According to a document from the Gigafactory of Shanghai new compact Tesla may arrive sooner than expected
by Rosario Grasso published 12 January 2021 , at 16: 11 in the Technology channel Tesla
Della new compact Tesla from 25 thousand Euro it was discussed for the first time on the occasion of the last Battery Day in conjunction with the project relating to the new Tesla cell 4680 , which should consen to produce more efficient batteries at lower costs.
However, no timescales have been indicated and several aspects of the project remain shrouded in mystery. According to a document from the Gigafactory of Shanghai , forwarded to the Chinese government, we learn that the realization of these plans shouldn’t be very far in time. Tesla, in fact, would have planned to deliver the first examples of compact Tesla already in 2022 .
New compact Tesla of 25 thousand Euro already in 2022
“According to the construction project document from the Tesla Gigafactory and posted on the Internet, Tesla’s new home models will be produced directly in the Shanghai Gigafactory” reads on Weibo. “The placement and sale price will be lower than the Model 3 , between 160. 000 RMB and 200. 000 RMB. Mass production and delivery may already take place in 2022 “.
We are talking about figures starting from approximately 21. 500 Euro up to approx. 27. 000 EUR. According to what had been learned in the past, Tesla would aim at two different models for the Chinese and European markets. The first will be built in the Gigafactory in Shanghai, while the second will be assigned to the Gigafactory in Berlin. Elon Musk explicitly said that he would like to market a Tesla that meets the needs of European motorists and conditions of European urban traffic, unlike what happens with current models, designed for the US reality. However, it is still unclear whether the Chinese and European models will differ substantially or whether these will be small adjustments to a common starting point.
Tesla has recently started producing the Model Y in China.

Peloton, a company known for its internet-connected bikes and treadmills, is wading into the Stop The Steal mess. The company is now preventing users from creating a #StopTheSteal tag from within the app, saying the tag does not “meet our guidelines” when a user goes to create it. Peloton’s community guidelines specifically ban “hate, offensive, and obscene speech” as well as “bullying, harassment, and other offensive behavior.” We’ve reached out for additional clarification about when Peloton began blocking this hashtag and why.
Tags on Peloton function as community identifiers. When people join a tag, it appears under their name on the company’s leaderboard during workouts, and they can socialize with other members of that tag. Anyone can create a tag, and new tags are popping up in response to the #StopTheSteal ban. Groups like #StopTheSteall, #StopTheSteel, #StopTheCensorship, and #StopTheFraud are all marked as “new” in the app.
This isn’t the first time Peloton has had to ban potentially inciting phrases. Last year, the company banned political talk from its official Facebook groups as well as QAnon-related tags, offering up the same community guidelines message. Although the app doesn’t allow for live chatting with people in a class, the tags still share specific messages. The #BlueLivesMatter and #BlackLivesMatter tags are still allowed within the app.
Other tech companies have also moved to limit this hashtag’s reach. Instagram allows the hashtag to exist on the platform but only shows “top” posts for it, not the most recent.
Today in super offer a Xiaomi WiFi repeater at 10 Euro, but also two excellent Zhiyun gimbals with super price while stocks last, the models C 11 Cinepeer and Crane M2!
by Editorial team published 11 January 2021 , at 16: 07 in the Multimedia channel Zhiyun Xiaomi
We all have a smartphone and there are those who delight in making videos with some attention . All these, sooner or later, collide with the poor shooting stability , even those that have a smartphone (but also action cameras such as the GoPro ) with optical stabilization. It really changes EVERYTHING with a gimbal : there are specific ones for smartphones that usually cost among the 85 and the 140 Euro depending on the brand and any offers. That’s why this offer regarding ZHIYUN Cinepeer C 11 is truly exceptional: only 45, 49 Euro , shipping included!
The brand is highly regarded, often chosen as an alternative to DJI because it does the same things and costs less. Cinepeer C 11 is a version with very few functions less than the Smooth 4 of the same brand, which is also very popular. In addition to the very effective stabilization on the three axes, there are the convenient features in the app for timelapse, motion lapse and time lapse, as well as the possibility in the video phase to hold the face or an object at the center of frame .
With the simple click of a button you can switch from horizontal to vertical orientation (perhaps for a story in Instagram), all with smartphone up to about 200 grams of weight (but we also tested it with slightly heavier devices, without problems).
Obviously you need to position the smartphone so that it is well balanced, but there is the handy clip so no problem. It has a 4000 mAh , which can also serve as an emergency battery bank. Other features:
– Led for battery charge status. – Mode LED and button to change it. – Joystick for orientation. – Micro USB port (recharge, possible updates). – Zoom control with dedicated button
But it is not the only one on offer today, there is also the model Crane M2 which bears much heavier loads, up to 720 grams. An even more professional solution. It costs 50 Euro less compared to Amazon (controlled).
Really low price for this too Xiaomi Mi Pro WiFi Extender 300 Mbps, 1, 77 Euro shipping. Really impossible to find better for less, considering that it is also of a reliable brand!
Reah Keem is just like you and I — she loves working on music, vacationing abroad, and is pretty bummed out about not being able to visit any cool places right now. The biggest difference, however, is that Reah Keem isn’t a real person.
LG introduced Reah Keem as a virtual influencer who appeared during its live-streamed CES keynote to unveil the company’s new line of LG CLOi UV-C robots. The robot, which was announced by LG in December, is designed for areas with high traffic, like hotels, and roams around shining UV-C light that should reduce exposure to harmful germs. Keem’s job was talking about how important the CLOi UV-C was to her own life, using the chance to talk about how excited she was to start traveling again in the real world — a world in which she technically does not exist.
