In future, all AMD and Intel processors for Windows PCs (and notebooks) will incorporate the Microsoft controller “Pluton”, which anchors a so-called Root of Trust with a cryptographic Microsoft key directly in the CPU. After Microsoft announced the Pluton project, AMD and Intel published their own information on it.
Both manufacturers emphasize that they already provide hardware security functions, such as firmware TPMs (fTPM), with their respective integrated security controllers AMD Secure Processor (formerly Platform Security Processor / PSP) and Intel Converged Security and Management Engine (CSME). These should also remain available in the future.
Intel emphasizes that Pluton will be integrated into future processors as an addition and “as a choice”. In addition, Intel names the numerous in-house protective measures such as Boot Guard, BIOS Guard and Hardware Shield and refers to the innovations of CSME . 0, the Tiger Lake has started and among other things enables CET.
AMD Zen processors will in future get Microsoft Pluton in addition to AMD Secure Processor.

AMD in turn reports that it was involved in the development of Pluton and that the predecessor has been working since 2013 built into their own silicon, namely in the processor for the Xbox One.

A start-up from the USA has brought a new tool onto the market that is supposed to make video conferences more “fun” and more professional at the same time. The software called mmhmm has just been released for macOS. A beta version for Windows is planned, but not yet available. Behind mmhmm is Phil Libin, co-founder of the popular note-taking app Evernote.
Temporarily stored for better videos The application is a virtual webcam – it slides between iSight (or an externally connected camera) and the operating system. Zoom, Google Meet, GoToMeeting and Facebook Messenger are currently supported – each via their app. Furthermore, services such as Skype, Slack or Discord can be used via their web application. Microsoft Teams only worked via the web in between, but can now also be used in the app again. Furthermore, streaming platforms such as YouTube can be used and presentations can also be recorded directly in mmhmm.
backgrounds and a “Star Wars” hologram The most important function of the app is an intelligent green screen: If you sit in front of a monochrome wall, you can place any background. Mmhmm offers a wide selection here, which also includes animations.
For example, you can build your own news program: Not only the virtual background but also a “news display” with slides is integrated behind the conference participant. The presenter can be displayed in different colors, moved on the screen or optionally acts like a “Star Wars” hologram. Videos and presentations can be run directly in mmhmm.
Against “webcam fatigue” Libin’s theory in all of this is that video conferencing will not go away, but that it should be made more comfortable in order not to suffer from “webcam fatigue”. “We sometimes spend more time in these virtual rooms than in real rooms – so it is logical that one thinks about how to decorate or individualize them,” he recently told the dpa .
mmhmm can be used free of charge in basic functions – at least 60 minutes a day. If you want the “Premium Tools” package, you pay 100 US dollars per year or 10 dollars per month. You can test it for free for seven days.
Google’s developers have in the current Chrome edition 87. 0. 4280.66 all in all 33 Security gaps closed. The version is available for Linux, macOS and Windows.
Ten of the vulnerabilities have the threat level ” high “classified. In order not to reveal too many details to potential attackers, Google hardly provides any details in a warning message.
Break through the firewall The information available reads in such a way that attackers could in some cases execute malicious code on victims’ computers. More details are known about the NAT slipstreaming gap (CVE – 2020 – 16022) .
In a blog post, security researcher Samy Kamkar writes that remote attackers could bypass NAT and firewall settings. Then access to any TCP / UDP services should be possible. A victim would only have to visit a website prepared by an attacker.
In addition to security, the Chrome developers have also tweaked the performance, among other things. The web browser normally updates itself automatically under Windows, for example. To check the current version and to initiate an update, all you have to do is click the menu items “Help” “About Google Chrome”.
As part of the new version 18 Parallels is expanding its Remote Application Server (RAS) with some functions. The software is aimed at companies that want to provide virtualized applications. These run either on a local server or in the cloud.
The main innovation is the integration of the Windows Virtual Desktop, a fully virtualized Windows environment along with applications that reside entirely in the Azure cloud. Now the virtual systems, the programs running there and their users can be managed centrally from the RAS console. The latter should also be used to automate routine tasks if desired.
The administration environment can also be used to provide new applications and desktops in Microsoft’s Azure Windows. Furthermore, Parallels will in future offer automatic scaling of the virtual RAS environment, regardless of whether it is running on premises or in Azure.
Management of user profiles RAS 18 can also handle Microsoft’s FSLogix profile containers. They are responsible for the administration of the user profiles in virtual environments and should reduce latencies and the risk of damaged professionals compared to the previously used User Profile Disks (UPD) Experience (UX) evaluator. With it, those responsible should be able to measure how well users can work with the virtual environment. First and foremost, the tool pays attention to delays between user input and the system’s responses.
Another new feature is the web portal for administrators, the RAS -Helpdesk tool replaced. It can be used on the desktop or smartphone to remotely deploy and configure RAS components and then monitor them.
Readers can find details on all new functions in the announcement of the release. RAS 18 appears as commercial software, the prices depend on the length of the contract and are calculated from the number of simultaneous users. A free trial version is also available.
As planned, the Tails developers released a new version of their live operating system yesterday, Tuesday. Tails 4. 12 does not include any fundamentally new features, but rather focuses on minor corrections and additions to the existing ones Features. Above all, however, it contains important security updates that, among other things, secure the Tor Browser used by default against a critical vulnerability. The developers therefore advise to carry out an update as soon as possible.

