Redmi Note 9T stars in hands-on preview day before announcement

While we’re patiently expecting the Redmi Note 9T to debut tomorrow Dutch concept creator and YouTuber Jermaine Smit aka Concept Creator went ahead and unboxed the device and gave us his first impressions. Sadly, the video got taken down so we only have a few screenshots.

Right off the bat the device is nearly identical to the China-exclusive Redmi Note 9 5G in design and internals alike. It’s powered by the 5G ready Mediatek Dimensity 800U chipset and comes with a 5,000mAh battery.

We have a circular camera cutout at the rear with a 48MP primary shooter and two 2MP snappers for macro shots and depth data.

The box contents include the phone, manuals, a 22.5W charging brick (even though the phone only supports 18W speeds) and a USB-C cable.

Apart from the last letter, it differs nothing else from the Ryzen 3000 U processors intended for notebooks , AMD cites the reason that the correspondingly equipped Chromebooks are easier to find.

At least four APUs from AMD’s Chromebook series make it into the Acer Chromebook Spin 514.

In addition, there will probably be other, weaker CPUs as options. Acer mentions a Ryzen 3 and an Athlon Silver in a footnote, referring to the Zen-based Ryzen 3 3250 C and Athlon Silver 3000 C indicates with only two cores and less graphics power (3 and 2 Execution units). 1big-dock:-a-quick-test-of-lacie's-16-tb-hard-drive-with-thunderbolt-dock

1big Dock: A quick test of LaCie's 16 TB hard drive with Thunderbolt dock

LaCie sells an external hard drive with an integrated Thunderbolt dock under the name “1big Dock”, which supports Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type A), DisplayPort 1.4 as well as an SD and a CF Card slot offers five additional interfaces. The 1big Dock is available in a version with magnetic hard drives up to 16 TByte and a Pro version with SSDs up to 4 TByte. We have the 16 -TByte variant tested.

With the enclosed Thunderbolt 3 cable (78 cm) you connect the external hard drive to a Windows PC or Mac. The 84 – Watt power supply can also be used by a MacBook Charge with electricity up to 70 watts. LaCie also includes a USB-3 adapter from USB-C to USB-A so that the 1big Dock can also be used on computers without a Thunderbolt port.

The internal 16 – Terabyte hard drive of the LaCie 1big Dock Enterprise-class Seagate IronWolf Pro in our test device achieved write rates of 182 Mbytes / s and read rates of around 230 Mbytes / s how to get it from a 3.5 “drive with 850 tours.

However, a USB 3.1 Gen 2 SSD from OWC on the front USB-A socket turned out to be much faster: it managed to write over 850 MByte / s and while reading still 762 MByte / s. That is almost as much as the SSD achieves at best.

In the SD card slot next to it we were able to use a UHS – II card from Toshiba 180 Shovel writing MByte / s and reading 215 MByte / s. A G-Drive with almost maximum speed or a 5K monitor from LG could be used at the Thunderbolt 3 output in series operation.

1big Dock (Thunderbolt 3 hard drive) Manufacturer LaCie Capacity 16 TByte free interfaces 1 × Thunderbolt 3, 1 × USB-A 3.1 Gen 2, 1 × DisplayPort 4K @ 60 Hz, SD card ( UHS-II), Compact Flash Weight without power supply 1.8 kg Dimensions 215 × 117 × 56 mm Colour Black and dark gray System requirements macOS from 10. 14 Mojave, Windows from , Thunderbolt 3 Price (manufacturer) 749 € Displayport and quiet fan We were able to connect a 4K monitor to the display port (1.4) on the back with 60 operate Hertz refresh rate. In addition, there is a CompactFlash slot, a Kensington lock, a status and an access LED in blue and a sleep button. The latter only sent the included hard disk to sleep, the interfaces remained active. The thermally controlled fan could hardly be heard (0, 17 Sone). Together with the robust access noises, we only measured 0, 25 Sone.

If you want to use your ports on a Mac or a Windows PC sparingly and need a large external hard drive, you can use the 1big Dock, as there are a few additional features – brings interfaces.

Best laptop for kids 2021: Affordable and robust computers to help them learn

(Pocket-lint) – Now more than ever, if your child needs to do school work at home, or watch TV on a screen that doesn’t take up the main family TV, you might be considering whether to buy them a laptop pretty soon.

  • Best tablet for kids: Hardy devices for young people to enjoy

For most kids (and parents) a laptop makes a lot of sense in this context. Letting them work or play whether they’re at the kitchen table or at school means that they’re able to use their computer to the full. So, we’ve taken a look at the laptops currently on the market to whittle them down to a list of the best ones for you to consider for your child.