She may not need oxygen to breathe, but Keem is definitely leaving her mark on the real world (including living in Seoul, apparently). She has around 6,000 followers on Instagram and a SoundCloud page with exactly one song. For what it’s worth, it’s pretty good.
Virtual influencers aren’t new, but the appearance of a virtual creator at a highly virtualized and socially distant CES really hammered home how weird this event was. It’s nothing short of bizarre watching a creepily accurate virtual influencer say things like “I’m going to chill in my studio,” working on some sick beats, until the pandemic comes to an end and safe travel can happen again.
Although, paying an influencer to promote something they don’t really care about seems entirely accurate to the influencer ecosystem. It’s unclear if LG actually created Reah Keem, or if LG paid her for her services at all; a press release only says that LG “introduced” Keem.
Will Keem have a future outside of this one LG live stream? Will she face competition from other big-time virtual influencers, including Miquela Sousa (better known as Lil Miquela) or Shudu? Right now, she’s working on her sick beats in her cool home studio, but the virtual influencer scene is heating up.
What will be the news of WhatsApp in am I arriving at this 2021? The most used and important platform in the world seems ready to introduce many new features for users including one that will allow you to use multiple devices at the same time with the same account. Let’s see them together.
by Bruno Mucciarelli published 11 January 2021 , at 12: 01 in the Telephony channel Whatsapp
Whatsapp is undoubtedly the most used messaging application in the world. A platform that has changed a lot over the years, introducing multiple innovations regarding more or less graphic and more or less important aspects. In fact the 2021 could be a very important year for users who use this type of system on a daily basis to exchange messages with each other. The innovations that the developers of Mark Zuckerberg have planned to develop and introduce are in fact so many and this means that important changes await us especially in the use of the system on the desktop and beyond.
WhatsApp: here are all the news coming in 2021
Use on multiple devices
Finally it will also arrive for WhatsApp and its users the ability to use the platform on multiple devices at the same time. Therefore, anyone will no longer have the mere need to insert the SIM and therefore only and exclusively connect the account to their phone number and therefore use the system only on the device in which the SIM is inserted. The change will only allow users to use WhatsApp simultaneously on a smartphone, on a tablet or even on a computer but with a maximum of 4 devices. And this clearly without the need, as mentioned above, to have the connection via SIM.
A system that has been used for some time with other competitors as Telegram which synchronizes all messages on its cloud and therefore allows users to use their account on multiple devices at the same time. Messenger but also Instagram does the same and therefore it is legitimate to finally expect the arrival of this news also for WhatsApp, after having already seen it in the Beta versions in the last few weeks.
Video calls on WhatsApp Web
Video calls made directly on the desktop application will also be a reality. The Web version of WhatsApp will soon be enriched with the possibility of making video calls directly with your PC and this, in a phase of life in which many users are blocked at home for various lockdowns, can only be a very appreciated novelty.
Anyone can open the Web version on their PC or notebook and use the WhatsApp application to make a classic video call just like it has been on the mobile version for some time. Therefore, no inconvenience of having to use your smartphone to call your friends or even your colleagues or customers with video. Soon it will be possible to do it with the PC camera and maybe even better quality than what happens today with the smartphone.
Vacation Mode
It will probably be one of the most awaited news by WhatsApp users. Let’s talk about the so-called Vacation Mode (the name could also change during the formalization phase) and it will involve group conversations that exchange significant quantities of messages. In this case, in fact, the users participating in a certain group in a chat can easily move the conversations they are not interested in to a special archive in such a way that each message returns to the foreground in the list of various chats.
In this case, therefore, the chats would become almost secret and hidden unless the user of his own free will decide to view them. And here he should go to the appropriate section of the “ archived ” conversations and read them since they would not have sent any kind of notification and would not have appeared in any way in the list of other conversations.
Shopping
There will be the introduction of a button for Shopping. This seems to be a further novelty that WhatsApp intends to introduce precisely from this new one 2021. The goal of the Zuckerberg giant is to allow its users to do real shopping directly on chats and in the internal services of the messaging application. A novelty that has long seemed in the thoughts of the creator of Facebook and which could now actually arrive on WhatsApp. How? It is still not clear but it seems that users will be able to visit real shopping stores inside the platform with catalogs or product showcases from which they can buy directly.
In this case, however, it seems that WhatsApp, in the event of an actual purchase by the user, will send the same to any secure payment platforms on specific sites or after the confirmation of the order. Certainly what the developers of WhatsApp hope is to simplify this step too and to allow in the short term to be able to make payments directly on the messaging platform but in fact this step does not seem to be immediately immediate indeed the development seems to have been postponed or in any case are not so fast.
The history of photography is made up of small revolutions . The most important are certainly those that have ‘democratized’ its use and led more people to approach photography. The invention of the portable camera by Oskar Barnack is certainly one of them (by the way, you know why the classic film 35 mm ha 36 pose? Find the answer in this article on Barnack and Leica). However, few inventions have had on mass culture the influence of the invention of instant photography , the one that allows you to see the photo taken a few minutes after shooting, without having to wait for the complex operations. development in the dark room. Something that seems obvious to the new generations, accustomed to digital photography and the possibility of immediately seeing the result on the screen of a smartphone or digital camera.
Bombarded with digital and intangible files, today’s young people and children are very attracted to photographs that can also be touched. Try to give a child a photo book with photos of travels and family moments and you will see him scroll through the pages every time with wonder. Then try to take a picture with an instant camera, with the print being ‘spit’ out of the machine just after the click: the ‘ Wow ‘ effect is always insured. Many technologies have chased each other in recent years in the instant photography sector, on the one hand to run for cover due to the disappearance of some of the old instant development media (due to the environmental limitations to some reagents) and to try to intersect digital photography and instant development .