Among other things, newly added buttons should facilitate the restart after creating a persistent memory area. In future, only the root user will be allowed to access the root directory in the persistent memory. Problems with the available language variants have also been eliminated. Tails 4. 13: Update and installation If you already use Tails from a USB stick, you can ab Version 4.2 upwards perform an automatic upgrade. How to perform a manual upgrade is explained in a post on the Tails website. Tails developers provide instructions for reinstallation for Linux, macOS and Windows. Caution: According to the release notes, existing persistent storage (and thus also the data stored there) will be lost if you perform a new installation instead of an upgrade.

Chrome 87 is here and comes with improved resource management and an expanded range of functions in the address line. For Apple’s new ARM Macs there is a native version, which initially presents difficulties.
The new version of Chrome will be the last for this one Be year. And according to Google, it brings with it the biggest performance improvement in years. This is mainly due to the throttling tab. Tab overview and new address line functions To get the To facilitate the recently introduced tab overview, Google is introducing a tab search. The list of all open tabs from all windows is initially available for Chromebooks, other systems are to follow.
Google calls the address line “Omnibox” because it can do so much. Apart from entering a page and searching, it is now possible to go to Google Actions on the desktop. If you enter “change password” for example, you get to the corresponding settings. The “delete search history” also works.
There will soon be a tab page in which “Cards” are saved. These are recently visited and similar pages. This should make it easier to find content again. “Cooking” and “Shopping” are already being tested. “Entertainment” is to follow in the coming year. Currently, Google is also testing a collection function called Keen, which is strongly reminiscent of Pinterest.
Problems with new Macs The new one A version of Chrome specially adapted for ARM Macs carries a high risk of crashing. Google itself cites a workaround to return to the Intel version. The bug obviously has to do with the Bluetooth support, users should try to share it on their M1 Macs.
In addition to support for Radeon RX 6800 series graphics cards, the drivers include official support for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands.
AMD has released new drivers for its graphics cards and APUs. Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20. .) 2 drivers are available for Windows 7 and 10 operating systems and support all graphics cards and APUs based on the company’s GCN and RDNA architectures.

Microsoft has partnered with AMD, Intel and Qualcomm on the technology, and Pluto will be integrated into future processors from each manufacturer.
Information security is always a burning issue in information technology. One of the essential pieces of computer security is the TPM or Trusted Platform Module, which is implemented either on a separate chip or as a software-based firmware version. Because of their key role, attackers have also become increasingly focused on hacking the TPM in their attacks.
Now Microsoft has announced the introduction of a new solution to replace TPM, the Microsoft Pluton security processor. The Pluto security processor is designed to integrate directly inside the processor, and Microsoft has partnered with AMD, Intel and Qualcomm to do so. According to the company, it would be impossible to delete data stored on Pluto even if the attacker had full physical access to the computer. The Secure Hardware Cryptography Key (SHACK) technology included with Pluto ensures that the keys stored in the security processor are never disclosed outside the protected devices or even to Pluto’s own firmware.
According to Microsoft, Pluto is not intended to replace internal security processors, but to become a new layer between it and the operating system. Its exploitation will also be launched directly, as the TPM will initially be emulated on Pluto. This will allow security applications and solutions based on TPM technology to run automatically on Pluto. Microsoft intends to provide the necessary firmware updates to Pluto directly through Windows Update, so that any third-party updates may not affect user security.
However, we cannot talk about a completely new technology. Microsoft baked the first version of Pluto into AMD’s semi-custom system circuitry on Xbox One consoles. In addition, Pluto has been used in Azure Sphere in the past. However, it is not clear from the article when Plutonium-powered processors or system circuits would be allowed on the market.
Cinebench is a test program for processors based on Maxon’s Cinema 4D animation application.
Maxon, which specializes in 3D applications, is perhaps best known for its Cinebench test application. A new version R 23 of Cinebench, now based on Cinema 4D, has now been released.
Maxon’s Cinema 4D R 23 is the first Arm-native 3D animation application for macOS. Similarly, perhaps the most prominent innovation in Cinebench R 23 is support for Apple’s new M1 system chip and MacOS for the Arm architecture.
In addition, the R 23 publication uses updated compilers and is reported to provide more consistent and accurate results, especially on high – performance systems. The single-core version of the test program has now been brought into standard test scenarios, when previously it had to be manually turned on via the Advanced benchmark option. The results of the new version are not compatible with previous Cinebench versions.
The free test app can be downloaded from the Maxon website and Apple and Microsoft app stores. It requires at least Windows 10 or macOS 10. 13 .6 64 – bit processor supporting the SSE3 instruction set.
Big Chungus is one of the most interestingly named PC cases we have seen in a long time. In a market where a series of letters and numbers often make PC cases sound more like a robot from a sci-fi movie rather than somewhere to house your expensive hardware, having an actual name is refreshing. ‘Big Chungus’ was originally a viral meme in case you were wondering, but does this huge show case live up to its name and can it rival some of the other similarly priced open-air display chassis the market has to offer? We find out today.

