Oppo has announced the Reno5 Pro + smartphone, the highest-end model in the family with a Snapdragon 865 and FHD + screen of 500 nits.
Oppo already has on the market the new range of latest generation smartphones, in total there are three models that have been filtering for a while and two of which (the lower) were already presented a couple of weeks ago. Today it was the turn of the highest-end, the Oppo Reno5 Pro + . This smartphone comes on a 6 OLED screen. 55 “with resolution FHD + and a refresh rate of 90 Hz . The remarkable thing about this model is that its screen reaches nothing less than 1100 peak nits , which enables it to be used perfectly in highly luminous environments and, in addition, to have compatibility with content HDR . Normal will work to 500 nits. The touch panel maintains a frequency of 180 Hz and the fingerprint sensor is integrated into the screen.
Finally, and as it seemed to come, the chosen SoC has been the Snapdragon 865 with variants of 8 / 128 GB or 13 / 256 GB , both options with storage UFS 3.1 without possibility to card microSD .
The photographic part of the Oppo Reno5 Pro + comes in charge of 4 rear sensors , one of them periscope . The main one is the Sony IMX 766 of 50 MP f / 1.8 , the wide angle of 13 MP f / 2.2, a telephoto lens of 13 MP f / 2.4 (they haven’t said anything about the magnification) and a last 2 MP f / 2.4 sensor for macrophotography. The front panel holds another camera from 50 MP.
The battery of the Oppo Reno5 Pro + is 4500 mAh with fast charge of 65 W of the manufacturer, called SuperVOOC 2.0. It also supports reverse charging, but they haven’t mentioned anything about wireless charging. Will come with Android 11 on the ColorOS customization layer 11, being able to book from 18 from January of 2021 and sales began on 22 from January. The prices, at direct exchange, are the following:

Until the end of 2020 we only have a few days left. This is the right time for all sorts of summaries that we treat our readers with. It is also a time when we reflect on what the 2021 year will bring. As I am responsible for the section of broadly understood mobile technology at PurePC, I want to discuss the three most important upcoming trends that we will face in the coming 12 months. Among them there will be cameras mounted under displays, rolled screens in smartphones, and the issue of increasingly modest sales sets, in which you will not find even basic, even necessary accessories such as a mains charger.
Are you wondering what the most important trends in the world of mobile technologies will be in 2021? I invite you to a small overview of the changes that you should mentally prepare for.
The first thing to expect 2021 of the year are selfie cameras integrated with the screen. Smartphone manufacturers have been looking for a subtle method of hiding the photo module for years. The old notch has been replaced by small indentations and mechanisms that slide out of the casing, but the best is yet to come. The imperceptible camera under the screen should hit at least a few next year’s flagships. At the moment, only ZTE Axon 20 5G can boast of the presence of this solution, which, surprisingly, has been valued at the equivalent 2030 PLN
The second trend that is mentioned more and more often is rolled displays. LG and OPPO are already working on this technology, but other manufacturers are also interested in it. I think that the first devices that use a specific development of foldable displays will be introduced to smartphones next year. I bet, however, that these will be delicate structures susceptible to mechanical damage. The beginnings of folding smartphones were similar. Probably everyone remembers the “scandal” related to the Samsung Galaxy Fold model, which was failing in the hands of the first testers.
The latest trend that will certainly be standard on 2021, there is a limitation in the number of accessories in smartphone sales kits. When there was no charger in the boxes with the iPhones of the series 12, the network boiled up, and the indignation was endless. The company was accused of being stingy, but everything indicates that the chargers will not be attached to the new Samsung Galaxy S 21 and devices from the Xiaomi Mi line 11. I believe this is just the beginning, and the year 2021 will bring even more changes in this respect. I will not be surprised if the cables with appropriate plugs are the only “additions” to the sets. Nevertheless, I’d like to be wrong.
During the last OPPO INNO Day event 2020, the manufacturer presented to the world the vision of the OPPO X smartphone 2021, which uses a rolling display design. This is an innovative development of flexible, foldable screens that has not yet been used by the creators of mobile devices. The above-mentioned equipment is only a concept, just like OPPO X Nendo – a sliding phone based on three hinges. What distinguishes them from the eponymous OPPO X Tom Ford? Well, the latter has a chance to be sold on a regular basis, or at least as indicated by the source. The Let’s Go Digital website has prepared detailed renderings, thanks to which we can check what the equipment will most likely look like.
Photo. Let’s Go Digital
This is not the first information about the slider from OPPO, but only new information allowed for the development of detailed renderings revealing the appearance of the device. As it is easy to see, it will use a rolling screen, which is the solution that the producer talked about during the last INNO Day event 2020. This type of design allows you to increase the working space of a truly compact smartphone by about 80 percent, which in my opinion is much better than what they offer Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola razr.
Photo. Let’s Go Digital
If you look closely at Let’s Go Digital renderings, you will see a lot of stylistic flavors that give the device its character. We are talking about golden inserts, elements of fabric (or material imitating it) and a camera panel that aims at retro style. Tom Ford is responsible for the aforementioned additions, who most likely cooperates with the company in creating the OPPO smartphone. The name of a well-known American fashion designer found its way into the back of the device, which can be clearly perceived. Manufacturers who want to emphasize the importance of one of the models often use designers for this purpose.