The historical Polaroid came short of breath to the rebirth of instant photography, indeed it had arrived completely out of breath, throwing in the towel before the time was ripe again . Fujifilm, which had much bigger shoulders, is instead making it a successful segment, able in some moments to help the budget of other divisions in difficulty.
From its side Polaroid was reborn through the stubbornness of some of its last workers, first in the form of the Impossible Project, which has since grown to the point of regaining control of the Polaroid brand. Polaroid Originals, with Polaroid Now are the result of this reunion and brand and first product of the new course.
Polaroid and Fujifilm today they carry out a dual strategy, made on the one hand of traditional instant film products and on the other hand instant printing products that allow digital shots to be materialized in seconds. Two philosophies that intercept different needs and in this article we will try to see which ones.
Polaroid Now – The Polaroid of yesteryear
Polaroid Now apparently leaves little room for modernity . Daughter of DNA Polaroid is a instant development analog camera . However, it reinterprets tradition in a modern way, trying to introduce some of the innovations we are all accustomed to by now, first of all autofocus and automatic exposure , as well as a convenient USB port for recharging (the battery is no longer in the films as it once was), which allows you to shoot 15 films with a single charge, accessible from the smartphone charger. Bring the traditional Polaroid shooting experience back to life. we point, shoot, we await with some emotion the slow unveiling of the photo on the film, with the final satisfaction (or disappointment) that unfolds together with the development of the photo.
Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay – Digital Snapshot with Audio
Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay is on the contrary the maximum of hybridization. Born from the union between a digital camera with 1/5 “CMOS sensor and resolution of 2560 x 1920 pixel and an instant film printer . But it also adds a microphone for ‘ print ‘the audio in the photographs (in the form of a QR code that refers to a link on the web where the audio is stored) and a MicroSD slot. It allows you to shoot even after some time from the shot and to select bad shots and to be thrown away to avoid wasting useless film. It can also connect to your smartphone and act as a printer for photos taken with your mobile phone.
Instant photography , but different philosophies
We are therefore faced with two diametrically opposed philosophies, the first that has its roots in tradition and stops there, the second that instead tries to decline instant photography in a more modern key .
By user now used to shooting digitally for many years, I must admit that the first approach is the one that initially intrigued me most, but which turned out to be less suitable for everyday life. Also considering the cost of the films (16 euro for 8 sheets for the Polaroid and just over 10 euro for 10 sheets for Instax Mini), every wrong shot is felt on the wallet and it’s something you have to get used to. It also takes a little experience to familiarize yourself with the sensitivity of the film (combined with the low aperture of the lens): where in digital today it is easy to take a shot home, the film result is not always guaranteed. Polaroid Now’s built-in flash can help, but it doesn’t have a great range and the auto exposure system doesn’t always handle it well.
Much easier, although less romantic, the ‘use of Instax , which shoots digitally and allows you to evaluate the performance of the shot before sending it to print. In addition, the camera provides the classic automatic exposure compensation tool, to compensate for any reading errors and a small LED comes in handy in situations where the light is poor. In perfect post-Instagram style, the Fujifilm camera offers a series of filters to edit images , as well as several frames.
Instax Mini LiPlay, as the name also implies, plays a lot on compactness, making it one of the most ‘pocket’ in the category of instant cameras, while Polaroid Now has the size of its bigger sisters of the years that were. To remain small and compact, the Fujifilm proposal uses Instax Mini films, which, as the name again implies, have a particularly small format, with a frame size of 46 x 62 millimeters, while the Polaroid image area is much larger: 79 x 79 millimeters. At Fujifilm there are also larger formats, with Square films from 62 x 62 mm and Wide from 99 x 62 mm, which require the use of other camera bodies . Different types of frames are available for both Polaroid and Instax, from the most classic to those colored or decorated with various graphic motifs.
Instant Camera , which one to choose?
Many may ask the question ‘ Instant Camera, why choose it ‘with a slightly sarcastic tone, but in reality nowadays, although the instant is more often captured and shared through smartphones and instant film cameras they may still make sense. They make sense because they stimulate more senses . You will forgive the pun, but a photograph observed on a mobile phone screen does not have the same sensory experience as a printed and handled one, perhaps whose development process has also been observed with trepidation. In this sense Polaroid Now is much more traditional and emotional and still gives that trepidation to wonder ‘ Who knows how the photo came out ‘typical of film shooting in general. Having “expensive” shots can also lead to a more thoughtful approach against click bulimia typical of the digital world and result, even for ‘experienced’ photographers, preparatory to more reasoned, and therefore to better results in general.
Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay is instead a bridge towards a modernity more hybrid , where the shot is digital, it can be reviewed, chosen, edited and then printed. In this sense it is very similar to the combination of a smartphone and an instant printer, a product that both brands make available. In reality, the ujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay camera can be used in a dual way as once connected to the smartphone it is able to print the photographs taken with the mobile phone. Given the performance of current smartphones, with modules much more advanced than those of the small Fuji and able to access ‘computational photography’ with amazing night results, this is a feature that should not be underestimated.
In closing, a tip: be it instantaneous, output from a printer or sent to print at a laboratory, print your photos. There is nothing more beautiful than finding an old photo at the bottom of a drawer and being carried away by memories. Between 15/20 years you might even find an old smartphone at the bottom of a drawer, with thousands of photos and memories, but turning it on could be a business .

Just about any account you own on the internet is prone to being hacked. After numerous widespread breaches through the past few years, tech companies have been working together to develop a standard that would make passwords a thing of the past, replacing them with more secure methods like biometric or PIN-based logins that do not require transferring data over the internet.
