Cyberpunk 2077, emergency meeting for CD Projekt: we talk about old-gen, refunds and multiplayer

CD Projekt RED returns to talk about the complicated launch of Cyberpunk 2077, clarifying some key points during a meeting. The executives of the Polish software house talked about the (disappointing) PS4 and Xbox One versions, addressed the issue of refunds and that of Cyberpunk’s multiplayer mode, which – probably – will be delayed.

As you know by now, the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was not one of the best.
For developers of CD Projekt RED are rather difficult days: if on the one hand there is the positive feedback of the players who are enjoying the RPG on PC and on next-gen consoles, where the title can guarantee performances far superior to its counterparts or ld-gen, on the other hand there is the user – extremely disappointed – of PS4 and Xbox One. The problems encountered on the “old” platforms, and those that emerged on the communication front, have led to a steady decline in the share price of CD Projekt, which a few hours ago reached a negative peak of – 46%.
As if that that wasn’t enough, most of the refunds requested by players, and already approved by the developers themselves, are denied by both Sony and Microsoft.
Cyberpunk 2077 : CD Projekt fa mea culpa, return to the old-gen question
Yesterday, the Warsaw team organized an emergency meeting to comment on the post-launch situation of Cyberpunk 2077. On the same occasion, a Q&A session was held in which the executives of CD Projekt RED answered some questions.
An official transcript of the meeting has been released via the company’s website, allowing us to read the latest statements from the developer Polish. We are therefore talking about the three delays inherent in the launch of the game, the problems related to the old-gen versions and the lost trust of the users.
“We underestimated the scale and complexity of the issues, ignored the signs that additional time was needed to perfect the game on base versions of last-gen consoles. It was the wrong approach and this goes against our corporate philosophy “, stated Adam Kiciński , CEO of the company.
Among the main errors committed by CD Projekt RED is to have shown the game especially in its PC version, the most stable among those released on the market. “This has resulted in a loss of player confidence and the reputation we have built for much of our life. “. Kiciński then spoke of the upcoming plans for recovery : “We are focused on the repair process of Cyberpunk on last-gen consoles. A new set of fixes will be released within the next seven days. Major updates are planned for January and February, along with some minor fixes “.

also spoke on the old-gen issue , responsible for publishing the game. Through the words of Nowakowski, CD Projekt RED admitted to having overlooked the P versions Cyberpunk S4 and Xbox One 2077: “As far as the third-party certification is concerned, the fault is definitely ours. I can only assume that (Sony and Microsoft) trusted that we would fix things at launch “.
Nowakowski also provided an explanation for what concerns the requests for reimbursement made by users and rejected, at least in most cases, from Sony and Microsoft. The executive explains that the two companies have their own refund policies and explains that “despite having seen several articles on a hypothetical agreement made especially for us, this is not true “. Both the PlayStation Network and the Microsoft Store can issue any refunds only if the related requests are made “within certain limits, usually related to the purchase time and use (of the game)” .
Cyberpunk 2077: multiplayer at risk? rebbe not arrive in the 2022
During the conference call of CD Projekt RED another rather delicate point was addressed: the multiplayer mode by Cyberpunk 2077.
Initially intended for a generic 2022, the multiplayer launch may be delayed ; it would be no surprise, since the studio will still be busy improving the game on the different compatible platforms.
The indiscretion comes from the session Q&A of the aforementioned meeting, in which it was asked if in two years we will actually be able to welcome the multiplayer sector. The answer comes from CEO Adam Kiciński: “To be honest, it’s too early to make an estimate ; we don’t know yet , and we are currently focused on improving Cyberpunk. We will talk about it early next year “. Nowakowski also confirms that the discussion on multiplayer will be addressed in 2021, probably in January.
We will continue to follow the matter, as we patiently await the next patches of Cyberpunk 2077 . We remind you that the game is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Google Stadia. It is also possible to play the RPG on the new PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, through the backward compatibility supported by the next-gen.
