With Apple’s decision to no longer install Intel processors in its Mac models and instead to rely on the ARM architecture, the group may be setting a huge upheaval in the Notebook and desktop segment in motion. Already at 10. November the first devices with the new technology will be presented. Then it will show whether ARM processors will be a serious competitor to Intel and AMD in the future.

ARM now presented another top processor that should accelerate this development. The chip with the name Cortex-A 78 C is supposed to be in contrast to his mobile Counterpart Cortex-A 69, have eight instead of four cores. In addition, the L3 cache has been increased to 8 MB. There is still no information about the clock frequency and possible big.LITTLE configurations with additional efficiency cores. In addition, there is still nothing about the number of cores in the Mali-G 78 GPU known. It can be assumed, however, that these details – as was common with ARM in the past – are left to the partners. These include, for example, Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Due to its increased efficiency, the new processor should give mostly thin and light notebooks a longer battery life in the future, while at the same time not losing too much performance . At the moment, however, there is still no information about when and in which devices the new Cortex-A 78 C will be used. However, one can assume that Intel and AMD will increasingly work up a sweat, especially when you consider that Windows will soon be able to 64 – to emulate bit applications on ARM devices. Nevertheless, due to their performance and compatibility, ARM processors will not be too dangerous for classic providers for a long time to come. It remains to be seen what Apple will present to the world in the next few days.