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer Oppo has recently shown several innovative design concepts. It started with the Oppo X 2021, a rollable smartphone with a pull-out display, which was presented during INNO Day 2020. Earlier this month, the company also showed a futuristic slide phone with three hinges and a retractable screen, called the Oppo X Nendo. What can we expect from this progressive manufacturer in the coming period?
LetsGoDigital has managed to get their hands on new documentation of a very unique Oppo slider smartphone with a rollable display. The documentation contains official images, including accompanying wallpaper, of an as yet unannounced Oppo smartphone. The rear side of this rollable smartphone includes a logo that unveils this device has been designed in collaboration with the world famous fashion designer Tom Ford.
It’s a very stylish smartphone with a triple camera and a leather back panel combined with woven fabric and a wood texture. On the rear of the device is stated: ‘Oppo X Tom Ford – Design for concept Shakira’.

After unveiling the Reno5 and Reno5 Pro earlier this month, Oppo just gave the Reno5 Pro+ its own event probably because it shapes up to be a proper flagship. In other words – it checks all the boxes, although, given the amount of leaks from the past couple of weeks, it’s no surprise.
The handset is built around the 6.55-inch AMOLED panel with 1080 x 2400px resolution (tall, 20:9 aspect ratio) and supports up to 90Hz refresh rate. The touch sampling rate is also a bit higher than the average at 180Hz. Arguably more important is the fact that the display can peak at 1,100 nits of brightness. But we don’t know if Oppo has measured this on a small patch in the center of the display or on the whole panel. Either way, it’s rather impressive.
All the pixels are driven by a Snapdragon 865 SoC with either 8 or 12GB of RAM paired with 128 or 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage, respectively. No microSD card support.
The camera setup is equally competent. Sony’s brand new 50MP IMX766 (1/1.56″ in size) sensor is doing the heavy lifting on the back with f/1.8 aperture lens and OIS. The telephoto unit is 13MP using an f/2.4 aperture, but to our surprise, there’s no info on the zoom. We bet on 3x magnification, but will update the article once we know for sure.
As for the other two cameras on the back, there’s the usual 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide unit and a 2MP f/2.4 snapper for macros, whereas the front panel accommodates the 32MP, f/2.4 selfie camera.
Battery life should be solid given the 4,500 mAh capacity while charging is also going to be blazing fast thanks to Oppo’s SuperVOOC 2.0 65W charging. Reverse wired charging is also supported by the handset.
Other notable features include Android 11 with ColorOS 11 out of the box, all-premium glass and aluminum build, stereo loudspeakers with Dolby Atmos tuning, a color spectrum sensor and a fast under-display fingerprint reader.
For now, the device will be made available only in China and pre-orders will start on January 18 while actual sales will begin on January 22. The entry-level 8GB/128GB iteration will sell for CNY 3,999 (~$610), while the beefier 12GB/256GB version will ask CNY 4,499 (~$690). The available colors are Black and Blue. A limited edition version designed in collaboration with Joshua Vides will be available and will go on sale for the same price as the 12GB/256GB model.

