CES 2021: TCL halves the backlight thickness of its new OD Zero Mini-LED panels
Source: Geeknetic added 11th Jan 2021This 2011 we will see quite a few televisions with miniLED panels on the market, we have already seen LG show their proposals, and now TCL has shown its new generation of Mini LED OD Zero panels, a type of panel that reduces to a minimum the diffusion layer between the mini LED panel and the screen itself, achieving brighter, better lighting and contrast control, and thinner panels.
To do this, the lenses that carry the small LED backlight have been reduced to a thickness of just 151 um and increased the number from minileds to tens of thousands, that way the LCD panel is illuminated from much smaller areas that do not need large lenses for light diffusion,
With this OD Zero Mini Led technology the thickness of the backlight is reduced by 50%
Naturally, by reducing these lenses, the distance between the backlight system and the panel, the thickness of the screen is much less, specifically, only the backlight system is a 50% finest.
Another advantage of this system is that the small areas of illumination allow a much more precise control of brightness, which increases contrast and enables higher quality HDR content to be played. TCL ensures that these panels have thousands of zones of dynamic contrast.
