Since the 1980s, Illustrator has become one of the leading drawing programs for Windows and macOS. So far, Adobe has had less luck on mobile platforms. That should now change with Illustrator for iPad.

The app is based on the model and is similar to the iPad -Version of Photoshop CC that has been available for a year. On the left it shows a toolbar including a color selector, on the right users have access to levels, graphic properties, Boolean operations and other dialogs. A context menu shows further options. For example, graphics can be mirrored and multiplied radially.

Illustrator provides tools for radial pattern repetition.

Vector drawing in real time Illustrator for iPad supports the Apple Pencil and translates drawings with the pen in real time into Bézier curves as possible few anchor points. A smoothing controller further simplifies the graphic if desired. Anchor points can be moved along the curve with the Apple Pencil without changing the graphic. Individual points can be deleted via the context menu in order to manually simplify a curve.

The Shape Builder provides Boolean operations.

That too Text tool offers a number of context options. Horizontal swiping movements change, for example, the font size or the spacing. Any Adobe fonts can be integrated using the palette on the right. You can also choose other fonts if you have a license for them. The text can be run along curves using drag & drop. If you change the path, the font adapts dynamically. The color picker shows both a color wheel and CMYK slider. The selected colors can be used as radial and linear gradients on graphics.

All Adobe fonts are available via the Creative Cloud, including the integrate the desktop apps.

Integration into Creative C