by Lorenzo Tirotta published 24 December 2020 , at 10: 31 in the Telephony channel
Xiaomi Snapdragon
After the event that led to the official presentation of the latest home SoC Qualcomm, Xiaomi confirmed, together with OPPO and realme, to be ready to launch new smartphones with Snapdragon 888 on board. The first device to mount the powerful processor will be the Xiaomi Mi 11, expected by many users and enthusiasts who today received the surprise news they were waiting for. There have been many rumors that, in the last weeks, they revealed some of the main specifications and images of the device, yet to be confirmed.
The news arrived on the Chinese social media platform Weibo , where the co-founder of the company Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi Mi 11 will be presented on 28 December at 19: 30 .
What we expect is a top of the range and, according to the latest rumors, Xiaomi Mi 11 will feature a resolution display QHD + at an update rate up to 120 Hz along with several display features. Needless to say, the strong point will be characterized by the Snapdragon 888 . Xiaomi Mi 01 will have more powerful Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with the 4K QAM module .
Today the official results of the first benchmarks tested on GeekBench . Xiaomi Mi’s single-core score 11 and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro, powered by Snapdragon 888, is from 1. 135 while the result multi-core is 3. 818 . According to the numbers made, the new chipset is faster than the Kirin 9000 and its predecessor Snapdragon 865.
Other technical characteristics have not yet been confirmed by the company, as well as the launch price. The latest rumors leaked a few hours ago speak of figures around CNY 4. 800 for the version 8 / 256 GB , approximately 600 EUR.

