The pre-order campaigns for the Playstation 5 game console were an economic success for Sony. Jim Ryan, Sony’s head of gaming, revealed that the PS5 sold as often in the United States within the first 12 hours as the PS4 sold within the first 12 weeks.

“The demand, as indicated by the pre-order level, is very, very considerable,” Ryan said in an interview with the news agency Reuters . The pre-order phases were chaotic due to limited contingents – interested parties who could not pre-order a Playstation 5 will no longer receive a console until the market launch on 19. November 2020.

So-called “scalpers” worsen the situation: They offer PS5 consoles with pre-order confirmations at inflated prices on sales platforms such as Ebay. Corresponding processes are often automated by means of bots – German retailers therefore canceled multiple orders with the same name, for example.