Our priorities for this list are durability, affordability and performance — so you won’t find any high-end Macbooks or ultrabooks here. These aren’t intended as powerhouses, but rather as useful machines for their young users.

Our guide to the best kids’ laptops to buy today

HP

HP Stream 11

  • View offer on HP Store (sponsored link)

Our top Windows 10 laptop for kids and also one of the best cheap laptops full stop. What would be a little slow for an adult using a laptop all day could be just about perfect for a kid learning the ropes. A

child is unlikely to be using their laptop for more than a couple of hours at a time (unless you’re letting them!). HP’s Stream 11 is, therefore, a great bet for a kid that needs a small laptop to get started with. You don’t get much storage or much power, but it’s extremely affordable.

Lenovo

Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3

squirrel_widget_333717

This convertible Chromebook is one of the best laptops in its class and the device will adapt to pretty much every scenario.

It’s not a powerhouse of course, with Intel Celeron, 64GB of storage and 4GB of memory but it really does offer a lot for the price point.

Pocket-lint

Acer Chromebook 314

squirrel_widget_334797

Acer’s 14-inch Chromebook has a solid list of specs for the outlay, including the Intel Celeron N4000, 4GB RAM, 32GB of storage (like other Chromebooks you’ll need to take advantage of cloud storage). There are also two USB-C ports.

You should be able to get a full day of battery life from it, while the HD display works well in all lighting conditions.

Asus

Asus Chromebook C223

squirrel_widget_334757

Completing a hat-trick for Asus, it’s another Chromebook, but this time an extremely dinky one. If your kid wants a bit of a smaller machine, this could be the answer. Despite its 11.6-inch size, it’s still got a decent keyboard squeezed in, and being small makes it super portable.

It’s not got much power under the hood, but it’s also almost jaw-droppingly inexpensive, and in the computing world you do generally have to pay for performance.

With Chrome’s system prioritising cloud storage, if you’ve got a decent internet connection to work with, your kid should be able to do most things they’ll need to on this tiny little number.

Surface Go 2

squirrel_widget_238273

The 10.5-inch Surface Go 2 is a super-portable machine designed for gettings bits and pieces done when on the go – emailing, taking notes in a class, watching a bit of Netflix on the way home – rather than trying to be an all-powerful Surface product.

While the basic cost matches the 2-in-1’s small-scale you need to add a Type Cover and Surface Pen that cost extra.

jbl-tour-is-a-new-range-of-wireless-noise-cancelling-headphones

JBL Tour is a new range of wireless noise-cancelling headphones

JBL always has plenty of products launching around CES time and we’ve got another brand new series of wireless noise-cancelling headphones to bring you, on top of the recent additions to its Live range.

The new Tour series has, in JBL’s own words, been “designed for business professionals” and consists of two models, the JBL Tour One and JBL Tour Pro+. The former are wireless, noise-cancelling headphones, while the latter take the form of true wireless earbuds, both of which can access virtual voice assistants from Amazon and Google.

The Tour One use 40mm drivers and feature JBL’s True Adaptive Noise Cancelling technology, which monitors your environment in real-time and alters the level of noie-cancelling automatically. You’ve also got Adaptive Ambient Aware and TalkThru features plus a four-mic array for taking phone calls.

Battery life is 25 hours with Bluetooth and noise-cancelling switched on and around 50 hours using just Bluetooth. Thanks to Speed Charging, a quick 10 minute stint at the power socket (the headphones charge via USB-C) should be enough for two hours of playback.

One particularly interesting feature is JBL’s new Smart Audio Mode, which allows you to optimise the Bluetooth connection for normal listening, switch up the quality in “music mode” or switch to the low latency “video mode” to get your picture and sound in perfect sync ( although we’re not sure why you can’t watch videos and listen in the best quality). You can flick between the different settings using a dedicated Smart Switch on the headphones.

The JBL Tour Pro+ wireless earbuds also feature Adaptive Noise Cancelling and use 6.8mm drivers. They boast around six hours battery life per charge with Bluetooth and noise-cancelling both switched on, and around eight hours using just Bluetooth. A Speed Charge of ten minutes should be good for one hour of playback.

These AirPods rivals are also IPX4 sweatproof and include a fit customization feature which can be accessed through the JBL Headphones app to help ensure you get the best fit possible.

Keen to get your hands on a pair? You’ve got quite a wait, as the JBL Tour series only launches in May 2021, with the JBL Tour One set to cost £279.99 (€299, $299.95) and the JBL Tour Pro+ priced at £179.99 (€199, $199.95).