From just under 20 Euro it starts .
Sensible headphones belong for the most athletes basic equipment. Those who are not currently doing a team sport want to have some peace and quiet while training. It goes so far that you want to be isolated from the rest of the athletes in order to concentrate on your own routine. Good headphones are tools for bringing the music from the smartphone or another player to the ear reliably and in good quality. And they differ from “normal” headphones in terms of construction. The devices for athletes have to be stable in the ear, even with jerky movements. And they should be protected against sweat or splash water.
In recent years, we have tested numerous sports headphones in a wide variety of price ranges and designs in our sports headphones theme. This ranges from classic Bluetooth headphones such as the Soundbuds Flow from Anker (test report) to the Bose Frames Tempo (test report) to the JBL Reflect Flow (test report). In this comparison test, we show which functions good sports headphones have to fulfill and why the sound is good even with inexpensive devices. To do this, we choose our current test winners, show inexpensive alternatives and present alternative concepts.
Design type Sports headphones are now mostly available as in-ear devices. They sit directly in the ear, usually held in place by special silicone wings. Compared to other designs such as over-ear or on-ear, in-ears have the advantage that you don’t sweat under the headphones. However, there are many who find the plugs uncomfortable. One option is, for example, to hold devices such as Airpods on the ear with a special silicone clip. More about this in our guide The most important accessories for Apple Airpods.
In addition to the classic forms, there are always experiments. Aftershokz is known. The company uses vibrations to transmit the sound via the skull bone into the inner ear. This works well and leaves the ears free, but the sound quality suffers especially with podcasts or audio books, as we show in the test for the Aftershokz Trekz Air (test report). The frames series from Bose relies on sunglasses with speakers in the ear hooks. This works very well with the Bose Frames Tempo sports glasses (test report).
At the same time, the advantage and disadvantage of in-ear headphones is that they are sealed off from the outside world. The JBL Reflect Flow (test report) are a good example of this. They sit so tightly in your ear that it’s easy to forget the world around you. This is great when training in a safe environment, such as bouldering or jogging in a secluded area. However, it is a problem when you are out and about in traffic. If you cycle on or next to the road, you have to be aware of the traffic around you. Yes, you can activate an ambient mode in devices such as the Reflect Flow and other in-ears, then the noises are passed through from the outside. That sounds very artificial, however. Devices such as the Bose Sport Earbuds (test report) have a better balance, but do not seal off the user so blatantly during exercise.
Comparison test sports headphones (6 pictures) The Reflect Flow from JBL are our first test winners for everyone who completely from sports want to be isolated from the outside world.
For the single test
Protection against sweat and water All headphones for Athletes should be protected against water. It is less about swimming or diving with them. Rather, it is about protection against sweat and the possibility of briefly rinsing the equipment under running water.
The protection against water is easiest to read from the IP protection class. The rule of thumb is: the higher the IPXX number, the better the headphones are protected against water. The table shows what the individual numbers mean. Our tip is that the headphones should have at least IPX2.
IPXX protection classes 1st digit Protection against contact / foreign bodies 2nd digit Protection against water 0 unprotected 0 unprotected 1 Protection against foreign bodies> 50 mm / protection against contact with the back of the hand 1 Protection against Dripping water 2 Protection against foreign bodies> 12 mm / protection against contact with the finger 2 Protection against dripping water 2.5 mm / protection against contact with tools 3 Protection against spray water 4 Protection against foreign bodies> 1 mm / protection against contact with wire 4 Protection against splash water 5 Protection against dust / protection against Touches 5 Protection against en water jets 6 dust-proof, protection against contact 6 Protection against heavy water jets 7 Protection against temporary immersion 8th Protection against permanent immersion Source: Heise.de True Wireless or Electric wire? In the last version of our comparison of sports headphones in 2018 the classic Bluetooth headphones with cables between the speakers dominated. Since then, this design has had massive competition from the true wireless approach. The headphones no longer have cables, they connect to each other and to the playback device, such as a smartphone, via Bluetooth. This technology has developed massively in recent years. Where in the past there were sometimes large audio delays, for example in movies or games, the sound can now be heard without latency. The battery life has also improved enormously. The big advantage of the in-ears is their charging cradle. With classic Bluetooth headphones, it happens again and again that they are empty when you need them. True wireless devices, on the other hand, are usually in the charging cradle and thus always have enough charge to be used for a sports session.
Sound The good news: The sound of most sports headphones, including cheap devices such as the RF-BTK – 300 by Renkforce (test report) or the Anker Soundbuds Flow (test report) is now so good that it can be used for sports without any problems. In particular, the cheap devices tend to have a strong to excessive bass. The formula expensive = good sound has long ceased to apply.
With the classic audio brands you can tell that the nuances are sometimes better. In addition, Bose or Jabra, for example, often rely on AAC as an additional codec for the transmission of lossless content. This is often lacking in cheaper headphones. If you value such content in sports, you should adjust your selection accordingly. The inexpensive headphones are also good for streaming Spotify & Co or for podcasts. We write more about the sound of the respective headphones in the linked individual tests.
Test winner and recommendations Our test winners are the Bose Sport Earbuds (test report) and the JBL Reflect Flow (test report). Both sports headphones offer a well-balanced sound, sit firmly in the ear and have enough battery power to endure even longer sports sessions. They are also both comfortable to wear. We recommend the JBL Reflect Flow to everyone who wants to completely isolate themselves during sport. They are one of the few headphones that really deserve the title “Passive Noise Cancellation”. The Bose Sport Earbuds allow more surroundings to pass through without affecting the sound quality. A good third alternative are the Jabra Active 64 t (test report ). We liked the fact that they are easy to use, are well protected against water and sweat and offer great additional features. The price has now leveled off in reasonable regions.
Among the price-performance winners, we mainly see the cheap Anker Soundbuds Flow headphones (test report) and the Renkforce RF-BTK 300 (Review). Both are protected against water (IPX4 and IPX5), well made and magnetically adhere to each other. So you can click them together in front of your body when you don’t have them in your ears.
The special mention goes to the Bose Frames Tempo (review). As with the Aftershokz Trekz Air (test report), the ears remain completely free, so you can easily see the surroundings. But the sound of the Tempo frames is significantly better than that of the bone conduction headphones. Especially with speech, such as audio books, podcasts or audio announcements from the navigation system, you can hear the tempo better with the frames. The disadvantage of the Tempo frames, however, is that they cannot be used just like that. Despite good sound and low latency, you just look stupid when you stream Netflix with it.
Conclusion Anyone who has ever got stuck with the headphone cable while doing sports knows why you should only rely on Bluetooth headphones. The good news is that the cheap devices from Anker or Renkforce in particular also deliver decent sound. For scarce 20 Euro is already available good wireless headsets.
If you want to spend more, you should use a true wireless system. Not only does not a cable get tangled in the bag, thanks to the transport box with battery, the headphones are in most cases so charged that you have enough juice for exercise.
We show even more on the subject of headphones in our individual tests in the subject world of true wireless headphones. Here, too, you can clearly see how prices have been falling in recent years. A suitable guide to this is true wireless headphones under 90 Euro in the comparison test , the guide to true wireless noise-canceling headphones, or the article on the cheapest true wireless headphones.
If you want to track your training progress properly in addition to headphones, we recommend a look at our sports watch or our tested fitness tracker.