But while those standards are still being adopted, the next best way to secure your accounts is two-factor authentication, or 2FA. This a process that gives web services secondary access to the account owner (you) in order to verify a login attempt. Typically, this involves a phone number and / or email address. This is how it works: when you log in to a service, you use your mobile phone to verify your identity by either clicking on a texted / emailed link or typing in a number sent by an authenticator app.
What are authenticator apps?
Authenticator apps are considered more secure than texting. They also offer flexibility when you are traveling to a place without cellular service. Popular options include Authy, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or Hennge OTP (iOS only). These apps mostly follow the same procedure when adding a new account: you scan a QR code associated with your account, and it is saved in the app. The next time you log in to your service or app, it will ask for a numerical code; just open up the authenticator app to find the randomly generated code required to get past security.
While 2FA — via text, email, or an authenticator app — does not completely cloak you from potential hackers, it is an important step in preventing your account from being accessed by unauthorized users. Here’s how to enable 2FA on your accounts across the web.
Apple
Two-factor authentication is currently offered to Apple users on iOS 9 and later or macOS X El Capitan and later.
iOS
The steps are slightly different depending on how updated your iOS software is. For those using iOS 10.3 or later, you can enable 2FA on your Apple ID by going to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security. Turn on 2FA to receive a text message with a code each time you log in.
For those using iOS 10.2 or earlier, the settings are under iCloud > Apple ID > Password & Security.
macOS
Again, steps are slightly different depending on your version of macOS. If you’re using Catalina, click the Apple icon on the upper-left corner of your screen, then click System Preferences > Apple ID. Click on Password & Security under your name, and then select “Turn On Two-Factor Authentication.”
For Mojave and earlier, after you click the Apple icon, click System Preferences > iCloud > Account Details. (You can shorten this step a bit by typing in “iCloud” using Spotlight.) Click on Security, and you’ll see the option to turn 2FA on.
The remainder of the steps, from either iOS or Mac, are the same. You can opt for Apple to send you a six-digit verification code by text message or a phone call. You can also set up a physical security key here.
Instagram
Instagram added 2FA to its mobile app in 2017, but now you can also activate it through the web.
To activate 2FA on your mobile app, head over to your profile and click the hamburger menu on the upper-right corner. Look for “Settings” > “Security,” where you’ll find a menu item for Two-Factor Authentication.
Here, you can choose between text message-based verification or a code sent to your authentication app.
To turn on 2FA using the web, log in and head to your profile. Next to your profile name and the Edit Profile button, there is a gear icon. Clicking this will pop open a settings menu, where you can find the same Privacy and Security section as on the app. From here, you can turn on 2FA and, just as in the app, choose your method for verification.
Facebook
The way to access Facebook’s 2FA settings is a bit different on the app and the web (and Facebook tends to update both layouts often).
You can access your privacy settings on the mobile app on both iOS and Android by clicking the hamburger icon on the upper-right corner and scrolling down to the bottom to find the “Settings & Privacy” menu. Tap “Settings” > “Security and Login” and scroll down to “Use two-factor authentication.”
Like Instagram (they are part of the same company, after all), you can opt for a text message or an authentication app.
On the web, click the down arrow in the upper-right corner, and select “Settings & Privacy” > “Privacy Shortcuts.” Look for the “Account Security” heading and click on “Use two-factor authentication.”
Additionally, for apps that don’t support 2FA when logging in with a Facebook account (such as Xbox and Spotify), you can generate a unique password specifically associated with that account. From the original down arrow, select “Settings & Privacy” > “Settings” and then, from the menu on the left, “Security & Login” > “App passwords” (under the “Two-Factor Authorization” subhead). After resubmitting your Facebook password, you’ll be able to name the app, click generate, and save that password for the next time you have to log in.
Twitter
On the Twitter mobile app, tap the three-line “hamburger” icon at the top left of the screen and find the “Settings and privacy” selection. Go to “Account” > “Security.” Click on “Two-factor authentication” and follow the directions.
On the web, click on “More” in the left-hand menu and find “Settings and privacy.” Click on “Security and account access” (or you can just follow this link). Select “Security” > “Two-factor authorization.”
Once you’re all set up, Twitter will either ask for verification through an authentication app, or you will text a code number to your phone number when you want to log in. Twitter has also added security key support.
As with other services mentioned above, you can generate a backup code to use when you’re traveling and will be without internet or cell service. You may also see an option to create a temporary app password that you can use to log in from other devices. This can be used to log in to third-party apps if you have them linked to your Twitter account. Note that the temporary password expires one hour after being generated.
Amazon
Go to the Amazon homepage and log in. Hover over “Accounts & Lists” and click on “Account.” A box labeled “Login & security” will be at the top of the page; click on that and then click the Edit button on “Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings.” (You may be asked to reenter your password first.) You can also navigate directly to that page by following this link.
Click Get Started, and Amazon will walk you through the process of registering your phone number, or you can opt to use your preferred authenticator app by syncing it through a QR code.
You can activate 2FA on both the Android and iOS Amazon app by tapping the hamburger menu on the left side and finding “Your Account” > “Login & security.” The same “Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings” selection should be available for you to edit and toggle on 2FA.
Once your phone number or authenticator app has been verified, you can select trusted devices to bypass 2FA or generate a code to log in via a mobile app.
Google
The easiest way to turn 2FA on across your Google accounts (i.e., Gmail, YouTube, or Google Maps) is by heading over to the main 2FA landing page and clicking “Get Started.” You’ll be asked to log in then select your mobile device from a list. (If you have an iPhone, you may have to download a separate app.) Google will try to send a message to that phone; if it succeeds, you will be asked to enter a phone number; you can then choose whether you want to receive verification codes by text message or phone call. Again, Google will try out your chosen method.
