Source: Pure PC added 24th Nov 2020We are already after the premiere of the new generation consoles, i.e. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S, and therefore more and more news about how they work individual games. We recently had the opportunity to see how they are doing in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, where the PS5 is unexpectedly better than the Xbox Series X. Another hot title this fall is definitely Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which was released by reviewed us last week. The game was taken under the microscope by the Digital Foundry team from the British Eurogamer website. What conclusions did he come to? It turns out that, depending on the scenario, the PS5 console is doing better and the Xbox Series X is doing better.
Digital Foundry: Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War runs smoother on PlayStation 5 in FPS mode 120, while the Xbox Series X console performs better in a scenario with ray tracing enabled.
Call of Duty Black Ops review : Cold War. Is it still CoD?
The conclusions of the Digital Foundry team at Eurogamer are clear. The analysis shows that in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War PlayStation 5 is doing better than the Xbox Series X in 120 FPS, when the visual setting is “cut” in favor of a higher number of frames per second. The resolution in the game is then 1080 p. The differences often exceed even 10 FPS at the most demanding moments. The graphics on both consoles are comparable in the title of Raven Software and Treyarch. It is possible that updating the game will slightly improve performance in this mode on the Xbox Series X.

However, when performance is more dependent on the graphics chip, The Xbox Series X shows claws, which is not particularly surprising. Speech, as you can guess, about the game during which the ray tracing option was activated. In Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War ray tracing was used to generate realistic looking shadows (also for ambient occlusion on PC). In this mode, the Xbox Series X keeps a very solid 60 FPS, while on PS5 there are occasional drops to even 40 FPS. The game on both consoles runs in dynamic 4K resolution (the least 1800 p). And how is the Xbox Series S version? In dynamic 1440 p (least 1200 p) usually holds relatively constant 60 frames per second with occasional drops to 50 fps The graphics in Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War on the Xbox Series S are worse, however: less detailed surroundings or no ray traced shadows.