(Pocket-lint) – Choosing a new smartphone isn’t as simple as it used to be. They come in lots of different sizes, with plenty of different features and, critically, at plenty of different price points.
For some the camera is important, for others it will be battery life, or perhaps biometric login. These days it isn’t just the very best flagship smartphones that offer these features though. There’s another breed of smartphones – the mid-rangers – that offer great specs at a lower price.
Here we’ve rounded up the best devices that sit between the £/€/$200-400 mark – yes our European and American readers, we have you covered – as fully reviewed here on Pocket-lint. Want something even cheaper? Then check our best budget phones feature.

The Google Pixel 4a has a clean and smooth software interface, coupled with the excellent Pixel camera, offering a great point-and-shoot experience.
The Pixel 4a offers plenty of power, a great display, a compact form and some great speakers. It might be too small for some and it doesn’t have the latest hardware, but for those looking for a compact phone we can’t really see why you’d need to look any further.

The OnePlus Nord is an excellent mid-range device. It offers a large display, 90Hz refresh rates, 5G connectivity and a great battery life.
There are more cameras than there need to be, it’s not available everywhere and the edges are a little plasticky, but what OnePlus has quite expertly done is make a phone that doesn’t leave you pining for a greater experience.
squirrel_widget_3693285
The OnePlus Nord N10 5G is a great Android device for the markets where the Nord (above) doesn’t exist.
It offers an affordable price point, smooth and reliable performance, physical fingerprint sensor and headphone jack and it comes with expandable storage.
The camera isn’t the best and the original Nord is better in most departments, but in the markets where this device is the only Nord-branded phone, it’s a well-priced, affordable Android device with few major negatives.
squirrel_widget_168098
The Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro is a fabulous phone for its price. It has huge amounts of performance, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a solid battery and a lovely OLED display too, not to mention decent camera performance for the most part.
The MIUI software might put some off, low light camera performance isn’t brilliant and it has a fairly chunky build with no water or dust resistance, but this device has unrivalled spec for its price. In fact, it’s quite simply bonkers this phone sells for the money it does.
squirrel_widget_281310
The Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite offers class-leading spec for its price, a smooth experience, great OLED display and a decent battery life, as well as very capable main camera.
The quad cameras is an oversell, there’s some software bloat and the notch looks a little dated but as the market hots up to deliver a more affordable 5G phone, this Xiaomi offering is high up the scale.
squirrel_widget_273397
The Motorola Moto G 5G Plus isn’t just a great phone because it offers 5G future proofing. It’s a great phone for all it offers, from the excellent battery life, the big screen experience, power and super smooth hardware.
It is a little plasticky, the cameras are an oversell and there is no in-display fingerprint sensor, but otherwise there’s little within this class that can touch this Moto.
squirrel_widget_184710
This phone is all about battery life – that’s why it has ‘Power’ in its name. It lasts for an absolute age, comes in at the lower end of our budget, and is a surprisingly smooth handler too.
At this price point you won’t get the best cameras going, but if you want longevity and as little outlay as possible then it’s simply superb.
squirrel_widget_168674
The Oppo Reno 2 Z has a clear and crisp display, a premium look and feel and a great battery life. It isn’t a flagship phone, but it gets you most of the way there for an astonishingly good price.
The finish is a little slippery and the low light images aren’t as good as the Google Pixel 4a, but the Oppo Reno 2 Z offers super fast-charging and you get an awful lot for your money, making it easily recommendable.
squirrel_widget_168802
The Motorola Moto G8 Plus has a refined design over its predecessor with a graduated rear, a great price proposition, a responsive fingerprint sensor and an excellent battery life.
It’s camera is a little basic, albeit capable, and there is some serious competition in this market, but the Moto G8 Plus offers ample performance for its price and its problems are few and far between.
squirrel_widget_171252
One of the last Huawei-made phones to come with Google Services – so no limits to access there – the 9X is one of the unsung hereos on this list in many respects.
The absence of a notch on that large screen, the eye-catching reflective design, and great battery life all make for a solid handset. However, the processor isn’t a bump over last year’s and the cameras aren’t all that. At this price, though, it’s a strong contender.
squirrel_widget_264382
The Motorola Moto G Pro offers a stylus without the typical associated cost, a clean software experience, good battery innings, ample power and a capable main camera.
There are no decent palm rejection or pressure levels for the stylus and the additional cameras are of limited worth, but if you’re looking for a stylus in a phone and all the functionality that brings, but don’t have a big budget, the Moto G Pro is just the ticket.
squirrel_widget_233718
Samsung’s flagship phones might steal the limelight, but it’s also been putting out really solid mid-range handsets this whole time, with its A series the most interesting. The A51 is the latest lower-priced star, and we’re suitably impressed. Perhaps its most impressive aspects are in design, where you could honestly be fooled into thinking it’s a premium handset.
The display is great, and while you might not have loads of power under the hood it’ll do nicely for most people. Battery life is also solid, and an under-display fingerprint scanner works well for unlocking. You even get a quad-camera setup to make sure that you can play with the big boys while shooting.

