Canon has presented a new sensor in the APS-H format with a resolution of 250 MPixel designed for non-consumer use but for products dedicated to industry ranging from microscopes to pixel analysis of displays in production. ??

Canon announced a new sensor with a resolution of 250 MPixel in the format APS-H (larger than APS-C and smaller than full-frame). This is not a solution intended for commercial cameras but for other types of products always in the field of imaging .

Sensor dimensions APS-H are equal to 29, 4 x 18, 9 mm with pixel with dimensions of 1.5 μm and will be available in both color and monochrome versions to suit various needs. Some of the purposes thought by Canon for this new product are the inspection of display panels, video production, digital archiving, video surveillance and use in microscopes.

You can thus obtain detailed images, thanks to the resolution of 125 MPixel or adopt digital zoom to reach the areas interested for analysis. To be able to manage all the data, the signal reading speed touches 1, 25 billions of pixels / s thus avoiding delays in the response (we are talking about about 5 fps a bit or 3.1 fps a 12 bit).

Furthermore, if for the customer’s needs it is not it is necessary to exploit the entire sensor area it is possible to reach higher transmission speeds: 8K to 24 fps , 4K a 30 fps and FHD a 60 fps, all at 10 bit. In the demonstration video released by Canon it is possible to see some of the applications described above as an enlargement of details (butterfly wings) or shooting of large areas of landscape showing the potential of this new high resolution sensor.
