A Canon RF 50mm F1.4 lens could arrive in the next few years
Source: HW Upgrade added 06th Nov 2020We are still far from the presentation, at least according to the classic timing between the patent registration and the official announcement, but one of the lenses that we will see in the future could be a Canon RF mm F1.4 . In these hours some patents have emerged that would concern this model with different optical designs that could prefigure a definitive product.
From the patent to the final product
As always, it is not certain that something patented is actually produced or product as shown in the technical papers. This however means that in the future a Canon RF 50 mm F1.4 could be part of lens series for RF mirrorless camera system .
This is because a 50 mm f / 1.4 would fit between the cheap RF 50 mm F1.8 STM (price of 239, 99 euro) presented recently and the expensive RF 50 mm F1.2L USM (price of 2629 euro). It would then be a great classic for those interested in portrait photography with, potentially, an interesting bokeh effect as well as being able to work in low light.
In patents filed in Japan you can see how the optical design foresees how the last lens is very close to the bayonet and therefore to the sensor. In general these models aim to develop fast and reliable focusing systems despite the large aperture required for the Canon RF 50 mm F1.4 .
Among the three models under study the focal length varies between 48, 47 mm, 48, 49 mm and 51, 50 mm also affecting the viewing angle (from 24, 04 ° a 22, 79 °). The length of the lenses will also vary and will be between 116, 56 mm and 95, 19 mm. In general it seems that the manufacturer has sought the best compromise to make a Canon RF 50 mm F1.4 having a light lens system and limiting the number of elements. This would reduce overall dimensions and improve AF speed.
As mentioned, we do not know for sure when this model could debut or what its definitive characteristics will be. Interestingly, there is not even a 50 mm f / 1.4 among the objectives rumored for a debut in the 2021. This could mean that to actually see it on the market we may have to wait at least 2022 (if not later).