The CEO of OnePlus said the brand will launch a smartwatch on the market, and it will do so at the beginning next year. We don’t have exact dates, but we are sure that this time the first OnePlus branded smartwatch will really arrive

OnePlus
OnePlus is a constantly evolving brand. In the last period it is broadening its horizons with the creation of a economic series NORD , a line of wireless headphones and also by TV , without forgetting the iconic high-end OnePlus smartphones. The news doesn’t seem to end there, the co-founder and CEO of the company Pete Lau , through a post on Twitter announced the launch of the first smartwatch of the brand expected for the start of 2021 .
We have no further details on the operating system it will adopt and the selling price, but they will be revealed soon. Some rumors confirm that OnePlus is already working with Google to improve the operating system Wear OS , but this does not mean that it will be adopted on the new OnePlus smartwatch even if it remains an accredited hypothesis.
The idea of making a OnePlus smartwatch isn’t entirely new. The company had already designed a smartwatch years ago and it was very close to launch, subsequently discarded for corporate decisions.
OnePlus, follows in the footsteps of OPPO which, earlier this year launched its new smartwatch. Some rumors speak of a circular dial design similar to OPPO and vivo Swatch. As we know OnePlus was born from a rib of OPPO, and together they share the owner, the Chinese multinational BBK Electronics .
Oppo mentioned the December 24 launch date for the Reno5 Pro+ 5G smartphone two weeks ago, but today we learned there will be a proper announcement with an event. It is scheduled for tomorrow at 15:30 local time in China (that’s 07:30 GMT).

The Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G has leaked multiple times, and combined with all the teasers the company posted tomorrow’s unveiling will hardly hold many surprises. The new phone will have a Snapdragon 865 chipset and the world’s first 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor.
The Reno5 Pro+ 5G will have four cameras, one of them being a 13MP periscope shooter with 5x optical zoom, and there are four LED flashes as well on the back. On the front, we expect a 6.55” AMOLED with a 90Hz refresh rate and a single punch hole for the selfie shooter.
The last unknowns are going to be revealed tomorrow – pricing and availability.