After that, Google will first send prompts that allow you to simply click “Yes” or “No” when a login attempt occurs. If that doesn’t work, it will send the text message or phone call.
You can also generate backup codes for offline access. Google generates 10 at a time and they’re designed to be single-use, so once you’ve successfully used one, cross it out (assuming you’ve printed them out) as it will no longer work.
Snapchat
From the app’s main camera screen, tap your profile icon and find the gear icon to access your settings. Select “Two-Factor Authentication” and choose whether to receive a text message verification or hook it up to your authenticator app.
Once 2FA has been enabled on your Snapchat account, you can add trusted devices or request a recovery code for when you’re planning to be somewhere without cellular service. Snapchat does not seem to currently support security key logins.
Slack
To enable 2FA, you’ll first need to find the Account Settings page. There are two ways to access this:
Click on your username on the upper-right corner of the Slack app to open a drop-down menu and select “View profile.” Your account information will now display on the right side of the chat window. Under your avatar and next to the “Edit Profile” button, click the three-dotted icons for additional actions, and find “Account settings.” You can also head straight to my.slack.com/account/settings
You should immediately see the selection for “Two-Factor Authentication.”
If you do not see the option for 2FA, check whether your Slack account is for work. Some employers may use single sign-on services that bypass the need for 2FA, which eliminates this from Slack’s Account Settings page.
If this is a personal Slack, however, then click “Expand” on “Two-Factor Authentication” to verify your information by an SMS or authenticator app. If you have multiple email addresses, you may need to select a default one before you can decide on your preferred 2FA method.
Microsoft
Log in to your Microsoft account and find the “Security settings” menu (there are several ways to get there; click on the link for the easiest). Look for the “Two-step verification” section and click on the setup link. You’ll be walked through the steps needed to use either the Microsoft Authenticator app or use a different authentication app. You’ll also be able to create passwords for apps that don’t accept 2FA.
Dropbox
From your Dropbox homepage on the web, click your profile avatar and find Settings; then go to the Security tab. Find Two-Step Verification; it will tell you the status of your 2FA. Toggle to turn the feature on and choose to receive 2FA through a text or your authenticator app.
WhatsApp
Open up WhatsApp, and find the Settings menu under the upper-right hamburger icon. Look under “Account” > “Two-step verification” > “Enable.” The app will ask you to enter a six-digit PIN to use as verification and optionally add an email address in case you forget your PIN.
Having an associated email with your WhatsApp account is important since the service won’t let you reverify yourself if you’ve used WhatsApp within the last seven days and have forgotten your PIN. So if you can’t wait a week to reverify for whatever reason, it’s helpful to have entered an email address so you can log yourself in or disable 2FA. In the same vein: be cautious of emails encouraging you to turn off 2FA if you didn’t request it yourself.
PayPal
On the main Summary page, click the gear icon and find the Security tab. Look for the section called “2-step verification” and click on the Set Up link. You’ll get a choice to have a code texted to you or use an authenticator app. (PayPal also offers to find you an authenticator app if you want one.)
If you lose your phone, change numbers, or decide to revoke authorization rights, come back to this menu to make adjustments.
Note that the interface is different if you use PayPal as a business account. From the main Summary page, click the gear icon to be taken to the Settings page. Under Login and Security, look for the Security Key option to add your phone number or a security key as your 2FA method.
Nest
Smart home products like Nest are not exempt from getting hacked — in fact, Nest now strongly encourages its users to enroll in 2FA. For Nest, make sure your app is up to date on all of your devices. Then, on the home screen, go to Settings > Account > Manage account > Account security, and select two-step verification. Toggle the switch to on. A series of prompts will ask for your password, phone number, and the verification code that will be sent to your phone.
Keep in mind that all of your devices will be automatically signed out, so you’ll have to sign in again using the two-step verification.
If all your family members don’t have their own logins and have been using yours, it’s a good idea to set them up with separate logins using Family Accounts. Otherwise, when they try to log on using two-step verification, the necessary code will be sent to your phone, not theirs.
Ring
Like with Nest, make sure your Ring app is up to date. Swipe over from the left, then go to “Account” > “Two-Factor Authentication” (you’ll find it under “Enhanced Security”). Tap the big “Turn on two-factor” button. A series of prompts will ask for your password, phone number, and the verification code that will be sent to your phone.
From then on, you’ll need both your password and an SMS verification code whenever you want to log in to Ring from a new device.
Signal
Rather than traditional 2FA, Signal uses a PIN. Click your profile icon on the upper-left side and find “Privacy.” Look for “Registration Lock” to require your PIN (which you were asked for when you originally registered) to be entered each time you re-register your phone number. Signal requires your PIN to be at least four digits long, and up to a maximum of 20 digits.
When you first enable Registration Lock, Signal will ask you to type in your PIN in the first six and 12 hours after being enabled. The company says this is designed to help you to remember it through random repetition. So after the first day, it will ask you to enter it in the next day, then in three days, and finally one last time after a full week.
If you happen to forget your PIN and can’t log in to Signal, you will have to wait seven days of inactivity for your registration lock to expire, after which you can log in to your app again to set up a new PIN. Those who are already actively using Signal won’t have to worry about the Registration Lock resetting, as that clock only starts when the app isn’t open.

For services not listed on this guide, check out TwoFactorAuth.org to find the app or service in question. This helpful site links to every official guide for companies that support 2FA, and gives you the option to message the company on Twitter, Facebook, or email to add 2FA if it currently does not have it.
