Introduction

We just had a new CORSAIR keyboard launch a couple of weeks ago, and the company did introduce a few new things with the flagship K100 keyboard late last year, including a standard bottom row of keycaps and stock PBT doubleshot keycaps that necessitated a new mold. Now, anyone with an inkling of how much a keycap set mold costs will tell you that it makes sense to amortize that cost in the form of new products using the same keycap design. Add to this train of thought CORSAIR’s AXON hyper-processing technology, also introduced with the K100, and the likelihood of seeing a revamp of their keyboard lineup sooner rather than later suddenly makes sense. The K65 RGB Mini was a pleasant surprise in the new-to-CORSAIR form factor, however, and then the company gave some love to their membrane keyboard lineup with the K55 RGB PRO (XT). This trend continues with a TKL version of their most popular keyboard that launches today. Thanks again to CORSAIR for sending a review sample of the K70 RGB TKL CHAMPION SERIES keyboard to TechPowerUp!

What do you do when you run out of numbers in your keyboard numbering scheme? CORSAIR thought the answer is to add more verbiage instead. They have done so in the past with such unique descriptors as “STRAFE” or “Silent” and “RAPIDFIRE” for their then-exclusive MX Silent and MX Speed Cherry MX switches. With the all-new K70 RGB TKL, CORSAIR seems to have created a new sub-series called “CHAMPION,” which of course has to be all caps for that sweet SEO. I will henceforth just refer to it as the CORSAIR K70 TKL for the sake of convenience, and know right away that there is more than just a cut-down K70 keyboard here. Sure, they have had TKL keyboards before and continue to do so now, but this is their first smaller-than-full-size keyboard with the same design language as their higher-end aluminium-frame keyboards. Let’s explore all this and more in this review beginning with a look at the specifications below.