OnePlus will finally be making a smartwatch in 2021, CEO Pete Lau has announced on Twitter, marking the first foray into wearable devices for the smartphone company. There’s not many details yet on the upcoming device, including what smartwatch OS it’ll run, a price, or even a firm release date — Lau only notes that it’ll be “released early next year.”
The idea of a OnePlus smartwatch isn’t a new one; the company had reportedly designed a Wear OS (then still called Android Wear) smartwatch a few years ago. OnePlus ultimately nixed that product, though” “We had completed the design but we still decided to scrap it,” Lau said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “We have to be focused.”
Many of you said you wanted a watch, and as you might have heard over the weekend—we’re making one, to be released early next year. Wishes do come true. https://t.co/H1Fqv9srXj

OnePlus has started to branch out beyond phones in recent years, though: in addition to its high-end smartphone lineup each year, the company now makes an array of headphones, a budget line of Nord phones, and even smart TVs.
The launch of a OnePlus smartwatch in 2021 — the first from the company — also comes hot on the heels of the release of the Oppo Watch earlier this year, which was similar the first-ever smartwatch that Oppo had made. Given that there’s been no shortage of similarities in the past between Oppo and OnePlus products (the two companies share an owner, the massive conglomerate BBK Electronics), it’s possible that the upcoming OnePlus watch may take some cues from the existing Oppo Watch.
The Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G is two days away from its December 24 announcement, but we can dispel with most of the remaining mystery. The phone was handled on video, showing the glittering finish on its rear panel (RenoGlow 2.0), and listed on JD.com with images and memory options.
First the hands-on. It shows the special textured finish in black with the Reno Glow inscription. There will also be a Blue-ish variant.
The listing on JD.com promises to start taking orders on December 24 at 15:30 CST. The listed price is CNY 9,999, but that’s a place holder. There are two variants – 8/128GB and 12/256GB, which then come in two colors Black and Blue in RenoGlow finish.
We’ve known the key specs of the Oppo Reno5 Pro+ 5G for awhile. It will have a 6.55-inch AMOLED of 90Hz refresh rate, a Snapdragon 865 chipset, Sony’s premiering IMX766 50MP sensor and 65W charging. We also expect a 13MP telephoto camera, 16MP ultrawide unit and a 32MP selfie snapper.

Many said Apple was late to the “5G” party. Even if that were true, it must be admitted that the company took a bang. Despite the fact that the giant from Cupertino introduces the solution as the last of the most important technological companies, the iPhone smartphone 12 took the first place on the list of the most popular devices with a 5G modem. Interestingly, the second position also belongs to the “twelve”, but with the note Pro in the name. Not all Apple phones are doing this well. It turns out that the iPhone 12 mini was defeated in this matter by devices from Samsung, Huawei and OPPO. This device is not very popular. Let’s take a look at the hard data.
The most frequently chosen smartphone with a 5G modem in October was the Apple iPhone 12. To be precise, it covers the period from January to the end of October 2020 of the year. Apple iPhone 12 took the next position in the statistics provided by Couterpoint Resources. Considering that the sale of the devices began in mid-October, we are talking about a huge success. The list includes smartphones that have been available in stores for many months. Despite this, the “twelve” hold a total 24 percent. market. According to analysts’ expectations, the increased demand for smartphones from the Cupertino giant will most likely continue until the end of the year. The holiday season favors the interest in news.
What is the next list? The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra did quite well with a result of 4 percent. market, Huawei Nova 7 5G (3%), Huawei P 40 5G (3%), OPPO A 72 5G (3%) and Huawei P 40 Pro 5G (3%) Fares slightly worse – Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G (2%), Samsung Galaxy S 20 Plus 5G (2 percent) and OPPO Reno4 SE (2 percent). The popularity of iPhones 12 is influenced not only by the presence of the 5G modem, which is something new in the Apple world. Their refreshed appearance probably plays an important role here. The manufacturer returned, although only partially, to the style known from the 4 and 5 models, for which most of the company’s customers missed.