The case we are looking at today is the Kolink Big Chungus Unit Edition, on the box it is labelled as “V2” since it is an updated version of the original Big Chungus that released earlier this year. Kolink claims that the V2 Unit Edition improves on the original as it includes five 120mm dual Ring ARGB PWM fans (single ring fans in the original), as well as a black, anodised aluminium stand that comes pre-installed to the base of the cassis, the original had a red anodised aluminium stand that the user self-assembled. Other than that, the two look almost identical.
When Big Chungus arrives, you instantly notice the sheer size of the case, the box is almost a two-man job to carry, it is huge. Once out of the box and stood on the desk, the Big Chungus lives up to its name as it stands 668mm tall and 336mm wide. For the system build, I immediately thought about cramming in a load of custom water cooling to show off what this case is capable of since it is marketed as a showpiece chassis after all.

However, when you start to look at the case in more detail it seems as though there are some shortcomings with the design. Because of its angular design, the case is tall at its highest point but the problem is the depth of the case from front to rear and the useable space it provides. The case isn’t deep enough to allow the installation of a regular pump/res combo upfront so building custom water cooling inside the Big Chungus may not be as easy as we would expect.
Building a system inside the case also throws up some unexpected issues and limitations and makes the installation process frustrating and less enjoyable. There are several fundamental issues with the case such as pre-installed motherboard standoffs that are not removable and a micro-ATX pre-installed standoff that could potentially cause a short with ATX/E-ATX motherboard installations and possible component damage.
Other issues during installation included the LED strips at the base interfering with power supply installation, power supply screws not lining up easily and the power supply blocks half of the LED strip once installed. Cable management on the rear of the motherboard tray is virtually non-existent, there are cable pass-through holes but no cable management channels, tie-down points, eyelets or straps to neaten up cable installation which is annoying since you can see all the untidy cables through the glass panel.
Thermal Performance Testing
As with every KitGuru case review, thermal performance is important, therefore we shall measure this by running a series of tests to record CPU and GPU temperatures under load.
To simulate thermal performance under load, we run Aida64 stress tests, stressing CPU, FPU, Cache and GPU for 20 minutes with the case in various configurations. With this data, we can compare how each scenario affects thermal performance.
We will compare the system’s thermal capabilities with a liquid-cooled solution for the CPU, using a Silverstone IceGem 240P, 240mm AIO and the graphics card stock cooling solution.
During thermal performance testing, only stock case fans will be used unless otherwise specified. All fans and pumps (where applicable) will be set to their standard fan curve profile as controlled by the motherboard.
All temperature measurements are presented as Deltas – the ambient temperature has been deducted from the CPU/GPU temperature giving us a Delta.
The following configurations are used to test the effect they have on thermal performance:

Note: 240mm AIO cooler was installed in the roof of the case with fans fitted in a push configuration exhausting air out of the case.
Thermal Performance Overview:
Because the Big Chungus is technically an open-air chassis, thermal performance is relatively unaffected by changing the configuration of the case such as removing side or front panels.
Removing the side panel or front panel of an airflow restrictive case usually has a noticeable positive effect on GPU and CPU temperature, but with the Big Chungus, we only recorded a minimal change in the CPU and GPU temperature when removing panels as expected from an open-air chassis.
We omitted any noise level testing from this review as the open layout of the chassis means that noise levels are not affected by changing the case configuration as they would be in more traditional PC cases.
Closing Thoughts
There is no doubt that Big Chungus V2 Unit Edition is a unique looking chassis, however, it is extremely frustrating to work with. During the build process, I was so discouraged by the issues that kept occurring I almost gave up on the build completely. There are so many small niggling issues with the Big Chungus and the build quality isn’t of a high enough standard to warrant the premium £220 price tag the case has been given.
The most annoying and possibly dangerous flaw with the case is the pre-installed motherboard standoffs. This wouldn’t normally be such an issue if the standoffs could be easily removed, but in the Big Chungus the motherboard standoffs are pressed into the steel tray and include a MATX standoff that could potentially contact a component on the rear of an ATX or E-ATX motherboard, short out a circuit and cause damage to hardware.
Another annoying oversight in the design of the Big Chungus is the complete lack of cable management on the rear of the motherboard tray. There are plenty of cable cut-outs in the right places which is great, however, there are no cable channels, eyelets, straps or points to fasten cables down anywhere which is a big disappointment since the case is equipped with glass side panels so the untidy cable management can be seen. Much cheaper cases with solid side panels have better cable management options than this.
Installing the power supply was also problematic with the Big Chungus Unit Edition, the pre-installed LED strips on the base of the case interfered with installation and once the PSU was in position, the screw holes didn’t line up correctly and the power supply blocked off half of the LED strips so the lighting effect glow was only visible from below the front of the case.
The list of issues continues, front panel motherboard connections are multicoloured and look unsightly, AIO installation at the top of the case is very tight, there isn’t much space at the front of the case for a pump/res combo, LED strip power cables are too short, front panel connectivity is sparse for this price range, glass panels are tricky to re-install due to poor alignment and so on.
One thing that the Big Chungus V2 Unit Edition does have in its favour is the appearance, there is no other case you can buy that looks like the Big Chungus V2 Unit Edition. You also get five pre-installed ARGB fans, two ARGB LED strips and an RGB/Fan hub, although this would be expected from a case that costs in excess of £200.
So if you are a fan of the Big Chungus meme and want a PC case that resembles a fat rabbit then this might be the case for you, just make sure you cut out that dodgy MATX motherboard standoff and try not to get too stressed out while building a system inside as I did, maybe play some calming music to keep relaxed.

Duke Nukem 3D, Quake and Doom: Do these names evoke nostalgic feelings? Many people enjoy playing these old DOS games again years later. This can be done in a computer museum, via an emulator or by means of an old system. Among (older) tweakers we see increasing interest in the latter or even in rebuilding a retro PC. With old hardware, but supplemented with handy accessories that make everything a lot more practical.
More retro Those who not only want to play old DOS games again, but also games from the home computer era, can choose from a wide range of products. Well-known names are the DE 10 Nano FPGA and RetroPie based on a Raspberry Pi.
There are countless possibilities to go in time. The easiest way is an emulator or virtual machine. Via Dosbox you can easily play old DOS games again; a site like GoG.com, or Good Old Games, has grown with it. You can also install an old Windows version by means of virtualization. In addition, the web is nowadays powerful enough to emulate a lot of software online. For most people that will be enough, but someone else will miss something. Think of certain hacks or tweaks that made it more fun, extensions and mods or the sound of a specific sound card, especially in games with AdLib sound. Emulation is close, but not the same.
An advantage of a real computer is that old hardware and peripherals just run on it. This is often not the case on modern computers, either because the desired software is not available for modern operating systems or because the connections and adapters are simply missing. For example, if you want to read old 5, 25 ”floppies, you really need an old disk drive and corresponding computer. The same goes for old IDE hard drives, zip drives, and software that only works with an old Windows version. Also old DOS and Windows games often no longer work under Windows 10, at least not without tools.
In this article we will discuss what to look out for if you want to build or buy a retro PC, the do’s and don’ts as well as new possibilities and modern tools that make this a lot easier.
From 26. November 1920 Aldi Süd sells the entry-level notebook Akoya E 15308 For 250 Euro. The price requires compromises in the equipment, which is better than other devices in this class.
The heart of the Akoya E 15308 forms the AMD processor 3020 e (without Ryzen or Athlon add-on) with two Zen cores (1.2-2.6 GHz) and a Radeon Vega graphics unit with 192 Shader units. The Thermal Design Power (TDP) is kept very low at 6 watts, but the processor does not use simultaneous multithreading (SMT), so it can only process two threads. Manufacturer Medion pairs the 2400 e-CPU with 4 GByte DDR4 – 2400-R.A.M. Although the memory interface can handle dual-channel RAM, Medion soldered the RAM in single-channel.
On a 71 GByte SSD is Windows 10 Home in the S -Mode pre-installed that allows the installation of apps from Microsoft’s Windows Store. Another SATA 6G data carrier can be installed in a 2.5-inch slot. The 15, 6 inch IPS display represents 1920 × 1080 pixels – atypical in this price range.