On a final note: while adding 2FA is great for an extra layer of security on all your accounts, remember that you should be changing and updating your passwords regularly even with 2FA enabled, just to stay in tip-top shape. If that’s not your style, you can also use a password manager to automatically take care of it for you.
Update January 7th, 2021: This article was originally published on June 19th, 2017, and has been checked and updated several times so that the instructions for adding 2FA to these apps remain current. This is the latest update.
The Berlin police have warned their officers to be careful and cautious in private chats and chat groups. Disrespectful statements, even if they are meant jokingly, could lead to problems with the employer or even be punishable, the police wrote in an “employee information sheet on the use of private messenger services”. “The exchange in chat groups does not take place in a legal vacuum.” According to the police, the circular email comes from 29. December. The “Tagesspiegel” reported about it on Tuesday.
The police referred to the Civil Service Status Act, Paragraph 34, in which it says about civil servants: “Your behavior inside and outside the service must do justice to the respect and trust that your profession requires.” Therefore, individual distancing from problematic statements in group chats is difficult. “Silence can be interpreted as consent.” Statements made by individuals could affect all chat participants. In addition, a chat history could easily get to the public, “which can damage both the reputation of individuals and the entire Berlin police force”.
No baseless letter In the past few years several problematic incidents of chatting police officers became known. Since October a chat group of police officers with 26 members has been investigated because, according to the public prosecutor’s office, several participants had exchanged messages with racist content or swastikas.
The police management has also wanted to monitor private profiles and publications by police officers on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter for a long time. It’s about financial income, but also about the form of the performances. Some younger police officers post photos of themselves on Instagram. Pictures show her alone or with colleagues in uniform, other photos show her in the gym, with a bare torso or in a bikini. Some have several thousand followers, one policewoman reaches tens of thousands of fans with her numerous photos.
Lenovo has a new Yoga computer out, but it’s not a laptop — it’s the new Yoga AIO 7 desktop. But while it may look like a standard all-in-one desktop, like its more portable cousins, the Yoga AIO 7 does have a display trick up its sleeve: the entire screen can rotate around, transforming the 27-inch landscape monitor into a vertical form factor.
Of course, the ability to rotate a display isn’t a wholly new idea. Standalone desktop monitors have offered the feature for years, making it easier for users to display content that’s better suited to a taller panel like Twitter feeds, long documents, or TikTok videos. But it’s far rarer to see the concept on an all-in-one computer.
The idea is reminiscent of Samsung’s Sero TV from last year, a similarly rotating product that scaled up the idea to a full-sized 43-inch television in response to the popularity of vertical video formats from apps like Instagram and TikTok (which, in turn is directly due to the ubiquity of smartphones with video cameras). Lenovo seems aware of the potential for a vertical TV, promising a future software update that will effectively let the AIO 7 double as a full-fledged 4K smart TV.
As for the specs, the Yoga AIO 7 offers a choice between two 27-inch 4K panels (one regular and one that meets Adobe RGB and DCI-P3 color standards); a choice between AMD’s Ryzen 7 4800H and Ryzen 5 4500H CPUs; Nvidia’s integrated RTX 2060 GPU; either 16GB or 32GB of RAM; and a mix of PCIe and HDD storage options (topping out at a 1TB SSD and a 2TB hard drive, respectively).
Of particular note is how Lenovo is taking advantage of USB-C with the Yoga AIO 7. Plug in your laptop with a USB-C cable, and you’ll be able to use the Yoga AIO 7’s hardware — including the display, speakers, mouse and keyboard, power supply, and even the integrated hard drive — directly with your laptop.
The Yoga AIO 7 is already available in China (where its called the Yoga 27), but it’ll be out in “select markets” in February starting at $1,599.
“As part of the Facebook company, WhatsApp receives information from other Facebook companies and also shares information with other Facebook companies,” reads WhatsApp’s updated privacy policy. This must be approved within the framework of the new terms of use – no later than February 8th. So far it was possible to prohibit the transfer of the data. According to Facebook, the sharing of data naturally serves the security and integrity of all Facebook products. The aim is to take action against spam, threats, abuse and violations of rights.
In a further paragraph, however, it also says that the information will be shared to help operate, provide, improve, understand, customize, support, and market the Services. Facebook companies not only include the well-known social networks but also the VPN app Onavo, which is criticized for snooping, and the monitoring tool CrowdTangle.
Guidelines in a circle The reference to the new terms of use and data protection guidelines currently appears automatically when you open WhatsApp. First of all, there is only a brief summary that there are changes in data processing and Facebook-hosted services for businesses. You can “agree” or simply no longer use the messenger after the date of validity.
To find the changed passages, you have to click through some pages and links, which sometimes ends with being led in a circle. In order to process the data, one relies on “different legal bases”. This includes the need to provide services, after consent, but also when there is a legal obligation – for example after being requested by law enforcement authorities. Finally, it also says: “To the extent that it is necessary for our legitimate interests (as well as those of others), including our interests in providing innovative, relevant, secure and profitable services for our users and partners.”
Meanwhile, the US Trade Commission (FTC) is examining whether Facebook has prevented competition by buying WhatsApp and Instagram. Boss Mark Zuckerberg is said to have perceived the two services as a threat and therefore bought them.

Secret WhatsApp tips and tricks you might not know about
There are a few stand-out examples that offer instant messaging and video chat as well as numerous other features. Every app is available across multiple platforms, with the exception of Apple’s FaceTime that is restricted to Apple devices.
Our guide to the best video calling apps
Messenger
Best for Facebook devotees
Facebook recently worked to streamline Messenger, which has been separate from the main Facebook app for several years now. Messenger is used by many individuals and businesses for communication and you can even use it without a Facebook account.