Last week OPPO managed to surprise the tech world with two special concept products. Via Twitter, the smartphone manufacturer showed a futuristic “slide phone” as well as a “music link”, both of which are created in collaboration with the Japanese design studio nendo. The so-called slide phone is a foldable device with three hinges and a stylus pen. Music link is a collection of devices, in which the True Wireless Stereo earbuds play a central role. It is a smartwatch, an AI speaker, a wired charger and a wireless charger, which all work together seamlessly.
It is not the first time that OPPO shows a concept smartphone, less than a month ago, the smartphone manufacturer unexpectedly demonstrated the Oppo X 2021 during INNO Day 2020 – an extendable smartphone with a rollable display.
LetsGoDigital has had the opportunity to interview Harrison Chen, General Manager of OPPO Benelux AED (The Benelux area includes The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. ‘AED’ stands for Authorized Exclusive Distributor). We wondered, among other things, what OPPO’s goal is with these concept products and whether these futuristic devices will actually be brought to market. The following Q&A provides more insight into OPPO’s thinking regarding these new concept devices and future IoT products.
Question 1: Why did OPPO decide to collaborate with nendo?
Answer: “The cooperation between OPPO and nendo is based on a mutual appreciation for each other’s brand and a shared vision of qualitative and innovative designs. OPPO believes that technology should be both innovative and comfortable for people to use. The Japanese design studio nendo and founder Sato Oki shares the vision to inspire users in everyday life in a fun and surprising way.”
Question 2: Why did OPPO decide to collaborate on ‘slide phone’ and ‘music link’ rather than other concept designs? What does OPPO try to express through these concept designs?
Answer: “Based on our shared vision for design philosophy, OPPO and nendo have joined forces to explore and investigate users’ need for a smartphone with a larger screen and better portability, bringing forth the “slide-phone”.
Besides, a seamless experience is one of the most important user needs in the Internet of Things (IoT) era. With this thought in mind, the “music link” was born to provide users with a seamless connecting and an extremely user-friendly operating experience. The integration of technology and human-centricity reflects OPPO’s design philosophy.”
Question 3: What is OPPO’s design philosophy?
Answer: “OPPO is always striving to provide more users with advanced technology with an aesthetic design. These concept designs are OPPO’s latest exploration into more possibilities on the integrating of technology and aesthetics.”
Question 4: Is there a commercial plan for the OPPO x nendo concept designs?
Answer: “OPPO uses technology to empower people to capture the beauty around them and to unleash their imagination of the future, thereby helping everyone to get the best out of life. Currently, these conceptual designs are intended to showcase OPPO’s ideas about the integration of technology, in an aesthetic form that connects and enriches daily life. By the collaboration with nendo, OPPO hopes to inspire the team to provoke ideas for future product designs and the new user capabilities that comes with it.”
Question 5: Are there any plans for OPPO and nendo to collaborate in designing commercial products?
Answer: “The cooperation between OPPO and nendo / Oki Sato has been very exciting and innovative and has made us think about future possibilities. We will keep you informed if there are any follow-up plans.”
Question 6: There is an AI smart speaker included in ‘music-link’. Does this mean OPPO will release an AI smart speaker?
Answer: “In addition to the OPPO Watch, Enco Free earbuds, 5G CPE and other products that have been released this year, OPPO is actively expanding its IoT product portfolio for the global market. More products will be introduced in the future. You will hear more about this next year. ”
We thank mr. Chen for the time he has taken to answer our questions. Although we have unfortunately received no confirmation as to whether the OPPO x nendo will ever be released, it is clear that OPPO intends to continue to expand its product portfolio in the future with innovative products, where usage and design go hand in hand.
Last month, independent market agency International Data Corporation (IDC) announced that OPPO is the fastest growing smartphone manufacturer in Europe in 2020, with a year-on-year growth of more than 560%. We are therefore very curious about what OPPO will come up with in 2021. If we are to believe the rumors, the company will release its first foldable smartphone in the second half of 2021. However, details about this device are still scarce.
Below a YouTube video published by OPPO about the new music link.

Earlier this month Oppo announced its Reno5 series though the ultimate Reno5 Pro+ was only teased. We know the handset is scheduled to get its own announcement ceremony on December 24 and now we have a few more details thanks to Oppo’s official Weibo page.
Oppo Reno5 Pro+ posters
The Reno5 Pro+ is officially confirmed to pack Sony’s all-new IMX766 sensor. This would be the first time seeing a device with this specific sensor though we don’t have its full specifications just yet. In addition to the main 50MP shooter, we should see a 16MP ultrawide snapper, a 13MP telephoto module and a 2MP depth helper.
A recent TENAA listing confirming a curved 6.55-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. We’re expecting the Snapdragon 865 chipset under the hood with 8/12GB RAM and 128/256GB storage.
