can also set it to follow your path or surround you for hands-free action.

Handily, the device is also programmed so it won’t fly out of range (420m), which makes it a great pick for kids.

Dragon Touch

Dragon Touch DF01G

squirrel_widget_3635785

If you just need a way to grab aerial shots for the lowest possible outlay, Dragon Touch’s DF01G is the pick for you.

You don’t get shortchanged, either, with lots of features to explore. The drone itself shoots in 1080p through the 120-degree field of view lens, with modes for auto-return, auto-follow, circling, customized path, and headless orientation, as well as three speeds to flick between.

If that wasn’t enough, included in the package are two batteries, which, combined, can give you 30 minutes of flight time.

DJI Mavic Mini 2: for the small drone it's time for 4K

The drone for everyone “, this is the name by which DJI Mavic Mini is known. Small and light, the foldable quadcopter of the Chinese brand is certainly one of the easiest solutions for those who want to approach the world of aerial shots due to price, size and weight. ‘ For all’ is a somewhat optimistic appellation, as you always need precautions, a little experience and, as we have already said on these pages, knowledge of the rules of the air. Before talking about the launch of the new DJI Mavic Mini 2 it is necessary to make a small premise.

The drone is there, the category is not

In theory at this point of 2020 it should already have been operational (from July) the new EASA regulation for drones, which aims to standardize the rules of the air at EU level and which introduces important changes compared to the past and the national regulation created by ENAC for our country. The Covid pandemic – 19, however, has also affected this sector and the entry into force of the new EASA regulation has been postponed to 31 December 2020 . In particular, and this is the reason for this premise, the new categorization of aircraft would have been in force, with the division into 5 classes (0, 1, 2, 3 and 4), which also determines the requirements for its use.

For a product like DJI Mavic Mini 2, the sub-category to which it belongs is fundamental to be able to designate it (or not) the title ‘ For all ‘. The problem is that, since the final regulation is not yet in force, the drone will not have the C0 labeling which certifies its belonging to Class 0, although it complies with the requirements. , with a take-off weight of less than 250 grams. The drone, according to current indications, will therefore be able to fly according to the rules of the category starting from 1 January, but its destiny must be assessed at the end of the transition phase (and derogation) set up to allow all countries of union to ratify the indications by incorporating them into their national regulations. The end date for this transition period is currently set to January 1 2023 . Waiting for the final regulation, we also remind you that, although weighing less than 250 grams and usable according to the rules Europeans in the category, a drone equipped with shooting system will still have to be registered with the national body, a procedure that today is much less complex (and expensive) than in the past . For information, please refer to the d-flight platform site which has been assigned the task of managing the registration of operators and aircraft.

DJI Mavic Mini 2: it’s 4K time

Coming to the technical data, the new DJI Mavic Mini 2 introduces important improvements compared to the previous model , unlocking some functions that on the first Mini had been ‘castrated’ for positioning and marketing reasons. The megapixel photo / video camera module with CMOS sensor in 1 / 2.3 “ format it is finally ‘free’ to record videos to the best of its ability and users can also take advantage of the 4K / format) pa 100 Mbps , while before they had to settle for the maximum 2.7K format. When shooting in Full HD format 1080 p you can also now access one 2x digital zoom without loss, taking advantage of cropping 4K image. News that will certainly please those who take photographs is the possibility to record also in RAW format and no longer only in JPEG as on the first Mini.

DJI Mini 2 integrates several optimizations for what concerns the functions and flight performance, compared to the original version. Drone and controller communicate with the technology OcuSync 2.0 can offer (where legislation allows) to control Mavic Mini 2 up to 4 km away . The dual frequency technology automatically changes the band in use, in order to minimize interference.

DJI has updated the rotors and motors bringing the flight range to 31 minutes and with the possibility of raising the drone even in difficult conditions with winds up to 38 km / h. The drone uses GPS, position and vision sensors to maintain a stable position in flight, but it lacks the sensors for the detection and avoidance of obstacles that instead characterize the older brothers ..

The maneuvers and automated shooting modes, which have greatly contributed to the success of DJI products, remain a fixed point. We therefore find the maneuvers with automated shooting Dronie, Helix, Rocket, Cerchio and Boomerang , in addition to the shooting modes of panoramic shots (directly mounted in a single image) ball, a 180 ° and 3×3 wide-angle.

News also with regard to the phases following the flight, with the possibility of connecting the smartphone directly to the drone , without having to go through the remote control anymore, to share photos, downloading them to your phone and editing them with the DJI Fly app. It is also possible to download the videos, with the further possibility of segmenting them and downloading only the most interesting portions, to avoid wasting unnecessary time to transfer several gigabytes of data when perhaps you are only interested in a few seconds of a clip.