You can video or voice chat with an individual or a group very easily. Need to know how to use it for video calling? Check out: How to video call on Facebook Messenger
Messenger also has recently announced Messenger Rooms, a way to join group video calls with up to 50 people – yes, it’s like Zoom or Skype.

WhatsApp
Best for small group calls – up to eight people
Facebook-owned WhatsApp may be second to Messenger in North America, but globally it is massive. As of early 2020 the app said it has over two billion users worldwide which is quite an incredible reach for an app that started as a paid-for premium offering.
WhatsApp’s strength is that it is easy to make new chats and search for messages in the past. You can also see when messages are received and read and it’s just great with pictures.
It can be used for video and voice calls. You can start a call with one individual and then add other participants easily. The limit on group video calls is now eight.

FaceTime
Best for Apple-to-Apple calls
We don’t know how many users FaceTime video has, but it’s massive between Apple users and you can easily flip back and forth between video and voice.
Of course, being Apple-only is a disadvantage not shared by any of the other apps here but it is available across both iOS and macOS.
As well as individual calls, you can now easily make a Group FaceTime call – if everyone you’re talking to is on an Apple device, it’s mega easy to sort out.

Zoom
Best for large group/workplace video conferencing (and for the tiled view)
Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to virtually meet with others – either by video or audio-only or both, all while conducting live chats – and it lets you record those sessions to view later.
A Zoom Meeting is a video conferencing meeting that’s hosted using Zoom while a Zoom Room is physical hardware that companies can install in meeting rooms.
What is Zoom and how does it work? Plus tips and tricks
One of the best features is the tiled view, so you can have everybody on screen at the same time – even if you have tens of participants.
If you want to know if you’re in good company when using Zoom, you are: over half of Fortune 500 companies reportedly used Zoom in 2019.

Google Meet
Best for G Suite (Google apps) users
While Google Duo (below) is more of a one-to-one solution, Google Meet is Google’s option for video calling and sits alongside Google Chat. It does have a separate app, but most people who use it are customers of Google’s G Suite, which is basically Gmail, Calendar and Docs but for business.
You can start meetings from Gmail or Google Calendar and you can video chat with individuals, conference or just text chat.
As of 4 May 2020, Google made Google Meet free to anyone with a Google account – this will last until the end of September 2020 at present.
What is Google Meet Chat, how do they work, and when can you use them?
Skype
Best for cross-device calling across PCs, Macs and mobile devices
Microsoft-owned Skype remains one of the most ubiquitous ways to make a video call and as such it’s a good option just because so many people have it. As well as PC and Mac, it’s also available for iOS and Android of course.
And you can even now access it via a web browser and also set up instant meetings with people who don’t have an account using Skype Meet Now. The group calling feature is also really powerful.
As in Zoom, you can also change your Skype background.
It also integrates nicely with Office 365 and if you use this for work you’ll be familiar with Skype for Business.

Slack
Best for perpetual office chat and one-to-one calling
Slack is a little different to the competition as it’s more of an open platform. It works as a central place for communication that pulls in third-party apps to make it work.
It’s meant for team communication – we use it here at Pocket-lint – and is a great way to share files (it also integrates with Google Drive or Dropbox). The free version enables you to make calls but only one-to-one; you need a paid subscription to call a group (and it’s expensive). It’s also been redesigned recently to make it easier to use.
Another great feature of Slack is its ability to search entire conversations for certain words so finding what’s been talked about is easy. The app is iOS and Android friendly and autocompletes friends’ names making tagging them simple.

Google Duo
A WhatsApp alternative for easy calling between devices
Relatively recently brought out by Google, Duo is free to use, enables one-to-one video and voice calls and it works across both iOS and Android devices – unlike Apple’s FaceTime. It’s primarily an app for consumers rather than business – Google Hangouts is Google’s work calling solution.
It relies on your number, lets you reach people in your phone’s contacts list, offers end-to-end encryption, and has nifty features like Knock Knock, which allows you see live video of your caller before you answer.

Viber
The best Skype alternative
Viber is a comprehensive alternative to Skype. It was primarily a service for calling directly between devices, but it now also has WhatsApp style chat and can be used to share files.
One of the great things about Viber is how widely available it is across platforms including Android, iOS, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, Windows 8, Mac and more. That means video calling across devices or chatting using IM with emoticons should be seamless and simple. Plus it’s all free.
WeChat
Another great Skype alternative
WeChat is being hailed as the one-stop-shop alternative to most communication apps. It’s like combining text, Skype, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram into one app.
WeChat enables you to share photos and videos directly with other users or they can be posted to their profile, like the Facebook wall. Another feature, called Shake, allows users to find others nearby to chat locally.
WeChat also allows voice chat, group chat, video chat and emoticon sharing. And it’s all free to download.

The South Korean giant invites you to the Galaxy Unpacked event, where we expect to see the presentation of the latest flagship smartphones of the Samsung Galaxy S series 21. This year’s edition of the line will most likely include the following models: Basic, Plus and Ultra. I must admit that Samsung chose the date of the event quite cleverly, trying to ensure that nothing “bigger” would overshadow the premiere, so important for the producer. The event is scheduled for 12 January 2021 of the year, the last day of CES. The graphics encouraging participation in the virtual event reveal the appearance of the camera, which simply confirms the current reports on its construction.
We know when exactly the new smartphones from the Samsung Galaxy S family will debut 21. The manufacturer invites you to another event from the Galaxy Unpacked series, where we will get to know this year’s flagships.
Samsung Galaxy S smartphone test 20 FE – cheaper, not worse
About Samsung Galaxy S 21, Galaxy S 21 + and Galaxy S 21 We already know quite a lot about the Ultra. The detailed appearance of the devices leaked to the network earlier, revealing the stylistic side of this year’s flagships. This, of course, is not all, as we have also managed to get to know the lion’s share of the technical specifications of smartphones. The individual versions differ from each other with the screens, batteries, cameras and dimensions used, while the common features are processors, a system with an overlay, communication modules, selfie cameras and biometric security. Prices should range from 840 to 1399 euro.
Samsung Galaxy S Test 20 +: exemplary smartphone. Is it enough?
An event where Samsung will talk about new models will be held 14 January, i.e. the next Thursday at 16: 00 Polish time. The event will be broadcast via the giant’s social channels, while the deduction took the form of an “AR app” on Facebook and Instagram. The animation, which is also an invitation to the event, reveals a blurry module of the main camera, which strongly refers to the graphics from the leaks. Below we present a detailed specification of Samsung Galaxy S models 20 and Galaxy S 21 +. The ultra variant will receive a 6.8-inch LTPO display with WQHD + resolution with adaptive image refresh 120 Hz and a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh.

Facebook looks back with delight at the turn of the year. Especially for the New Year, people would have used the company’s apps to get rid of good wishes and greetings. The numbers for Whatsapp, the Messenger app, Facebook and Instagram increased significantly compared to the previous year. The enormous increase is related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Doubling of usage As the company announces, more than 1.4 billion video calls and simple audio calls are said to have been made via WhatsApp for the New Year. This represents a new record for the app. Compared to the turn of the year from 2019 to 2020 use more than doubled.
The in-house messenger app, which was developed in conjunction with Facebook, is said to have been used with many effects at the same time. In the USA, the augmented reality effect “2020 Fireworks” was particularly popular. In addition, New Years Eve 2020 was the most successful day so far for messenger group video calls in the USA. These video calls typically involve more than three people speaking to each other at the same time. Here there was almost a doubling of calls compared to everyday use.
Via Facebook’s large platforms, Facebook and Instagram, users also had more than 55 Millions of live switches denied the New Year’s Eve.
Proximity despite Corona The large increase in usage figures is likely to be due to the coronavirus pandemic and a number of lockdown measures in various countries. Many people were encouraged to reduce their contacts at the turn of the year in order to slow down the spread of SARS-CoV-2. This is how Facebook interprets the numbers.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, far more people had met virtually over the course of the year 2020 and exchanged in order to still be able to continue exchanging information in times of contact restrictions. This was also clearly shown in the company’s statistics. The numbers for video calls and other calls would have broken earlier New Year’s records in the spring. In order not to have to accept any failures of the apps at the turn of the year from 2020 to 2021, Facebook has taken appropriate precautions .
An iOS app called Vybe Together that promoted private parties during the COVID-19 pandemic has been removed from the Apple App Store, had its account on TikTok banned, and scrubbed most of its online presence. The app’s creators told The Verge that Apple was the one to take it off the App Store.
Vybe Together billed itself on TikTok and its website as a place to organize and attend underground parties, using the tagline “Get your rebel on. Get your party on.” Organizers would have to approve everyone who wanted to attend, and the ones that got approved would receive the address two hours before the event. Most of these gatherings would have been illegal under current US pandemic restrictions — which may explain why the app required you to submit a profile for approval before you were allowed on.
Calling a phone number on Vybe Together’s site connected The Verge with someone who identified themselves as Albin, one of the app’s co-founders. They said that the app had a few thousand users, and that a few thousand additional applicants had requested access to it since the company started putting videos on TikTok. Applying involved submitting your Instagram handle and uploading pictures of you partying to the service, presumably to make sure that you weren’t someone who was going to spill the beans about the events.
Vybe Together largely had a low profile before today, although it was mentioned in at least one EventBrite invitation to a New York party in September. It received wider exposure after The New York Times reporter Taylor Lorenz critically tweeted screenshots of the website and described it as an app for “finding and promoting COVID-unsafe large, indoor house parties.”
Vybe Together’s now-removed FAQ page acknowledged the danger of the pandemic, but it said the app was designed to promote “small gatherings” rather than “big parties.” (Smaller gatherings of people from different households can still spread the coronavirus, creating chains of infection that extend far beyond the original event, putting people who didn’t attend the party at risk.)
It’s unknown whether the app substantially contributed to people holding unsafe events, although it promoted “gatherings every weekend” — including an upcoming New Year’s Eve party — in a TikTok video. The Vybe Together app had only 25 ratings before being removed, and its Instagram page has under 1,000 followers. In a statement to The Verge, TikTok said the account on that platform had only 139 followers when it was removed. The app appears to have launched previously under the name Trendies, a name mentioned on its now largely empty Instagram page.
Vybe Together’s website also advertised a “Vybe House” for the 2021 Zamna Festival music event in Tulum, Mexico. The house’s pictures correspond to an Airbnb listing for a rental called the Casa Remy Villa. However, the listing’s manager couldn’t confirm the existence of a “Vybe House” event to The Verge. “We have rented the villa to some influencers,” said the owner, who had “no idea” if any renters were linked to the app. “But they know parties aren’t allowed of any kind as they are forbidden by authorities during [the] pandemic, with the risk of shutting down the property and a huge fine.” The Airbnb host also notes that the Zamna festival was recently postponed to April — not the January dates listed on its website.
Vybe Together’s Instagram account now contains a single text post. “Blown out of proportion by media,” it reads. “We DO NOT CONDONE LARGE GATHERINGS.”
Update December 29, 8:06 ET: The app’s creators have now clarified that Apple was the one to pull the app from the App Store.
